This looks like being a bit of a saga right up into the Summer. So I thought I'd start a thread targeted specifically towards Rooney transfer talk

Paul Hirst saying he could be in China in a month (I thought Hirst was the go-to guy for Rooney's camp so I'm surprised more isn't being made from this, unless I'm mistaken)

He'll leave in the summer. After another big transfer window where we'll no doubt spend £150m+, Rooney will be even further down the pecking order. It's best for everyone if he moves on. We don't need him to be our "poster boy" anymore, we can attract other big names, and he's no longer good enough to start, so spending £250k-£300k a week on a bit-part player is just ridiculous. He still has a part left to play this season, though.

I cant see him leaving before the summer. Not when we have multiple competitions to worry about and need to be careful with the squad as it is. However Im not sure how much Rooney brings to the table anymore even as a squad option so it begs the question would we miss him if we did sell him?

I hope Rooney seeks a last big paycheck before his career ends. China league is a good option and will pay him well for the last few years of his career. He is no longer an option for us. Rushford is the next striker to take over once Zlatan is done @ Utd.

Does anyone actually think he'll go to China?
I hope he does as am pretty jealous of Chelsea getting £60m for Oscar. We might get £30m or so for Rooney which would be pretty sweet.....

He'll go to America, if he's to leave England. He has a young family and there's just no part of me that believes he'll want to make the move to China. I'm baffled people actually think he would go there.

I agree with this - whilst i'm sure he'd love the money, I can see him as LA Galaxy's next big signing.

I think he'll still be here in September. Can't see him going to China and can't see anyone else paying him anything close to his current wage.

No chance he'll go to China, America or Everton if he's going anywhere.

Strikes me as more of an Orlando City type of guy - if Kaka retires, that is.

What's happening with Beckham and that Miami FC?

I just don't think Rooney will fit in in 'Hollywood'...

My thoughts exactly. I just can't imagine Wooney wanting to live in China. Although I would love him to go there purely for the transfer fee, taking him off the wage bill, and to hear him try and speak Chinese (especially the last one).

If he has ambitions of being at the 2018 World Cup, he won't go China.

Just popped up on Guardian

"José Mourinho has said that Wayne Rooney will not be leaving for China and he will stay at Manchester United until the end of the season."
If that's a direct quote...

Edit - bit more:

Asked if the captain will still be at the club at the campaign’s close Mourinho said: “Yeah. We don’t have players in, we don’t have players out, we lost two players from the squad. You can say Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin did not play a lot, but the reality is they played some matches, and when they did, others didn’t, and when they played, others were rested. When Schneiderlin played, it meant [Paul] Pogba, [Michael] Carrick or [Ander] Herrera didn’t.

“You lose players sometimes it does not look important because they were not first-choice players, but in the end they’re important if someone is going to have a difficult season. I hope that’s us and we’re in the cup competitions.

I don't think he'd want to leave England, if Everton want him and can afford him I wouldn't be surprised to see him go there in the summer.

Everton are shite - so they probably would take him.

He wouldn't be living in China really if he went there. 90% of his time spent either in his Luxury Rooney Estate or flying out of the country somewhere. Stranger things have happened - especially if it was only for two years or something.

Don't see him going to China, unless the deal was truly insane (like 4 or 5 times his current salary). Don't see his family moving there and I don't see him being prepared to leave them behind, even just during the season.

America seems far more plausible, even if he'll get less money.

Reason given for not selling was the loss of two players already and how having them helped rest other players. Not that they were good players. Defo not off this month but Summer looks still possible.

Whatever it is there won't be smoke without fire, the agents must have had talks.

With the rumors that Jose is greenlighting the move I think there's something in this.

I'm not a Rooney fanboy by any strecth, but going to china midseason is too humiliating for him... unless it's his wish

If he gets us some China money, he'd go in my top ten United players.

He will be gone in the summer, likely to China (where else can afford his wage?)
He's gone, and we keep Mata to play his role (unless Spanish team comes calling) and recall Pereira to play Mata role in League Cup games.
Young will be sold too, and Damien, and Adnan.

You heard it here first. ;)

If the China talks are being leaked by his camp then it could be an attempt to get the club to activate the extension on his contract. Slightly mental, but wouldn't be entirely unsurprising.

His camp are daft if they think there's any chance, he's getting a new contract.

Our accountants wouldn't allow it.

Another year would cost us £15m or there abouts. You have to remember that if we get a transfer fee for him we will owe him a portion of that. If we add another year, how much would we really get for him? I'm not convinced it would offset the outlay.

I think he'll comfortably sign a new contract within the next 2 years.

Here. Van Gaal will come back and give him a 10-year deal.

But seriously, I think he will stay until the end of his contract and has a shot at 1-year extension after that. I doubt he wants to move anywhere, we are stuck with the contract that Moyes gave to him.
