They were a last minuted 98th minute penalty from losing in qualifying round to Häcken at the same stadium - who is about as good as Hammarby that we beat in Q2 in stockholm.
Madrid got blood lust when we got the red card and thought they would be invincible!

Even Hinata was knackered at the end and starting missing simple short passes. When Madrid got their red card we were already so tired it was hard to change the tide of the game. It was definitely a spirited performance that I am sure will bring much confidence going forward. Prayers for Jess Park recovering completely quickly as well!
I think Jess is probably fine and was only held out today due to strict concussion protocols. She evidently passed the on-field protocol on Sunday, and seemed completely fine after the match laughing and chatting with her teammates and coaches. And on the plus side, (1) we showed that we could win without her and (2) she can probably use the rest.
Bloody hell, what a game! What a team! Once again, our defending was top notch under a big amount of pressure. I was so worried we’d end up losing that undeservedly after the red card, but after about 60 mins or so the nerves settled a bit. Especially after the 2nd red of the game!
I’m honestly struggling to think of a worse refereeing performance I’ve seen, which given what the state of refereeing is in the WSL is quite shocking. Not just the red card (I couldn’t see it from where I was, but everyone seems to be in agreement that it wasn’t red), but the number of incorrect calls throughout the game was astounding. Soft free kicks, fouls given the wrong way, missed offsides, the lack of cards for bookable offences, and that one at the end where an Atlético player takes a wild swing at Sandberg and only gets a yellow. And nearly all of it benefitted Atlético. Hopefully the red for Dom can de appealed.
But despite all of that it’s 2/2 in the Champions League and we’re now in a good position to all but seal qualification to the knockout stages early on. And we’re now the only side that still hasn’t conceded in the UWCL! There was a good turnout for United fans. No idea how many exactly (about a hundred maybe?) but we made some good noise in the corner!
For once I’m happy to see an international break come up. Think our players deserve a break!
