WCL 25/26 | United v Lyon - 8pm Wed 10 Dec

Absolutely insane decision by the ref there. Stone wall foul on Galton but the moron ref gives it the other way
 
Dumornay with a 2nd. Great play from Diani down the right made it though, she found it far too easy to play a 1-2 on the wing and pull it back for Dumornay.
 
They don’t deserve 3-0 down. Same as with the Wolfsburg score.
Tiredness playing a part again perhaps. Signings required in January.
 
3-0 - nicely hit goal by Dumornay. Defending against Diani out wide basically non-existent. They look like they've got more players than us. Some shoddy defending tonight, as it was against Wolfsburg. Malard got a couple of good chances but looked too anxious to score.
 
I think comfortable win for Lyon who dominated aside from 1 chance for Malard at the end of the half and only for a period of 10-20 mins early in the 2nd half when we made the changes did we threaten to do anything going forward. And ultimately we didnt and they hit us on counters while we tried to be a bit more open going forward.

We also need to take into account that Lyon changed up their team and werent starting some of their normal starters. Chances for Brand and Sombath. The difference with us doing the same is the drop off in quality from our normal starters when we're playing Awujo, Naalsand and Williams. Lyon's subs and replacements are quality too and were good against us.

One positive for me was that when Toone, Park and Olmo came on Hinata was able to be influencial in the 2nd half and I'd have her as the 2nd best midfielder in that game after Dumornay

Also some tough assigments tonight defensively for Sandberg Vs. Brand, Riviere Vs. Chawinga and Le Tissier and George against Hegeberg but I think Riviere had a bit of success against Chawinga. The other 2 battles were struggles for Sandberg and our CBs

Agreed. We were always punching above our weight in this one due to squad depth and quality.
 
Disappointed with the result and the first half performance, but happy I finally got to finally experience a women’s game live.
 
We were well beaten by a much superior side. Riviere was good, but apart from that we either a) underperformed, or b) were simply outclassed by their skill and pace. The fact that they had a player on the bench who has won 8 Champions League finals says a lot.

We had one touch in their box in the first half, and that was Malard's header. We were more progressive in the second half, yet conceded two. That said, there is no shame in losing to such a quality side.

Edit: I've just seen that @jojojo said that they looked like they had more players than us. I thought exactly the same thing. Cheats!
 
Sorry, late to the party again.

I thought we played well -- e.g., didn't give up goals on bone-headed errors -- and I'm proud of our valiant performance. Lyon are just at a different level, and the match clearly illustrated the gap between a WCL newbie and a likely WCL winner.

Obviously we all would have preferred a better result, but it seems to me that this match might be beneficial in the long run for a couple of reasons. First, it provides (along with our other performances in both the WSL and WCL) exactly the evidence Skinner needs to demonstrate to management both (1) how much we have accomplished so far but (2) what is needed to get to that next level. Second, it should help make potential ("young and hungry") recruits during the next transfer window eager to sign with us, as a team on the rise that just needs a little more help.
