Our first Women's Champions League match at Old Trafford and it should be a good match.

PSG knocked us out of the WCL a couple of years back during the qualifiers for the group stage. A hard fought 1-1 at LSV was followed by a 3-1 defeat for us in Paris.

Since then, Mary Earps has swapped teams. United have brought in some new players including a couple of past WCL winners.

If you can get to the match - give it a go. Take your family. There are several deals kicking around, including discounted tickets and food for students! Tickets through the usual route for everyone.
 
With Janssen suspended for the PSG match who do you reckon we'll play alongside MLT tomorrow? We've haven't seen much of the alternative central pairings. I'm assuming it will be Gabby George, but even she hasn't had much match time and even less at centre back this year.

Millie Turner and Celin Bizet are the only other players we know are missing.

Ack! I totally forgot about Dom's suspension, which makes this a very bad time for Millie to be out. I hope Gabby can step in because I don't see many other options.

I'd forgotten about that too... Think I just assumed it would be successfully appealed!

Maybe Zigiotti could do a job there?

Did the club even appeal? It was a strange decision. Dominique has become a very important piece of the jiggsaw in very short time, and with Millie out it’s a bit of a mini crisis against a tram with the quality of forwards Paris have. If we had Mannion still, but I’m not convinced about anyone of the actual propositions.

Unfortunately I'm not surprised to read that the crowd is likely to be our worst Old Trafford crowd so far - they're throwing numbers like 12k around. As I say though, I'm not too surprised - it's midweek, it's a 8pm kickoff, it's winter.

We're still newbies when it comes to marketing the women's team. That said - most clubs are. The only real success stories are Arsenal and even they aren't playing the CL league matches at the Emirates.

Yes, Dom has certainly become a crucial piece in a short time. I thought she was inconsistent at DM but has become a reliable and solid CB. Plus, moving her to the back line opened up a midfield slot for Hinata, who since has also become a crucial piece in a short time.

I don't quite agree with you. Janssen and Miyazawa were comfortably paired together in midfield, so it's not really a question of opening up a slot for Hinata. Awujo or Naalsund can slot in there if we need to be more defensive.

Scarlet Hill has been on the bench quite often. Maybe she is ready?

I was thinking of the time just before that, when Dom was starting to get regular time at DM and Hinata was still mostly sitting on the bench. It must've been someone else leaving that opened up the opportunity for Hinata, but I can't remember. Am I thinking all the way back to when Zelem left? My memory is failing me this morning....

So lemme try again: Using Janssen at CB now makes room for Miyazawa and Zigiotti to pair in the midfield. (?)

Exactly. Miyazawa, Maya, PTJ and Toone have started all eight league games this season. Janssen has started seven, Zigiotti six. We also had the European games where they also featured.
 
OK, so now we can get back to the question of the hour, which is what to do today without Janssen. @jojojo said he assumed that George would slot in there, and I could see that. Another possibility might be to come out in a three-back formation. Didn't we do that in a match not all that long ago when we didn't have anybody available to play right back? As I recall it was against Arsenal, and also as I recall it didn't work out very well. But then, I think it's abundantly clear that my memory isn't to be trusted....
 
I think George was playing CB for Everton before we signed her, she was playing with Park and Bjorn funnily enough. Seems most likely she'll be at CB
 
I think Gabby George will start there tonight, although I do think my suggestion of Rachel Williams is both preposterous and sensible - she would be a beast as a CB!

If this works out, going forward we can pair her with Janssen at CB, and finally play Le Tissier at outside back where she belongs!

(Yes, I'm kidding.)
 


Big blow for us as PTJ is out with a knock, so Safia starts. Huge game for her to come into, hope she does well.
 
SMP will be fine. George at CB. Toone and Terland on the bench. Interesting times.

I think SMP will be fine too. George at CB makes sense, as does Malard in for Terland. A bit surprised by Toone starting on the bench, though...
 
Elsewhere, the Arsenal-Bayern match has been pretty entertaining. Anybody else watching this?
 
Always worry about the OT games, disappointing to not have PJT & Jansen. I will probably take a draw here
 
Not a great start for United. Not sure what position Simi is playing but she looks lost right now.
 
PSG have come out all guns blazing because this is a must-win for them, but I think we are definitely capable of beating this team.

That was a very soft booking for Malard. Ref completley fell for the theatrics.
 
This is exactly the sort of game where we need Rolfo to step up. Not really seen it so far.
