A. Was it necessary? Probably not.
B. Yes, it was helpful to identify which situation on the pitch I was referring to as Rachel was bossing it all over the place when she came on.
C. No it was not likely to cause any offense, at least not in the place of the world world I have been living in for the last 3 decades.
I am even following the WNBA with Caitlin Clarke and Angel Reese is setting rating records partially because of fans having some kind of racial war going on creating incredible polarasing interest - and I don´t think the comment I made would have raised an eyebrow on any of those forums.
Why would I not defend myself? If I did not mean any offense to anyone and have never in my life has discriminated against anyone because of their race - it would be idiotic to not make that point very clear to not have to have accusations of racism or anything to that effect hanging around my head.
I have "Panther" (Black Panther) as a VHS tape and I still do not see the problem here outside people assuming the worst of anyone making a comment that could in theory be seen as upsetting if the person making it was discriminating against a race.

I think we've got our knockout place sown up -somebody said we're actually mathematically confirmed as well as practically now but I can't claim too have checked that. Top four would be the dream of course - but we don't have the kindest draw.
Lyon are of course a nightmare. Maximum points in the French Ligue as well as the WCL. Great defenders and great attackers and that X factor, the winning mentality. They expect to win We'll be the underdogs but that doesn't mean it's impossible - just really hard. A Chelsea+ challenge, the + because we don't know them or maybe a Chelsea- because we don't know them...
Wolfsburg will also expect to win but maybe they're not quite so formidable. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. City are an annoying inconvenience of course, but when aren't they?
Juventus though? They should be pretty much our level to win or lose against. Very much the kind of challenge that PSG gave us tonight.

Really impressing in my book to win this starting without Tullis-Joyce, Janssen, Toone and Terland (who has done so well in Europe). Important to take three points here with the tough games ahead, so a bit risky unless it was completely necessary.
Sandberg did well to claw herself back against two sharp attackers, Miyazawa is incredibly important for this team, Maya Le Ttucetomato is so cool, and Jess Park was like firecrackers in that important stretch in the second half when we pulled away. Middleton-Patel did things in a calm and unfuzzed way that should cement her place as second keeper for both the women and men’s team.
But Jayde is my WOTM. Sometimes she is heads and shoulders above her opponents.

My comment was to praise Rachel Williams and I am not providing commentary on TV, so that article has no relevance to the comment I made!
Also I could not remove black as I wanted to specify exactly which duel I was referring to, not all PSG players are black. I could have not used the word if I wanted to be less precise of course! But when I wrote the message I had zero idea it would be offensive to anyone so being more specific did not have any downside at that point!
To be honest, she's very much the Jess Park I remember when she was a City teenager. She seemed to lose a lot of that in the system City needed her to play.

It was probably a mix of defenders and midfielders, of course in hindsight I could have said anything else, but as I had no thought about it being offensive it made no sense to consider it more than just write a post in 5-10 seconds and push send!

A couple of months back immediately after a United women game had ended and I had like had a 180 in heart rate for 20-30 minutes because I was nervous I called, Miyazawa our jap the player of the match or something to that effect. Which also was picked up with a response of that it was shocking or insulting or something similar (cant remember the exact wording)
My thought process that time was no longer than I would call like Rolfö or Sandberg a swede. But when I googled it I found out that some americans 83 years ago used the term Jap as a derogatory/term to japanese people after Pearl Harbor.
My question is, did I cross the line on that one as a swede calling Miyazawa a jap when stating she was our player of the match? Tbh the reason I wrote jap was because I was dizzy and foggy in the head from being nervous with my heart racing and could not recall to spell her name correctly at the time. My belief at the time was just that jap was a shortened version of japanese.
And if so, would that mean nobody can ever call a japenese citizen a jap ever again without it being seen as inappropriate? I got nothing against Japanese people either and probably respect them more than swedes as they are often more polite. And I also have been a fan of the table tennis player Hina Hayata following her career and games for a long time.
I believe it was Demon Barber who brought that up at the time. I like to stress that I like Demon and never had any problems with him or before that :-)
Just looking to get some final guidance here before hopefully not causing any similar drama in the future!

Park is the best signing I've seen for United, her poise, elegance and control is outstanding.
And for a young goalkeeper to step in at the last minute and pull off a world class save like that, unbelievable.

I was not trying to make it better, what has been done has been done. I am transparent with what has happened and seeking clarifications and answers. If I have been insulting people without having any idea I am doing so or why. The best I can do is ask questions, get answers, perhaps educate myself and try do better in the future!

We're heading down an off-topic rabbit hole at this point, but I will give a brief response.
I'm pretty forgiving of posters who are working in their second language and make mistakes. In fact there are enough differences between the US and the UK, the 2020s and the 1980s - to mean any of us can screw up.
Is Jap acceptable describing an actual person - no, not in the UK not in the US. That's a 2020s judgment, it's the kind of term used in a war movie from the 1940s or maybe someone trying to be edgy on a gaming site.
Broadly, in terms of what triggered this current discussion. Where the use of skin colour, ethnicity, religion etc isn't necessary - don't use it. It is not the equivalent of referring to a player as blond or whatever. It's not purely descriptive because it carries a particular weight in how it's read. A weight both of history and of current abuse and stereotyping. It's not even an actual description. It will inevitably have racist overtones and it will cause upset and offence.

Park is really a bums-off-seats player, so grewt to watch when she’s on fire.
I was also impressed by how Skinner had us change tactics for the defensive press (to plain 4-4-2, to 4-5-1) and while being persistent with playing out from the back during the game to expose that PSG weren’t able to uphold their initial agressive pressing for more than periods of the game. Good tactical calls.
I loved Safia's post match interview as well.
Throughout the game she was assured and performed so well. She had absolutely no chance with Olga's goal, but the save onto the post was outstanding.
Yeah, not on the same wavelength as the rest of the team was my main take away, which is fair enough given the amount of minutes she had. I did feel before she was subbed there were times where she looked tired and unable to make up that extra yard or two in good positions.
Great win in any event. Hopefully if we eke out a couple of draws from the remaining fixtures that’s enough to see us through now.
I thought Awujo was excellent last night, especially given that it was only her second start after injury.
Miyazawa and Simi absolutely controlled the central midfield. PSG were forced to play the ball out wide, where Sandberg (very good) and Riviere (POTM) dominated.

Loved that last night, loved being there, loved us putting two past Earps that she couldn’t stop, loved Saf stepping up too. Was a bit nervous about that, but she looked pretty assured. Nothing she could do about their goal I don’t think, have seen someone say her positioning was a bit off, but it looked pretty top corner with a bit of swerve.
Awujo made a couple of dodgy defensive decisions, certainly looked happier going forwards. Zigiotti also made a few uncharacteristic errors, but PSG were pressing all game, we were under a fair bit of time pressure on the ball.
I’m sure everyone who played will have gained a lot from that match, and the confidence from the win should be huge.

The only criticism of her for it in my opinion is that a taller keeper probably can save it, which isn't something she can change so totally unfair.
PSG are a powerful side and at one point thought they’d start to bully us if we tired. Our women are just fighters though and technically so advanced, even in comparison to some of the more established teams. Was a good game to watch. Decent crowd too but would have hoped for more as a midweek when there is no real football this week or at the weekend.

I could watch this a million times. Just a brilliantly worked team goal, with 13 passes from one end of the pitch to the other. Apart from Park’s dribble, nobody took more than 3 touches, and everybody had their head up looking for the next pass.
There have been great individual goals, obviously, but that is up there with the best United goal. Surprisingly, very little was actually said about how good Rolfo's header was.
At this risk of opening up Pandora's box again in this thread, women's club football and international men's football are "real" football.
No men's PL football or something like that would be more apt, and wouldn't inadvertently diminish the women's game.
That aside, results like this are great and hopefully there'll be more and more taking notice of the good work going on with the women's side at United. I haven't really paid much attention in the past, and there's an exciting refreshment to see the club represented in a different context, like when watching youth football.

I have to admit that, from the moment we finished in the top three last season, I genuinely thought that we should be happy to say "it's an honor just to be nominated" -- and that even if we somehow managed to get through qualifying (which I thought unlikely) it would quickly become apparent that we were not yet ready for the CL. I am simply amazed -- and thrilled, to be sure -- that as I write this we are one of only three teams with 9 points after 3 league matches, along with Barcelona and Lyon. IMO what we have already achieved is simply extraordinary, whatever happens going forward. I am so damn proud of this team!

As someone who is heading to Germany next week (so giddy, can't wait!!), I am fully prepared for defeat. If Lyon and Barca are Chelsea level, then Wolfsburg are City/Arsenal - we can beat them but away from home in another country and four days after derby day may just be too much of an ask. I reckon three points against Juve takes us through!
