We have the strongest and most balanced squad post-Fergie

Yes, we may be better on paper, unfortunately the game is played on grass. the players we have at the moment continually prove that they're not as good as a lot of those teams you've listed.
That is the point?

We're talking about our squad on paper, we should not be this low in the table.

We're 13th
We have a better and deeper squad than Palace, Brentford, Fulham, Bmouth without question (that puts us 9th) and I 'd argue we have a better one than Brighton and even Forest.

Pool, Ars, City, Villa, Chelsea, Newcastle (basically because they have Isak) I think it's fair to say have a better squad overall. With Newcastle and Villa it should be much closer, everyone has just revised their thoughts on our players since this season has been so woeful.

Yeah I'd still agree that it's a top 6 squad most days, unfortunately players and collectively teams have bottom and top levels and I think our gap is huge.

It seems like people have decided this is our level but a few players and better form and we'd shoot up the table next season.

Not having a prolific goalscorer kills any team dead.

It doesn't if the system makes chances in general. Arsenal top scorer was Saka with 16 for example and they should have won the league. We do need the front 3 all getting into double digits though, I think that's the minimum when you can't sign a Haaland or Isak level goal scorer.

Even just going off last season though, Hojlund scored 10 goals in 30PL games, that's very steady PL striker level for a central attacker, regardless of how they play. His near equivalents were Nunez 11 goals, Havertz 13, Wood 14, Wissa 12 and his goal per game of 1 in 3 was pretty solid without being amazing. We should be able to work at that level and build off it but we just fell off a cliff.

I'm all for writing this season off but I hope we see improvements coming now, I feel like it has been long enough for them to get to grips with the basics of their roles. We have to see something.

Name 2-3 20 year old players, who are better. Garnacho is a fantastic talent

Gavi, Joao Neves, Savinho for starters. There's quite a few let's be honest, at least if we're accounting for players even younger than him which we should.

Garnacho is at this level too. He has a long period now where, like the rest of the team, he is underperforming. But he is, as I said, part of a team where everyone, with few exceptions, plays worse than what their talent warrants.

Garnacho has already shown that his peak level is insanely high, but many fans have a tendency to forget that when things don't work out for a few months.

I would see selling Garnacho as one of the biggest mistakes we have made for many years in terms of selling players.

Based on what? A few moments here and there? He is part of a toothless attack since quite a long time. He is way too young to be criticized for it but just ignoring it when assessing his current quality doesn't make any sense

What does insanely high mean? He had great moments. But a run of maybe two or three games where he was more than good? Not so easy. And again, there must be a middle ground between "insanely high" and "shit". Everybody is aware that Garnacho has a lot of potential. But he doesn't warrant being placed in some unsellable category.

The biggest mistake in terms of selling players has been to always to miss the opportunity. Martial, Rashford, Shaw, Maguire, McTominay, Lindelof, I am sure we would find others. The warning signs were always there. Yet fans were convinced of their world class. Because moments mattered...

Part of being a top club is selling very good players that maybe aren't good enough. Or not suited. If you want the team to change, new faces, new attitude then something has to give. And that includes the pricey assets as well.

Individually, the players are better than the position we are in, but mentally and as a team?

It's not as if this is new, we've been poor for a long time.

Strongest team has to be the Europa winning team
Or Bruno Pogba rashford martial Greenwood Lukaku cavani

In attack, yes, but in midfield and defense, our current team is way better than our 2017 or 2021 sides.

Onana, Mazraoui, Dalot, De Ligt, Maguire, Martínez, Yoro, Mainoo >>> De Gea, AWB, Lindelöf, Bailly, Fred, McTominay, etc.

This thread looks worse the more time goes on :D i wonder if the person who started it now regrets it

Hmmm. Onana who is a bad joke, De Ligt who is just as slow as a dead snail and we could only sign him because he failed in Turin and in Munich too, Dalot who couldn't be a starter in any top team, Maguire... Even mentioning him is funny, Yoro who hasn't proven he's worth 60 million yet and Mainoo who's performance had declined. Mazraoui seems like a useful player, and Ugarte who is at least good in defensive play. The rest... I still say this squad should be around the 8-10th place, but not better. Amorim's bad tactics ruin the play but this piss poor squad couldn't be better than eight anyway.

Defence absolutely not. De Gea was a beast. He was a whole defence to himself. Plus Luke shaw was playing a chunk of the season and you had AWB as the right back. AWB not great going foward but he was great at one on one defending something Dalot struggles with. And midfeild no either. Pogba, Fred, Mc Tominay is better than Maino and Ugarte. I think this season we are over hyping Maino and Ugarte. They had good games but they still struggle in controlling games. A lot of times Bruno has had to step in midfeild to help with the ball progression.
The 2021 squad was good. And it would have made top 4 easily this season. They just didn;t have a style play outside counter attacking to maximize their talent. Say what you want about Pogba, but I would kill to have the Pogba of that season in this midfeild
