We need to talk about the Cunha-Mbeumo-Amad front 3

Cuhna wouldn't be in the team if Dorgu was fit its pretty simple we'd have more balance too
One of the craziest takes in quite a long time.

Although the ones saying Zirkzee should be anywhere near the team rival it.

I agree.

I'd still probably try Cunha-Sesko-Amad since it's a combo we've not tried yet, and start rotating the under-performer from there each game so everyone knows they have to perform to keep their place.

As much as Amad could do with some time on the bench, he's at least already tasted being dropped from the team - I don't think Mbeumo is going to improve by being rewarded for his poor performances with an automatic start every game.
I agree with the Amad sentiment with the bench and that Mbeumo doesn't deserve to start. If fit id like to see Dorgu - Sesko - Cunha with the two wides being able to switch sides as we've seen Dorgu play really well on the right. They both also are capable of good crosses.

It seems like we prefer Mbuemo up top at the minute because he is more mobile and aggressive when pressing the opposition. For all the good Sesko has done recently he has looked laboured at that side of the game and when we have a midfield two that is pedestrian at best it's probably a way of ameliorating that.
It’s pretty much this. It’s not just the pressing and defensive running but also him running away from the ball repeatedly until knackered. It also preps Sesko as he comes on against tiring players who aren’t as mentally switched on.

When I am watching it, the team seems to play as more of a 442 than any sort of front 3. I am relatively happy with how the front four has been performing since Carrick took over, think he has us set up much better than we were. Saving the big, strong and fast fella as an option against tiring teams has proved successful too.

The key really is that when Bruno has the ball in space that he has options. We are well set up to give him that.
Feels that way quite often. Bruno organizes the press from the front, he basically operates often in line with the striker.

I like the idea of Bruno joining midfield/forwards depending on the moment of the game, but I don't like our pressing structure. On paper it looks like we could be a really good pressing side with all of Cunha, Mbuemo, Bruno and Amad, but then you have midfield that is not capable of any sort of pressing so this isn't really effective at all, and we are easily by-passed often (this is our no1 weakness imo, just look at Brentford and Newcastle games, how much joy their players have running through our midfield). We make it far too easy for the opposition, but I also don't think this problem will be solved with current squad available.

Amad had 2 goals and 2 assists all season.

I see absolutely every reason why he doesn’t deserve to be starting ahead of Mbuemo.

Antony had very good general play too and was a brilliant out ball under pressure, but was hounded out of the club for his low productivity. Amad this season has been far below the required standard for a left forward, even post Amorim.

I don't get overly fixated on the g&a stats of individual players as long as the attacking unit they're a part of is functioning well.

I think in general Amad is a better footballer than Mbeumo, better technically, better dribbler, and keeps possession better. This year his g&a has been disappointing though.

Without Mbeumo we’d be nowhere near 3rd place though, I very much doubt the same can be said for Amad.

So what makes a ”better footballer”, I mean clearly Jesus is a MUCH better footballer than Haaland, but is he though?

It needs to be improved if you’re planning on battling for champions leagues. I think anyone would agree with that. At the same time though Mbuembo/Cunha/Sesko have been excellent signings and have brought huge stability for the club and should be gaurunteed champions league football for the next five years at least. Unless you get an absolute world class winger and striker to replace im not sure. There is a serious lack of quality of wide players and strikers in the premier league at the moment, worst I’ve ever seen it in all honesty since the premier league began. Not even wingers and strikers, world class midfielders as well. Midfield and full backs need huge work in the summer is gonna be the priority. I’m happy enough with them but when we stabilise as a champions league club season in and season out the top world class players will want to come, United are stabilising their wage structure as well so it will be interesting. The quality of football players has been in huge decline since around 2020, it mind baffling really

This team is crying out for dynamic wide forwards like Doue and Dembele but that remains a dream of mine.

The way things are going I'm willing to try Zirzkee up front with Cunha and Amad running off him because Mbeumo is not working centrally. Big Zirk has been terribly unlucky in recent games to not get on the scoreboard and before season end I think he still has a part to play.
I don't see it. It always looks like for every good involvement he has, there's a bad one. That just drags a team down.

I thinks it's less about the personalities and more about set up. Without Dorgu we are too narrow and whoever on right flanks suffers. MBeumo/Amad form dipped since we lost width/Dorgu. Cunha is the player who relies mostly on skill and flair and was affected much less. Sesko is excelling as a sub because he exploits the opponents defending patterns (they cant just adapt fast enough when we switch to higher tempo and long balls).

Look I get he's not the popular choice right now and the numbers don't lie. I just wish he could turn a corner and things can start going well for him because we need all our players to be contributing.

Regardless I'm still going to support him while he's a United player.
