So frustrating that Como can sign a quality left back like Kaiki for 14m. He's one of the best young full backs in Brazil and has already been capped at International level, if he was English you'd be looking at 60m.
I'll wait until the window closes before judging our summer but I'd be disappointed if we don't sign a left back especially when such a good squad addition was available for this price.
At right back I would love to see us sign Tobias at Shaktar because he has a profile we currently lack. His crossing ability and long range passing either line breaking progressive passing or diagonal switch of play is excellent and something we get almost zero of from both Dalot and Maz.
Just using his games in the champions league and europa league he compares with Dalot and Mazraoui:
Accurate long balls- Tobias -4.5, Dalot- 0.65, Maz- 0.54
Crossing accuracy- Tobias-37.1%, Dalot- 28.3%, Mazraoui-25%
Long ball accuracy- Tobias-68%, Dalot- 48% , Mazraoui - 26%
Chances Created- Tobias-1.4 , Dalot-0.79, Mazraoui- 0.45
Progressive Carries- Tobias -3.8, Dalot-1.95, Mazraoui - 2.1
Progressive passes- Tobias-4.88, Dalot- 5.32, Mazraoui- 3.9
Progressive passes- Tobias-9.12, Dalot- 7.9, Mazraoui- 6.45
(possession adjusted)
Passes into penalty area- Tobias-1.22, Dalot- 0.8, Mazraou-0.64
Dalot benefits from our high share of possession which allows him to accumulate a higher total of raw progressive passes while Shaktar have much less sustained possession in europe. Once you look at the progressive passing numbers adjusted for possession Tobias isn't just making more he's doing it highly efficiently.
Tobias represents a fairly low risk/high reward type of signing. Having Dalot and Mazraoui completely removes the immediate pressure on an incoming 22-year. If Tobias struggles with the physicality of English football or experiences a dip in form, the team’s floor never drops.
He would give us an elite crossing and switching outlet to unlock low blocks or play on the counter attack. If we plan to have Sesko as our #9 going forward then any full back we sign needs to be a good crosser of the ball.
