We Need Two Full Backs

Does anyone have a big list of all the lbs we've been linked with over the last 2-3 years? A pattern in our signings this season seems to be that, even though the reporting increases the day or 2 before the signing is made, they aren't actually players we haven't been linked with at all. We had links with both Santos and Tielemans in the past, same with Sesko before, and now obviously Baleba. I don't think it will necessarily be Hall, but I could see us getting a lb we were linked with 1 year ago, 8 months ago, maybe even longer. Seys and Salinas seem very recent unlike the other signings we've made (maybe more like Lammens in that regard).

Rather we get a specialist left back that can be LB for the next 7 or 8 seasons.

RB can wait with Yoro/Dalot/Mazroaui good enough for this season if we get an attacking left back.

The RB would just need to be solid/extra CB like Arsenal and City.

We have 2 “wingers” that aren’t really wingers, can’t beat a man 1 vs 1 and full backs that don’t overlap to help at all.

Watching Ben White do it for that Arsenal goal while we can’t was depressing. He’s not exactly prime Cafu.

These days our wings are hit and hope crosses and or cutting inside, essentially completely ineffective.

We need to invest.

We've needed new full backs for years. The quality has been dreadful. And why the feck is Shaw still around over a decade after joining? He's either shite or injured. Dalot is nothing but a punchline

Yet another example of how horrific our recruitment has been. Last year we desperately needed to overhaul attack, this year midfield, next defence.

The whole fecking team is in a constant cycle of needing an overhaul

Shaw and Dalot are two of our most long standing first team players - and neither can attack very well. For a modern club, this is not good enough.

Your FB's need to be quality. None of ours are.

Bit harsh on Shaw - but he's been dreadful going forward for years. Dalot/maz - decent to average players but certainly not going to be able to compete in the top half of the prem with these FB options

Arsenal use center backs at full back. Neither attack as well as Dalot and Shaw. Sometimes it's more about the overall system, the players around them, wingers in front, developing an understanding etc.

Shaw instantly looked much better going forward when Rashford came on, than at any point since Rashford left the club. It's because they understand each other's games and look to use each other. We don't have any partnership on the wings with the fullbacks because we've had no consistency of system or players picked there. I hope Dalot and Amad can develop one, on paper they should work.

If we get someone like Balde, What about Yoro as a full time RB

there were links to Crystal Palace-Sarr who is a pacy right winger, Sarr and Yoro combo might work too.

White has proven to be a better attacker than Dalot could ever wish to be though - Arsenal are simply miles ahead of where we are at the moment though so we can't compare,

I get your point about a system and style though. We are lacking that for sure.

Shaw and Rashford combo has been tried over several seasons - we need to progress. I'd argue neither have a long term future here.

Shaw's days of being an attacking threat left him years ago. He is a defensive full back now - that's it.

Dalot has been here years and years - we know what he is about now. He isn't suddenly going to become an elite attacking full back - regardless of who plays ahead of him. We need an overhaul at FB

Or maybe force Dorgu to improve his close control and decisions making in the FB position instead of doing shooting drill while shouting “…FINISH!”

Brighton fan in peace...string rumours here Ferdioglu on route to United

The thing is that our full backs are so poor that there are numerous options from PL that would improve those positions straight away

Munoz, Mitchell, Robinson, Truffert, Diouf from West Ham last year, several others

I think there’s a lot more than that who would improve us.

I think we have some of the weakest full back options in the league.

Oh absolutely - they’re just a handful off the top of my head.

Loads more - Cash, Davis, any of Spurs etc

Just seen a tweet from a Brighton fan being upset over Ferdi Kadioglu being absent and he thinks it might be us. Although there were rumours about him going to Fenerbahche!

Silly season I know but anyone rate this guy

Excellent for them last season. Would be an interesting move.

Corners will be a nightmare to defend with him as LB and with Lisandro, Andrey and Tielemans in that defence

I just recently suggsted him in the LB thread. Would be interesting and a typical INEOS signing as no one had it seen coming.

34 starts, 1 goal 0 assists last season

Come on. Are we even trying with the rumours at this point? If the players have less end product than our current fullbacks it isnt happening

We need a left back and a right back. Sell Maz. We need an option who offers us far more going forward on the right.
With two days left in the window. We need another option at LB, desperately

This is what the plan should have been all summer, at this point I’m just hoping we get a LB though.

With little money and almost nothing to sell, we were never going to be able to fill all needs.

If we had bought a LB, you would be in the"We need a third midfielder" thread.

Ugarte injury messed our budget also.

Selling Maz would have raised money, that combined with funds not spent on Hall means there should be scope for two fullbacks. We were never solving all our problems but as it stands now not enough has been done.

Who is to say that he had funds for Hall? Or anyone for that matter?

Who’s to say they didn’t, plenty of speculation we tried to sign him and he wasn’t going to be free. The net spend is low, extremely unlikely more couldn’t be spent and even more if Mazraoui was sold.

Anyone who expected the club to have a net spend of 250-300m this summer would be naive as is anyone who believes the club can’t spend more than what they have now.

I dont know, but you said "with funds not spent on Hall" which would imply we have money to spend? It is not for me to prove we didnt, when you already stated we did.

What i know is that we have not sold anyone of real substance this summer. The Hojlund money went to paying the revolving credit limit used to buy Sesko last summer.

I think money is tight and they best we can hope for is another player on the credit card, which if happens, will eat into next years spend.

I’m not expecting you to prove anything as it’s an internet forum. But then you’ve also referred to the RCF which we all know the club has and proves they can spend money so I suppose you have proved I was right in the end anyway.

They used the RCF last summer as they were near guarenteed to receive the fee from Napoli for Hojlund?

Where is the loan with an obligation coming from this time round?

Go look up the RCF info, you were correct the club does have money to spend on credit which is what I said in the first place.

I disagree massively with the idea that we need two fullbacks. That’s crazy talk. We need four!

There is a practical difference between having credit, and being confortable enough to use it.

Im sure most people have tens, if not hundreds, of £ availble to them on their credit cards. But they dont use it becasue they know they cant clear those balances in good time.
