We Need Two Full Backs

Think we need to buy at least one full back depending on where we play Dorgu going forward.
Dorgu further forward looks much better. Bring in another LB as Shaw won't handle the workload of all the extra games and although he has been fine - for the most part - another dimension to the LB position is required. Personally, I like Diouf, the lad at West Ham. He is dynamic, a big presence who is full of energy with space and strength - plus, he has the added bonus of being pretty good in the air, something United will lose when Casemiro leaves. Lewis-Skelly is another decent option, as noted above.

Andy Mitten I think it was said on TOTD podcast that there is absolutely no activity this summer at RB for Utd. They are content with Dalot and Mazza and have more pressing priorities elsewhere on the pitch.

Between them, United are probably somewhere between OK & fine. Certainly not great but fine for now, especially with other, much more pressing needs. Obviously, the limitations are evident but Dalot is OK without being special and Mazraoui, when fit, is a good player. I can see them staying as they are at RB for next season.

We haven’t even seen him play LB in a back four system under Carrick. No one thought he would make the impact at LW that he did, and he quickly changed minds with just a handful of performances. He’s far too young to be written off or boxed into one set position. I think he’ll prove very useful in a variety.

I still think we should buy another LB, however.

Dorgu is quite versatile and can play on either side of the pitch - what we have seen thus far is that he looks a decent option in the final third. Very encouraging young talent, I love his enthusiasm and prior to his unfortunate injury, the lad was patently enjoying his football which was great to see.

I suspect he’ll also develop into a decent option at FB - can’t see any good reason he can’t develop well there too, especially in games where we expect to have more of the ball. Carrick seems to like having one FB who can push forward and attack with the other one dropping in to form a back three, and Dorgu seems very well suited for the one that pushes on. I have no doubt if he’d have been fit in the past while we’d have seen him play at least some minutes at LB providing width and an overlap for Cunha who likes to come inside - especially with Shaw’s stamina issues. It would have just been such an obvious sub/tactical tweak to try.

Depends how big a budget we have. The focus must be 2 or 3 new midfielders and at least one attacking player. If there are still money left, get a right-back which is more important than left back
Worryingly INEOS don't seem to see an issue at RB especially when you look at what Dalot offers

I think the Lewis Hall rumours have legs, just price dependent.

With UEFA not sanctioning the sale of the stadium they may be willing to sell, doesn't mean he will be cheap but maybe easier to get than previously thought.
Think it will have legs provided that we aren't fully in for Tonali as no chance they sell two in same window

The fact is, Dalot is a good age and rarely gets injured, and in Mazraoui we have another player in reserve at a good age.

Absolutely, we need to improve at right back, but with one central midfielder on the books that’s good enough next season, a 31yo left back with injury issues and a year on his contract and probably needing another forward option, it’s just not high enough on the to do list this summer. We can’t do it all in one transfer window, it’s about priorities. Right back is a 2027 issue to fix.

Mazraoui is our reserve RB and he would walk into the majority of most Premier League teams so I really do not think this is worth talking about.

Dahl at Benfica looks an interesting player, solid defensively, crossing and good pace, alittle small, but seems compact.

Roma have 40% sell on clause, which might make the price unrealistic.

Apparently we’ve scouted him 10 times this season.

So where would you rate Dalot in relation to other RB's in the Premier League?
Well certainly lower than the likes of Kayode, Timber, White, Porro and Livramento in attacking terms

I think Maz as locked in starter at RB will be much better than Dalot. I hope, so much, that Dorgu can take the LB spot, but it's no given. No way we can rely on Shaw.

If we don't sell Dalot, then I hope we only spend money on one.

Maybe the see Overy, kamason or Helufu coming in as well?

There are too many higher priorities to upgrade at both fullback positions. At best, we should upgrade on Shaw and let Dalot/Mazraoui carry on.

kamason has signed a new contract so we will see how he progresses.

We strictly need a left back. Our fan bsdes disrespect our RBs way to much thanks to having seen the founder as wing backs. They are far better than most care to admit

We need at least one side to provide attacking outlet. As in now, none of our fullbacks is at the required level attacking wise. Just none.

There's not many available that would be guaranteed to improve much. Only two fullbacks in the league has created more big chances than Dalot this season (unsurprisingly, Pedro Porro and Reece James). He has also scored 1 goal and 3 assists.

I get the frustrations with Dalot, and he is one of the most annoying players in the squad in terms of decision making at times, but the fact is that he is a solid, all around right back, and the idea that we can easily get another right back that will contribute equally as much as him - both offensively and defensively - is way off. This is more about replacing him because fans don't like him and want something new, but we've been doing this so many times with other players, and it almost always backfires.

Pretty much this. Dalot isn't the ideal RB but upgrading at RB is pretty low on the list of priorities that need to get addressed over the summer.

Agreed. Dalot and Maz are good options. Our LB situation is rather dire though unless we plan with Dorgu there rather than the wing

We need a new starting RB and LB, we basically have 4 squad players at best in Dalot, Mazraoui, Shaw and Dorgu. Two of those are injury prone as well, given other needs you can probably only sign one fullback position this summer but it’s a key issue that needs to be addressed.

We need more signings like Lammens so it probably is a cheaper punt like Palestra or Read, maybe even Acheampong rather than a proven player or someone like Lewis Hall.

I like Minteh and think he could adapt to play RB
I’ll keep mentioning him.
We need to be checking the fee quoted if ‘pool genuinely go for him. He’d be a bargain in the 40-45m range.

He’s not going to be elite as a winger, He’s in the Milner, Valencia tier for reliability but with better dribbling and pace.
If the fee is reasonable he’d be an excellent utility player.

Minteh is very left-footed. You're not going to have a left-footed player as a RB for anything other than the most emergency of emergencies (e.g. Dalot switching over when Shaw and Dorgu were out).

If Pool go for him then it would be great news for United - let him go there and leave United a free run at Diomande.

I think he’d be fine at right back,
However I didnt mention RB, I said he’d be an excellent utility player for 40-45m. Someone reliable for a good number of seasons.

Lewis Hall is the best alternative - and I think we could get him if we decide not to go for Tonali or Bruno G. But if we want a slightly cheaper option - I really like Bournemouths Truffert.

If we can't get Lewis Hall, we should be all over David Raum. Having a blistering season for Leipzig, and offensively it's like having a second winger.

Is Truffert good or just lively like Kerkez was under Iraloa too?

I think LB budget will be dictated by how much we have spent on the various CMs we need to bring in.

Surely we can find the next hakimi or dani alves. Wouldn't mind a punt on a young prospect from aboard who they think really could develop into an elite LB.

Linked to David Raum today by Teamtalk who is probably a terrible source, but it is an interesting link nonetheless. Liverpool also said to be interested. Guess that too makes sense given how poor Kerkez has been, and with Robertson leaving. Would think they had other issues, but ok.

David Raum would be a huge upgrade for Man Utd and probably the exact type of left back we would be looking at if we continue with Michael Carrick. Very fast. Very agile and built just like you want a fullback to be. Even more so, he is a very good crosser of the ball.

In fact, he has 2.0 key passes from crosses per 90 min. Only two players in the top five leagues in Europe has more. He has 3,1 accurate crosses per 90 min. Only one player has more. Bruno is the player at Man Utd with the most accurate crosses per 90 min with 1,5. He has 1,1 key pases per 90 min from crosses. Dalot is our best fullback with 0,6 and 0,2. Hence, Raum would potentially be a new tool that could help unlock Sesko and a huge upgrade from Shaw attacking wise.

David Raum is currently the captain of RB Leipzig and probably a good character to have at the club. The only minus is age, but with his contract up next summer, it would not be a huge issue. Could he also sway Diomande in our favour?

Tonight was the sign of things to come if we don’t get new fullbacks. Shaw and Mazraoui are not up to it physically and Dorgu is maybe not even a full back.

For all his flaws Dalot is our best fullback, and he should be 2nd choice. It’s so difficult though as we have issues at CB as well and 2 midfielders is the bare minimum to address our issues there.
