We seem busier in the transfer market this summer

This is the thing, I keep seeing this everywhere. We are doing things different, we seem more organised... How so?

Sancho was a target for over 18 months, alot of leg work was done last season so it isn't really quick.

We looked at Trippier in January.. we are not close
Varane, been hearing its close for like over a week now and really there has been no progress in a week. Its always the same, a bid is imminenet, preparing a bid, in the next few days...

We haven't even announced Sancho yet. Do people realise that season starts in less than a month. Players will be coming back to pre season end of this week so we haven't actually moved any faster than normal.
Sancho is signed. The only thing stopping him holding up the shirt is the marketing department.

We seem busier because there’s been major protests and the Glazers need to do something to win the fans.

Sancho / Varane / Trippier deals are almost done so this is a productive summer for sure even we stop it with these 3 and it will improve us for sure

Bissouma / Touchameni / Carmavinga / Neves / Rice, I will be happy if we get one of these to play in CDM role. Looks like Bissouma and Touchameni are 2 we can really look at considering the number of attacking players we have.

One of Saul / Aouar / Goretzka / Zielinski(napoli) If Pogba leaves.

On top of this if we can move out any of Martial / James / Jesse / Perrera / Jones / Baily I will be happy too.

I think the outs are interesting .. We've managed to clean up the squad quite a bit past two summers. I hope we get decent money for Lingard, Pereira and get Jones off the wage bill somehow.

Bailly, James etc. are good backups. Don't think we'll sell Martial yet..

Meh, fans are still going to be angry at the end of the summer unless we spend 200+ million.
Sancho (73) / T|rippier (17) / Varane (40) / CDM(30) = -160M (CDM can be one of Carmavinga / Bissouma / Touchameni)
Jesse(20) / Martial(40) / Perrera(10) / Dalot(15) / Williams(10) / Jones(free) / Baily(15) = +110

With 50M net spend
we can look a lot better, We need only 4 signings and it appears we alrady done lot of back ground work for these 4 new signings.

-------------------------------------- --Cavani / Greenwood -----------------------------------

--Rashford/James -------------------------Bruno / VDB -------------------Sancho /Amad--------

--------------------Pogba/Fred ----------------Bissouma/McTominay--------------------------------

----Sahw/Telles--------------Maguire/Axel----------Varane/Lindelof--------------Trippier/AWB--

-----------------------------------------------DDG/Henderson---------------------------------------------------------------

We can still have Mata/Matic/Elanga/Hannibal as backup

I'd be happy if our strongest line up were 4-3-3... Henderson... Trippier... Varane... Maguire... Shaw... Goretzka... Ndidi... Bruno... Sancho... Cavani... Rashford... :)

If we have any sense we'll exploit the market this season and next, pick up young players with high potential, go all in on Haaland next summer and then hopefully be in a position where our outgoings for the following 5-6 years would be drastically reduced as our young first teamers mature and we bring through the hot prospects from the youth squad.

it would be a canny investment when certain clubs need to sell and other big clubs can't invest at the moment.

One signing is busy now? No deadwood sold either. Kids still not decided on their loan destinations. Seems like the usual slow pace to me.

Sancho is the only signing, what you mean by busy? If it’s rumours then it’s pretty quiet. What can/will trump the summer is Pogba fecking off and good riddance too!

For me it is just another Ground Hog Summer. They are trying to get as much as they can out of the Sancho signing by delaying the announcement.
I read somewhere the other day Ole has plans for Lingard. For F's sake get rid of him. He is dead wood.
I'm hopefull on Varane but sounds like a Ramos situation.
As for the Pogba Circus; do we really want it to go on for another year. Take what we can and move on.
There are a few Italian clubs interested in Dalot, Pereira and Matic. Stop haggling and get rid of them.
Same old same old; Glazers out!!

Feels like Sancho has been a smokescreen for our transfer ineptitude yet again. We are nearly 21 days away from the start of the season and have only signed 2 players (if we consider Sancho)
I am still hoping and praying we get all our signing sorted by the 1st week of aug to get our players ready. With players not coming in, there’s a question mark over players not going out and that does cause uncertainty amongst the group of players training

The only good plan Ole needs to have for Lingard is to get 20 mil for him

The only busier is links to unlikely transfers, seems the genius that call themselves negotiators still seem to have trouble concluding business. The Glazers fanboy Woodward continues to play hardball over relatively small amounts so that a small man can seem tough.

Surely it’s time to get them done, players in for training and get some of the deadwood out. That’s what you would call a busy market, not some media led frenzy from the Man Utd media hacks. It sounds negative, but if we miss this opportunity and Citeh do actually get Harry and Chelsea get most of their targets, we will again drift behind.

Nail on the head right there, until we actually sign the targets we are after and offload deadwood then it's all just media hype and speculation.

I have taken a break from football transfer news more or less since the season ended. We've signed Sancho thats it right? Looks like we might sign Varane or some other defender. That's not exactly super busy.

I thought we were doing well but then I saw the squad against derby and some of the pre-season training pictures.

Mata
Perreria
Lingard

Then you have Rashford's surgery, Martial still injured, Pog circus....not confident at all going into the season, even with Sancho signed!

It's now Friday and I don't think there has been a significant development for us all week.

Haven't heard anything this week whatsoever from the journos who seem to predominantly cover United (Whitwell, Stone, Mitten, Ducker..) other than to say "nothing new"

We have actually signed one player that we didn't know we needed. While dallying on finalizing a 2 year transfer saga. Pogs exit looming over us. And then a bunch of other rumours.

I'd say that's a pretty standard summer.

Agreed and add that we are back at preseason already which means yet again we are slow and cumbersome.

We have been linked with 100s of players every year - thats normal

There is a distinct possibility we will end up with just Sancho as a decent signing - and even that transfer is still not done

Never gonna happen! Who's gonna pay 40 million for Martial never mind match his wages? Bailly has just signed a new contract he isn't leaving either. If we want Jones to leave we would need to pay his contract off which is about 6 million. It looks Like Dalot is likely going to be another loan as European clubs are broke, Plus do we want to spend around 20 million on Right Back who will be 31 in a couple in a coupld of months? terrible idea! Plus I'd say it's more likely a midfielder will be around 40 million. Think the only way we get a midfielder is if Pogba Leaves.

Tie down Pogba now, or sell him then move on and get another CM. I'd rather tie him down. Cause cant see OGS playing 1 DM ? Or stranger things have happened. DVB is another one that maybe has to improve. Jesse either moves on or he gets more playing time. Theres not much room in there with Bruno as well.

Why do they?
Because it hits them in their pockets. It’s the fans who buy the kits and season tickets. And the protests negatively affect the owners’ image in front of sponsors and potential sponsors.

So those protests did nothing because they still sell out.

We had a shocking summer last year though so it’s absolutely necessary. Almost comparable to Chelsea last summer following a one year ‘transfer ban’.

If you compare them last summer to us this summer we still have a lot to do.

Did we really?
We managed to bring back-ups to Fernandes, Shaw and replaced Ighalo. We also beat other clubs to one of the most talented youngsters and we brought another exciting young right winger.
I think we did well. Not great, but definitely not shocking.
And I don't see anything shocking in not paying 108 million for Sancho, especially after we still got him and that's 35 million cheaper.

We haven't been busy at all, been this way for years. One deal done and not even announced for a player we've been in the process of signing for about 2 years now. One heavily rumoured deal that's being worked on, and nothing much else beyond that.

Last properly busy transfer window we had was probably under LVG with Falcao, Di Maria et al.
We're still waiting for news of Varane signing and apparantly Ole wants Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez who they are, it seems, prepared to sell at a much lower price than originally quoted. Varane would be superb partner for Maguire and Niguez will complement Bruno and our midfield far better than Pogba ever has or will, and now that Pogba has, we're told, rejected a new contract along with a huge, totally unwarranted hike in his wages, we should ship him out to who ever wants him; yes we'll take a finacial loss but will be saving in the long term.

Don't think we're busier than usual, just doing our business early for a change.

Assuming Varanes a done deal...

CM to replace the likely outgoing Pogba
CDM
Attacking Right Back

3 more would complete the squad. However I suspect we're not even in the market for a CDM and will only sign a CM if Pogba is leaving.

Ideally Pogba would sign an extension and we can go all out for the CDM for a world class starting 11.

Other teams are poor right now, if we have cash is a great time to buy. Next year as well I think.

Yeah I said this last transfer window when the Covid restrictions in stadia kicked in, even more so now.

There are some major bargains around, we could really steal a march and close the gap to our competitors if we use any advantage we have.
