And he has less trophies to show for it than our failures: Jose and LVG.
And yet anyone here with an ounce of sense would take him as your manager in a heartbeat if he was available.

The problem with football fans, is that everything is black and white.

You have to look at the whole picture.

Jürgen Klopp has overachieved for the majority of his career.

The ‘he’s won nothing’ thing is so disingenuous. and frankly is used as simplistic get-out in a discussion when you know in reality it’s a limp response.

I’m very confident in saying no other coach could have done what he did with Dortmund or what he is doing with Liverpool now. In his first season there he had Brendan Rogers often dysfunctional, but expensively assembled squad playing in the Europa final, and then got them qualified to successive CL season for the first time in a long time and into the CL final the following 2 seasons without spending a ton of money (less than Mourinho and LVG I'm sure). And to have them going toe to toe with Man City this season is incredible really.

He simply is a fantastic coach, it really is that simple. But he’s never had a silver spoon, he’s always had to fight for it. Unlike some other high profile coaches who have had seasons and seasons of financial backing and the best players. This season with Liverpool is the first time he’s really been backed by significant money. But that was something he earned, by getting them to the CL two years (soon to be 3) seasons running. And even that backing comes on the back of a lot of selling.

Anyway, as you where. It's a bit of a pointless oiriginal post anyway, as of course everyone knew that United did approach him but he decided to stay at Dortmund.

If we’d have had Klopp from 2015-18 everyone would have been moaning about not finishing nearer to the top or winning anything. Same way we moaned about Jose despite him winning trophies and finishing 2nd, because the quality of football was awful.
We’re all so spoilt that we expect not only the best trophies and best football but also year in year out. Ferguson’s perfection cannot be matched. Klopp hasn’t won anything in 3 years, no way people on here would have been alright with that. Pointless discussing whether we should have hired him or not. At the time he was hired we were top

You do know Liverpool have spent more money than any club in world football, don’t you?

Klopp is an annoying cnut but on our side I suppose he would have been annoying to others, not us.

Why go as far back as Klopp, we have just missed Pochettino. I hope we can get him in a couple of years assuming City don't hire him once Guardiola leaves.

We should of done a lot of things.....
  • We should of spent the Ronaldo money better...
  • We should not of waited over half a decade to sign a first team centre midfielder
  • We should of never let the squad get to the point were so many where near too retirement when Fergie left.
  • We should of had in place a better mangement structure for when both Gill and Fergie left.
  • We should of done an intensive manager search ahead off just appointing Moyes.
  • We should have had a better transfer plan in place for that first summer.
  • When things went so badly that first post Fergie season, we should have addressed the structural issues then.
  • We shouldn't have appointed 2 managers with such radically differently styles as LVG and Mourinho.
  • We shouldn't have appointed Mourinho full stop, especially when we did considering he was coming off the back of his Chelsea melt down + LVG had left us with a young squad and Mourinho likes to work with experienced players.
  • We should never have given Rooney that contract
  • We should never have signed an ageing winger to the largest contract in premier league history, which was obviously going to upset our wage structure and cause massive contract issues.
  • We should of invested more money in regenerating Old Trafford, some of the none pitch side areas are really tatty now.
  • We should of appointed a director of football from outside the club who could come in and begin the process of rebuilding the football side of United basically from the ground up.
  • We should of never given the Job to Ole before a director of football was hired, and certainly not before the end of the season.
Basically we should of ran the club better, and yes one of the ways to do that would have been appoint a manager as good as Klopp, but the issues go much deeper and for much longer.

Hard for anyone to not admire him after the way he has transformed Spurs. Brendan Rodgers has the capabilities to transform Leceister like Pochettino did with SPurs. Let see if that happens.
He's hardly transformed Spurs, come on, they were top 4 before he arrived and that's where they still are. He's also won nothing in that time, not even a poxy League Cup.

There is no guarantee he would be the messiah as you try to keep telling us.

Sorry but thats just nonsense, Utd fans would have been happy to build towards a positive future while playing some of the most expansive football around. No one would have moaned!

:( I want to be able to sleep tonight.

Can't argue with any of that. Criminal from one of the biggest and richest clubs in the world.

Ole needs to bleach his teeth. There I said it.
Good point. With the snowflake generation players, it's all about appearance, if you want to command respect. Look at Klopps teeth; flawless. No more proof needed.

put it this way pep and klopp are by far the 2 best managers in the epl. pochettino hasn't had the chance to spend yet. but it's still too early to judge ole.

 their highest finish was fourth and before then they would spend ridiculous amount on players, even moreso than United. Plus they had talented individuals players in Bale and Modric who were way superior than any individual talent in the current Spurs side bar Kane. Their average finish in the league table was 5th place, whereas Pochettino has made their average 3rd. So there was definitely a big transformation then, not only with the structure of the club, but with the performance and mental state. Pochettino has showed that he is what we need at United. The likes of Rashford, Greenwood, Chong, McTominay, Gomes, Garner, Laird, Tuzanbe and Pereira will relish playing under him and they would become even better players. In addition, he would flush out the players with big egos and make United, United again and not a club for players to get a huge paycheck at, while downing tools and playing shite football.

Also who is to say he wouldn't have won anything with us? I mean we had a way better team than pool at that time and while he had to wait 2,5 seasons and loosing his best player to barca until he was allowed to spend big, we could have given him the big bucks right away like we did with Mou.

We would have been were pool are now about in less than two years time. What a wasted opportunity.

Klopp? You having a laugh? I’m guessing you are all basing this on what he’s done for Dortmund because he’s won naff all at Liverpool. I don’t care how many finals he’s been in or that fact that he has already equalled the great manager Sir Alex highest tally of points in a league season yet the guy has won naff all. Hindsight is a beautiful thing

If Klopp looses the PL and UCL this year he would have more backing to continue at Liverpool than at United.

That's why he would work out for less than at clubs like Liverpool & Dortmund.

We should have employed any big time manager after Fergie left. Moyes set the club back years.
true but also Fergie had his part to play with a terrible squad to hand over and the gift of Moyes literally been a domino effect of terrible things one after the other since then.

Seriously? First time Liverpool challenging but likely not win a trophy.

I hope OGS is serious about having a fit team that can press and attack with speed. If what he suggests is true then maybe he will be fine.

People forget it took Klop 3 seasons to play his level of football and it was not cheap.

I actually wanted him during the years Dortmund were at the top of their game, but it turns out he's an unlikable sod, constant excuses touchline antics.

Also, he's better as an underdog, he'd not cope well being at a club where trophies are expected every season, probably the reason Ed's "Disneyland for adults" pitch put him off so much, not that I blame him for that, cos if someone like Ed told me that I'd run a mile.

If we hired klopp, he would have come and gone within the first 3 years. If we hired Pep, he would have come and gone as well. We simply don’t have the right structure in place to enable these managers to be successful and stay successful.

Doesn't matter mate - he has clearly made progress. Have we?

Just because we won a couple of trophies and they haven't doesn't mean a thing. They play exciting football and clearly have a vision. Again. Do we?
Of course it does.

I'd take the trophies we won every single time over 'progress'. Every single time. when we will talk about it in 10 years or more. it'll mean nothing. Nobody will remember, he had a good team and he was in the final of the CL. that's 10 years, more than that well, it won't count at all. whereas we will have a few more lines on our list of trophy won.

There's no right or wrong way of seeing it all. it's just two different views.

Why hire Klopp when we can get a better manager in Pochettino? No point in looking backwards when we can still get a manager that is better than Klopp. If Klopp didn’t sign Van Dijk, his season would have been no different to Brendan Rodgers.
Come on! Is this sarcasm? Klopp finished in the top 4 three consecutive seasons (all but the first one when he came late October), made three finals and two consecutive CL semis and is on the brinks of scoring 97 points, something poch never achieved (never mind he never won the titles Klopp won in Germany as well), not to mention his horrendous away record against the top 6.

The reality is, neither can have instant success here because the problem is deeper and things need to change from the structure, sack Woodward, get a DOF and make many other little tweaks to the way our business and management is done.

You would be right if the trophies were the Premiere or the Champions. Any other title is not better than see the team progressing to a situation of be one of the main favorites to win any competition while playing high level football.

Well we didn't, move on and support your current manager. Same people in here saying we should have got him were laughing and mocking him for years. Thing's aren't going well for United now, it's time to wish for something else. It was Ole at the wheel for a while now it's we should have got someone else. Talk about fickle football fans, fecking embarrassing.

My argument is that he isn’t he best in the world.

I stand by it based on current position bearing in mind club, resources etc., etc.

We missed a trick. Embodies everything this club is about. Instead we've faffed around with managers who were not suited to the club and now we've gone down the route of appointing a club legend. Worked great when Liverpool did it with Dalglish and Newcastle hired Shearer.
We unfortunately didn’t get the timing right. After SAF retired he wasn’t an option, since he had just reached a CL final with Dortmund and he didn’t want to leave back then. Then when Moyes got the sack,he finished 2nd with Dortmund,he was desperate to win the bundesliga again.

It was only in 2015,after finishing 7th in the league that he decided that he wanted a change. But by then we already had LVG I’m charge who had just lead us back into the CL,so the club wasn’t prepared to sack him and go for Klopp.Unfortunately it just wasn’t meant to be....
