Weird feelings of football

International breaks create a time paradox that causes 1 week to feel like 1 month
Wait till next year when they are combining the first 2 for a 3 week international break

Out of interest what are the viewing numbers for qualifiers in those meaningless international breaks, not to even mention friendlies? I can't bring myself watching international football outside of when EC and WC actually starts. Have a ranking system in place and promote some teams automatically to EC and WC and then organize a playoff tournament in the summer every second year for the second ranked teams to qualify for EC and WC and be done with it. Reduce number of games, give players some rest and quality of games will also improve. But the profit will also be lower so forget about it yes?

Interesting. Do you have figures comparing to EPL matches?

Average per game on Sky last season was 1.57 million

Hard to compare Sky with free to air stuff isn't it? Also harder to track down individual match ratings on Sky these days. At one time you could search all the top programmes by channel on the barb website. Live football would normally be the majority of Sky Sports' most watched, with Super Sunday always #1. Now it's just the top 50 most watched across all channels put together that you can see on there unless you're in the industry and pay very expensive fees.

Can still see from the overall top 50s that Liverpool v Arsenal got 2.97m earlier this season. United v Arsenal 2.2m. The Manchester derby didn't make the top 50 that week which means it was lower than 2.15m.

Can also fill in a blank from my previous post that I just found on there - England v Andorra qualifier = 2.42m average

Random other stuff: Match of the Day = From 2.8m-3.5m so far this season on a Saturday night.

FA Cup final 2025 - 3.6m average on BBC + unknown on ITV (less than 2m). Palace and City not the biggest pull.
United v Fulham in the 5th round - 3.8m average
Villa v Spurs 4th round - 3.7m average
United v Leicester 4th round - 3.3m average
Arsenal v United in the 3rd round = 4.8m, 7.4m peak

Carabao final Liverpool v Newcastle Average 6.3m, 7.9m peak across ITV/Sky

That's information overload at this point, some numbers from the various ratings threads from Digital Spy.

This might turn out to be better. 3 weeks break vs the current 4 weeks break (if imagine understanding you correctly?).

Yeah overall it's less, just going to be a long fecking break straight after the season starts

That right footed defenders can play on the left side of the defense but left footed defenders can't play as a right sided center back or fullback.

Ireland and Manchester United are the same team.

Both play the same system. Both have center mids not good enough. Both miserable to watch the past few years. Both sets of fans get excited about narrow defeats against big teams but forget they're not very good at creating chances against the smaller ones.

Yes, I'm being miserable, but I feel both teams are cursed atm. I've seen slight glimmers of hope with United recently, nothing with Ireland.

There are only three types of goals in all of CONCACAF international football:

1. Header from a set piece

2. Scuffed shot from outside the box. Should be an easy save for the keeper, but he lets it go past him into the bottom corner

3. Overhit cross that should present zero danger, but the dimwit keeper comes out to claim it and ends up spilling it into the path of an attacker, who puts it into the empty net

After about 15 minutes of play during every FA Cup Final in the 1980s, the tv cameras would pick out some bloke who had somehow managed to climb on the roof of Wembley to watch the game.

At some point managers got together and decided to replace the word “team” with “group” when discussing football

It is impossible to separate those who played for West Ham and Aston Villa if they were active between 2000 and 2020 and did not go to/come from a bigger club.

Was originally going to write: It is Impossible to remember if John Carew played for West Ham or Aston Villa, but we all know he played for one of them.
Turns out he actually played for both. But I am pretty sure I would have felt this way without his 19 games for West Ham.

Emi Buendia and Youri Tielemans take turns playing for Villa - one year Tielemans plays whilst Buendia disappears; the next year the opposite happens.

Nunos tactics are world class at Midlands clubs but absolutely rubbish in London.
