During the final 20 years of Sir Alex Ferguson’s management (1993-2013) the only two seasons in which United failed to win either of their two opening games were 1998/99 and 2007/08.

Guardiola and Mourinho last won the Champions League not so long ago, but its been nearly 10 years since either of them have won it.

Some guy whom nobody had heard off joining Wycombe Wanderers after a teletext request looking for a player who was not cup tied and getting on in the last few minutes and scoring the winner against Leicester City in the FA Cup Quarter Final.

Gone to bed.
On 12 September 1885, Dundee Harp FC beat Aberdeen Rovers 35-0 in the 1st Round of the Scottish Cup. The referee actually recorded 37 goals to the home team, but the Dundee Harp secretary only recorded 35. In the end, they decided to go with the lower figure and sent this result to the Scottish FA.

This would still be a record for the largest winning margin in a senior football match, if it wasn't for the fact that Arbroath beat Bon Accord 36-0 on the very same day... (italics for effect...wooooh!)

Match fixing right there.

Went on to with the league and CL, should have failed to win the opening 2 games more regularly

Back then I, I'm sure like many other people, thought it would be a race between the two of them to overtake Paisley's record.

After 2009/2010, Mourinho's cautious tactics in big CL matches with Real Madrid, Chelsea and Man Utd have been more of a hindrance than a help. Under Mourinho, Real Madrid were happy to play and settle for a draw away to Bayern Munich (and then try and protect their lead after going 2-0 ahead at the Bernabeu), but under Zidane they were far more proactive and looked to win in Munich.

After 2010/2011, Guardiola has a record of 0 wins, 3 draws and 7 defeats in away CL quarter-final and semi-final matches. Of course it's unrealistic to expect his teams to have won the majority of those matches given the quality of opponents and level of opposition, but it's realistic to expect his teams to have had a better record than that.

De Gea has been at ManUnited for almost 10 years now. Rooney was at United for about 13 years.
It doesn't feel right considering how Rooney joined United in 2004, De Gea in 2011.
Mindblown.

Remove the 5-3 defeat at Leicester in 14/15 and United had the best defensive record in the league that season.

Apart from Solskjaer (1996-2007) and Valencia (2009-2019), have any other players from outside the UK and Ireland stayed at Utd for longer than De Gea? I could easily be missing some obviously names, but my mind is blank right now.

Seems like Silvestre (99-08) is levelled with De Gea for now.

Interesting. I can't think of any either. And I think the only overseas player with more appearances than him is Schmeichel. If we ever finish this season, he'll overtake him too.

Couple of left backs with similar stays though - Evra and Silvestre. Haven't worked them out exactly, but both took part in 9 seasons.

Interesting I completely forgot that Silvestre was a Utd player in 2007/2008 (missing most of it through injury). For some reason I had it in my head that he left for Arsenal a year earlier. So in terms of defenders he spent a year and a half longer at the club than Vidic or Evra did.

The last English team to beat Atlético Madrid in a European knockout tie was Bolton Wanderers in 2007/08 - 1-0 on agg.

AC Milan signed Patrick Vieira in 1995 and then sold him in 1996. They then signed Edgar Davids in 1996 only to sell him in 1997. Both Vieira and Davids flopped for Milan.

God knows how he managed to stay so long, I thought he was awful.

Maldini and Baresi played a total of 196 games together during their careers. In those 196 games played together, they only conceded 23!!! yes 23 goals.

That statistic is for goals scored by the combination of Baresi and Maldini in Serie A matches, not conceded. :)

And it's off by 1 goal because Maldini wasn't on the pitch when Baresi scored here in the 83rd minute...

Struggling to think of any other. Even Evra and Vidic stayed for less. Another weird thing because I seem to remember them staying for much longer than 8 years.
Maybe Pogba, if you include his time as an academy player

Atletico Madrid always have at least one player with long black greasy hair.
