...we need a few English players to sign for Bayern before 2022 !!
It's actually crazy how often Germany reaches the final of a world cup.
Especially three times in a row in the 80's, while also being European Champions along the way is really impressive considering how underrated their players of that era have become.
Obviously Lothar Matthäus and Karl-Heinz Rummennigge are rightfully considered as being among of the greatest of all time on their respective positions, but even they have become underrated I would say. Especcially Rummenigge.
Toni Schumacher is remember only for that kick, which made people completely forget how good of a gk he was, and the rest of that team I cannot even recall.
Perhaps it's the fact that the generation before them (Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller) actually outshone them is what makes these players so underappreciated in the history books, or perhaps it's Germany's lack of patriotism, I don't know, but I remember being pretty fearful of that Germany team full of names I don't even remember now. Holland won our only trophy in 1988, but for us the biggest match of that tournament wasn't the final but it was the semi-final against Germany.
History hasn't been kind to them. Rummenigge won two Ballon d'Ors and has been completely forgotten. It's like the opposite of Zidane, who's legacy only grew after retiring.
