I don't really get Lowe's angle here. Does he genuinely think there's a hunger for US-style gun violence in this country? It's a bit like when Reform thought they could start a US-style culture war over abortion, when it's been a settled issue in this country for decades. I think some of these right wingers are just so fixated on their social media echo chambers that they fail to understand that a lot of the stuff there is simply not relevant to UK politics. 'More guns in schools' apparently works in America but it would be political suicide here.
No, Lowe is/was a gun owner. His paymasters are amplifying him very loudly on any American based online media. He raised a question in the commons recently with all the same angles and arguments that comes in gun ownership debates.

I will give the Starmer Government credit here.
The Tories introduced First Past the Post for police and crime commissioner and police, fire and crime commissioner elections and strategic authority mayoral elections, to try and increase their chances of being elected through splits in the centrist and left wing vote.
Labour repealed that through legislation that was passed at the end of April 2026. The supplementary vote system should mean that Reform don't have a chance in any of these elections.
Interesting one this, given the voting system. My top two will be Green and Labour, but it looks like it wouldn't be too dangerous to put Green top and Labour second. If there were more chance of Reform, I'd have to consider tactical voting and putting Labour first.
Absolute madness that Restore are polling ahead of the Tories though.
Should credit be given to a political party who have simply changed the rules for their own benefit? Applies to any party.
The goal of politics is simply to win power, and then do everything to cling on to it, irrespective of anything else.

I don't like FPTP and want a more equitable system of voting, ideally a form of proportional representation. I understand the arguments in favour of FPTP, but I just don't accept them. Having any government win a massive majority with 20% of eligible voters votes is really problematic for me. British politics has been chaotic since the Brexit vote and FPTP has hardly brought stability.
Moving to forms of PR makes it much, much harder for Reform to win power. I view them as an existential threat to British democracy and I would vote for anyone less problematic to keep them out.
Bank holiday on the Friday? Everyone will have sobered up by then.

Good news however. He’s achieved something…

I checked to see what their record was like under Liz Truss, as there was a good chance they had a 100% record during her spell, but they actually didn't win a match - one loss and one draw in those long 6 and a half weeks in power.
