What’s Real Madrid’s secret?

We've spent more money than them the last 10 years. They've bought good players, we've bought bad players. They don't tolerate bad managers, we do. They get a lot of luck/decisions, feel like we haven't in recent years. They play against weaker opposition than we do etc and so on

What about City do they also play weak teams?

We can't compare ourselves to Real when it comes to the caliber of players they can buy. That's not just now or us. No team attracts as many potential Balon d'Or players as they can. AC Milan and us were making CL finals whereas they couldn't get past the last 16 and they still took Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo from us. They took Figo from Barcelona and Zidane from Juventus. No team can do that. They just have something unique in that area. That's no excuse though as the likes of Man City, Liverpool and even Arsenal to a lesser extent clearly managed to build competitive teams without buying ready made Mbappés and Bellinghams.

Also, it's easy to not tolerate bad managers when your manager works with a much smaller score than any other club in the world, which again, you can do when you have dibs over the very, very best players. The rest of us has to work on systems, tactics and vision to compensate. We really have to stop comparing with them.

Be an impatient arsehole who flaunts your status when youre on top. Thats what Real Madrid taught me.

I went to Madrid to watch the Real Madrid vs Rayo Vallecano game:

1) The fans are absolute knobheads. The guys around me were cussing out Vini all game everytime he did anything wrong shouting "PUTA!" repeatedly towards their own players. When certain players/favorites lost the ball there would be no abuse.

2) Two of the best wonderkids in football sit permanently on the Madrid bench and get no games. Arda Guler and Endrick are great talents but Ancelotti would literally rather play Brahim Diaz or play Bellingham out of position.

3) The stadium itself looks great, especially with the new roof.

4) The opening pre-kickoff is fecking weird. The game starts with opera style singing and gladiatorial-esque music that makes it sound like a political rally or a military parade than a prelim to a football match. Then everyone stands up to sing the official Real Madrid song. Incredibly intense.

It's...not like any other football match I've been to.

I'll never forget them booing a prime Cristiano Ronaldo. There's being demanding, and then there's..... whatever that is. Unreal.

Probably the same as Barcelona's? Paying the referees for consulting work.

Well, tonight it was a good robbery. A good example of how VAR can manipulate everything.
In any case dear friends, remember our victories over City and Liverpool and let's draw a thick veil over this :p
Robbery? What are you smoking mate? The rules are there for something, it doesn't matter if the second touch is slightly moves or not the ball. If you touch the ball two times, the penalty is ruled out. If there's a robbery there, is the handball that was a clear penalty for Madrid. But there's no robbery if the rules are applied correctly.

Yeah because Brahim Diaz is a better player.

10 years ago, they somehow managed to recruit lady luck. It's just freaking unreal how many time they progress or even win the thing despite being the second best team.

They're ruthless.

If people aren't performing then they are shown the door. None of these endless grace periods that we provide.
That's the most important aspect imo. They've set some standards and they keep them.
Also Perez is a mastermind, probably the best president in football history a Sir Alex of presidents if you may. Give them a Woodward and they will struggle greatly.
With Calderon or Sanz they had their issues, but once Perez stepped in, they became great.

There's no doubt that Real Madrid can attract the best players, but we have just as much of a method in team building as anyone else. However, it's true that we don't have a clearly defined playing style like some other teams.
Luck also plays a big role. You need to get lucky with transfers, and Real Madrid has had far more hits than flops. In contrast, United has had almost exclusively flop transfers.
United almost always overpays for mediocre players, which is not the case with the current Madrid team.

Luck. Just like Brady in the NFL. It's their timeline.

100%
Pérez completely transformed Real Madrid from a mess into the best-run club in the world.
However, don’t forget that his first tenure had its ups and downs. But over time, he learned, became more patient, and adjusted his approach. Economically, he has been unmatched—Real Madrid is in a very healthy position and generates strong revenue.
The strategy of avoiding direct competition with oil clubs and instead investing in top young talents has worked well.

This is actually one of my favorite parts about Madrid. They've stuck to being a chameleon of a football team, able to adapt to any game state. Obviously this only works with top players available but it's also why they've always been my favorite side to watch for the past decade. It gives the great players they bring in the freedom to affect the game and solve it on their own terms, as opposed to watching top players go to City and be drilled into systemic submission by Pep.

Also I think the "Madrid can buy anyone" thing gets a bit overblown. They've hardly gone full "galactico" in this recent era of success. Tchou, Camavinga, Rodrygo, Vini, Militao, Endrick, Guler etc. were all bought as highly rated young players as opposed to being established superstars, and they've developed Valverde, Vasquez, Ascencio etc. from the academy. It's really only been Mbappe and Jude as the "super star" type signings they've made but the foundations were already very solid before those two.

I give them credit because a lot of our own fans would be panicking at the thought of some of the fees they've been willing to pay for that top young talent, but they realized quicker than others that it's better to pay a fee that's "expensive for a young player" than waiting for each of them to be "proven" at a big club and pay double or not get them at all. It's something I think our own club is just now getting around to, with Yoro being a good example.

It also helps that most players would jump at joining Madrid.

The history of the club, the stadium and the all iconic white kit.

Ruthlessness and not a single level of standards allowed to be dropped. At Utd, finishing in the top four makes you a ‘great manager’ these days who should be backed and given time. At Real losing 7-0 to your closest rival will get you sacked even if you’re only 3 months into the job. They don’t tolerate incompetence.

Are Real Madrid the Elon Musk of football?

Both rose to prominence thanks in part to nasty, authoritarian regimes and a good dose of luck. Now they think they're above the law.

Despite their success and riches, both are incredibly thin-skinned and selfish. And of course many of their supporters are imbeciles.

I don't think there is much luck involved with Real Madrid transfers. You get the pick of the top young talent due to your status and the absolute top ones obviously will work out more often than not. On top of that every established player is begging for Madrid; buying a Bellingham or Mbappe at 100 mil is better than buying two maybe's at 50 mil.

I think the element of luck for Real Madrid's transfers was the longevity of many of their top players. If it weren't for this longevity they would have suffered more in the periods where the transfers didn't work out as well (2017-2020).

The most obvious example I can think of is that Higuaín and Benzema were the strikers for Real Madrid from 2009 to 2013, until the former left for Napoli. In October 2022 Benzema was winning the Balon d'Or and Higuaín was retiring from football. Second is Modric who is the last man standing of the Modric-Kroos-Casemiro midfield and is 39 years old.

There is no secret, it is just a good run.

And like all good streaks it will come to an end.

It's happened before, it'll happen again.

And all the more so this year that the squad has too many absentees to sustain an adequate level over a long period of time.

Madrid may or may not be able to beat Arsenal, but by pure law of probability they will end up being eliminated by a solid opponent in any of the three next rounds.

You can make it many times or almost all the times. But not always.

I thought you were kidding until I looked it up. We should have one of those.

Nah dude it's too much, their song sounds like some operatic nessun dorma style stuff.

Makes it sound like Jude and vini are about to go over the trenches to charge the enemy lines and this is their last hurrah

Musk rose to power during your beloved Obama. Its more like he will lose power in a few years for messing with politics. Lets not get political here.

Maybe United needs more of that mentality?

It wouldn't be a personal favor to Perez there are way bigger things at play

UEFA would want to keep Perez sweet because of whole Super League. The worse RM do, the more likely they'll push it harder because of the gap in revenue between CL and SL for them...

Mate, they've been constantly wining european silverware since the 50s. If it's luck, than it's the longest luck streak in the history of sport.
Not constantly, I mean, 32 years between cups #6 and #7 and another 12 between #9 and #10

Also, this is why we win
