Not a surprising link seeing how skint we are and Amorim wants reinforcements..
I'm not against the idea provided we get a striker too, how I see it is we either

Spend big on ST and look for cheap CM/loan

Spend big on CM and look for loan ST

Which would people prefer given the choice

Stick with the strikers we have, no need for a loan option and spend the rest on sorting the real biggest issue that is midfield.

Throw all money on striker, rest of the team automatically gains confidence when you have a lethal attack. Get Alvarez.

What does pace in midfield mean though? Physical speed to carry the ball?
Physical speed to make box to box runs?
Recovery pace to get back and cover when we lose possession?

Amorim saying we lack pace in midfield yesterday is one thing, defining it is another.

I’d say we lack recovery pace and the ability to patrol in front of the back 3 in general.

Martinez
Yoro DeLigt Heaven
Amad Wharton Bruno Dorgu
Mbeumo Cunha
Jackson

These are the ones we ‘might’ be looking at, I’d not be too unhappy with this.

Jackson I don’t mind missing out on, move Bruno up to 10, Mbeumo to ST and slot Ugarte next to Wharton.

In this transfer window, in order to have a chance at top 8 next season we would need (after Cunha and Mbeumo):

1. Striker
2. Midfielder (physical DM)
3. Goalkeeper

But if we're going to aim for CL at some point we'll need:

4. CB
5. RWB
6. Possibly LWB
7. Backup striker
8. Another GK

I would say this is the minimum required to challenge for a CL place.

With Mbuemo and Cunha I believe that CM / GK is our next priority. Current midfield options will still get ran through on a regular basis.

No chance of getting Wharton this summer, unless we have complete u turn and go for a loan striker of course

When’s Martinez back? I think him stepping into midfield as the third CB to give us:

——— Bruno
Butcher — Ugarte

Should free up Bruno to make more killer passes. The problem Bruno had last year was no one was making runs into spaces, Hojlund is useless at this but Mbuemo is great at it.

Not sure which striker to get but just hoping for one with great off the ball movement, first touch and hold up play.

Maybe Watkins but not sure he fits the age profile.

Personally I’d love Kane for a season or two

It's interesting that we haven't been seriously linked with many midfielders yet, at least not from credible journalists. It would suggest that the priority is striker-goalkeeper then CM.

Have said it before but Mateus Fernandes is a no brainer for me but if we're going to spend big money on a CM then it would be Elliot Anderson.

This one. Amorim’s attack does not use pacy midfielders, as he prefers wingbacks to advance the ball.

I'm very happy with both Cunha and Mbeumo but to be honest at the start of the window I probably would have tackled other priority positions first.

In my opinion we need a new GK and ST as first priority. After that I'd say a CM.

Again very very happy with the two signings just that I think there are other areas I'd have tackled first.

I rather go all out for a quality midfielder and use what we have as striker.
If Hojilund and Zirkzee have seasons like last year we’d be stuffed. It’s too much of a risk. We all know Hojilund can do it but based on last season? He has no confidence in himself and neither do we or the players.

But with a front 3 made up of Bruno, Cunha, Mbeumo & Amad, I think we’d be fine, and hopefully one of Zirkzee or Hojlund steps up this season.

We dont know hojlund can even do it. Even his 1st season here outside of a 6 game purple patch he couldn't hit a barn door

I completely agree, however we haven't got the funds to push out the boat for Baleba/Wharton this summer

If we can sell both of Antony and Garnacho, we should go all out for Baleba. I would rather sign him for 80m and take my chances with Hojlund/ Zirkzee for another season than signing a Watkins or Johnson for 50m and not signing a CM or an inadequate CM.

If we can then sort out a GK, we would have had a decent summer.

At the very least Lammens, Luiz and Watkins. And hell to the fecking no to Martínez and Jackson.
Lammens makes sense as there's more than a few reports saying we are in discussions with Antwerp.

Personally I'd be fine with Douglas Luiz on loan. Though does he have the "pace" that Amorim said on the weekend that our midfield was lacking?

I could see Utd doing a swap for Nicholas Jackson with Garnacho. But as there are now reports Chelsea are chasing Xavi Simmons, who knows? Kolo Muani on loan would be a good short term signing. Apparently he was very impressive on his Juventus loan stint and they want him back in Turin.

I just think Watkins is the wrong age for the squad building that's going on but what do I know?

That midfield gives me nightmares when I think of it, it has to be priority.

With the less number of games, I think we are 2 signings away from being a top 6 club again. I dont think we get the Midfieler this season. So a ST who can hold the ball up and bring Cunha, Bruno and Mbuemo into play and a a GK who can secure the back.

Too many players there and we really not a selling club. We will struggle to sell anyone in midfield. Bruno, Mainoo, Casemiro, Ugarte, Kone and Collyer are just too many to bench with the less games. Next season with Casemiro and maybe one more gone we can look to rebuild our midfield.

Baleba is going to cost more than 80mn. I suspect he'll cost more than 100mn if I'm honest so not sure we have that juice in our tank this summer - which is a shame because I think he's the one available player I think would be a REAL needle mover and propels us towards competing for a league again.

Possibly. I think he is worth 100m to us.

At this point, I'd rather see us sign a quality CM and GK. The ST market is abysmal (missing out on a £30m Delap really hurts) and we can play Cunha and Mbeumo there if we need and we have lots of 10s that can do a job if they go up top for some matches. Shoring up the spine of the team along with the 2 excellent forward signings, is progress and will get us back top 8, I would say. Can progress again next summer looking for the ST. Also, Zirkzee might be a valid option to combine with Cunha and Mbeumo; better than Rasmus.

This club's insistence on neglecting the midfield for what feels like approaching two decades now is baffling
