There are millions of threads of Ole in or out and analyzing the match etc. This is not that forum. I would like to discuss what the fk Ole is actually doing tactically. What are they coaching, what are they planning on the training ground, what is the vision. Im completely frustrated at not knowing what he is trying to do.
From what I can tell this is Ole's tactical thinking.
Formation - 4-2-3-1
Main Tactical plan - get the ball quickly and hit the front players quickly. Try Hollywood passes into the front and rely on world class or very top players to pull it out of the bag which we do a lotto be fair.
Defence - Mainly Maguire and Shaw to push forward. Maguire to run out with the ball when he can and hit long balls or try and get to front 3. Shaw attacks on LW. The other CB Varane/Lindelof and WB are more conservative and try to cover runners.
Midfield - He prefers two defensive 8's in midfield. Players that can press quickly. Get the ball and lay it off to preferably a Pogba/Bruno who quickly hit the front 3 with pace. Or pass back to Maguire sometimes Lindelof/Varane who can hit long balls to the front 3 quickly. Basically McFred. Pogba and Fred are good there so they can get the ball and hit passes quickly better than McFred. Which is why Pogba works sometimes against certain opposition. But both players have to adapt their natural game. Both need to be more defensively disciplined. No triangles or passes between the spaces. No holding on to the ball or trying clever flicks. Yes you Pogba. Dominating midfield, controlling possession etc is not the plan.
Attack - Do some Hollywood sht. Make runs behind for long balls if there is space.
Is that it? If you take that as the blueprint then you see the reasoning for the substitutions. Dalot for Sancho was just to cover the RB. Donny off was to move Pogba to midfield so he could hopefully pull a world class pass and get Ronaldo etc in and to get Varane on so we could sit back and take the pressure waiting for the Hollywood pass since we already and given up the midfield. Matic and Jesse were just us giving up and playing for a draw. Jesse partly so he could press more than Ronaldo and there was a slight possibility he could make a run behind and score a late winner.
The other question is if this is the Ole blueprint how far an we go with it. Can we win anything?
