With intergalactic space travel now easier than ever thanks to Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, the question on everyone's lips is "where will the first football match in space be played and whom will play?"

It's a question we get down at the food bank all the time and for good reason, the game is growing too big for one planet that's on the slide if climate change is to be believed.

So who should kick things off?

If this is us the fans that go to the matches shouldn’t go in protest against the Glazers and the lack of Halaand.

It will have to be an exhibition because of the gravitation differences. Or maybe they can wear space boots and use a heavier ball on Mars. I'm thinking around 2025. It will be FC Manchester Spacedragons vs. FC Liverpool Uranuses.

Surely El Classico? But I guess it isn’t what it used to be so… PSG v Man City because I heard plastic holds up pretty well in space.

Lots of applicable sayings from Total Recall can apply to this future timeline:

Cohagen, these people need players!

See you at the training ground, Richter!

Play out from the back, free Mars!

Two weeks!

Golf has already been played on the Moon.

I would guess the first Mars settlers will kick a ball around and technically be the first football game on another planet.

First actual teams from Earth to play on another planet? It’ll be 100+ years in the future if we haven’t destroyed ourselves by then. It’s a stupid question but also kind of interesting in a way.

A few of our games this season have looked like the players are on another planet.

Robots on Mars

(or)

Bots in virtual reality. We already treat players like robots anyway, so might as well take the next logical step and simulate football physics perfectly in the virtual world and have them duke it out.
