What would be the perfect Transfer Window for our rebuild?

I think we'll get a mixture starting XI players and squad players, most of who will be multi-functional, too. This is something that both ten Hag and Rangnick, especially, likes to have. Having said that, I do think we need a specialist holding midfielder, whoever that may be.

CB - Goncalo Inacio - 30M
CDM - Boubacar Kamara - Free
CM - Frenkie De Jong - 60M
RW - Raphinha - 40M
ST - Richarlison/NKunku - 50M

Great shout. I also read in news this morning that Mukiele will only cost 10million. Would be the bargain of this window if true. He can play RB or further up as a RWB.

Forget about them. We are far off. As long as we get ourselves back on track first, we can worry about catching up to them in a couple of years as that isn't our competition right now.

There's always other quality players out there and more ways to catch up. For now we just have to worry about ourselves and growing however we can, and then when we're close, then start worrying about them. That's the reality of the situation.
They're laying the foundations for unmatchable success for the next 5-8 years though. Signings that are at the edge of being world class and u23. Even SAF wasnt really this proactive.

Another thing is that With Diaz, Jota, Tchouameni, Konate, Carvalho, Ramsay.. Klopp is on his way to potentially building his second team and it will be almost seamless.

I think we'll sign 2 players for the starting 11 next season and not rush into spending a fortune, as we have done in the past. I'd expect 1 midfielder and 1 forward/wide forward.

I suspect we'll see a few of the younger players coming through (Hannibal/Garner, hopefully Garnacho and Laird) and part of the requirement on ETH has got to be getting more out of the existing team, primarily Maguire/Shaw/Rashford/Sancho, those 4 playing at their best and we're a different team completely.

Its another year of transition but the starting point for me is looking at what we already have and turning them back into footballers, we absolutely dont need a whole new team, we just need our players to remember how to play football and put a shift in and actually break sweat again.
I think we'll end up with more than 2, but agree with you point about getting the best out of players that had been playing to a high standard before. My concern is that Maguire has been sooo poor i'm not sure he can mentally recover from it while captain and under so much scrutiny every game. Rashford looks lost, and given the constant stories being publish about him wanting out/wanting a new contract its hard not to think his PR machine would be another distraction we could do without. While Sancho didn't set the world alight this season, he had good spells where he looked like the player we hoped to sign and hopefully under ETH's system he will flourish.

The positive thing for me so far under Richard Arnold is there is relative silence on the target front, so hopefully we can start to operate more quickly and without as much attention as we have in recent seasons. Elite clubs don't always make a lot of noise and Liverpool for example complete signings so quickly their reliable journos aren't reporting it until hours before its announced!

Disagree with pretty much everything you said :houllier: Of cource we will sign more than 2 first teamers, and we absolutely need almost a whole new team if we want to fight for the title next to City and Pool. Some of our players is good enough for top 4 when they are at their best, and a couple is good enough for the title. Its not gonna happend over 1 transfer window, but 2 players ? come on mate. Hoping a bunch of young players coming trough like the class of 92 is also naive. When a player is good enough he will be a part of our first team, just like always. I have my hopes for Garner next season, but not much else.

Agree!
If we are definitely losing
Matic
Mata
Lingard
Pogba
Cavani
Greenwood

and probably getting rid of;
Jones
Bailey
Dalot
Martial

we are still left with dross;
Telles
AWB
Mctomminy
Linderloff
Maguire

signing only 2 players will get us relegated!

I think you guys may be disappointed with our summer business, at best sign 3 starters i suspect, but i'm conditioning myself for 2.

1 thing i can guarantee is that we wont sign a full new team and we'd be daft to do so, we havent got the finances for it for a start. I fully expect to see at least those 3 highlighted next season in plenty of games, rightly or wrongly.

First window he should just put the money on De Jong, bring Van de Beek back and see what he could do to improve the rest of he squad. Then, in the next window, it would be clear who can play his style and would be cheapier to sign spefic players that are really needed, not only names to please the supporters. This is what Liverpool do. But of course people would not like it, especially with City buying the world.

3 is 50% more than 2 so thats a start  Personally i think we will sign 4 + 1 random talent for cheap. Out of those 4, 1 might be a free transfer like Erikssen or Kamara. Nobody said a whole new team over 1 window, but over a couple of years i expect our starting line up to be 80% different than the shit we play with today. They are simply not good enough, period.

I don't think we will see a flurry of incomings, and I wouldn't want that no matter how bad the current crop is. We do ultimately need a new starting XI but we can't catch up with City and Liverpool in one window or even get close.

This window we need to address CB - Maguire has been so bad I don't see him as an option any more, Varane has his injury problems and the others are average. We have needed a CDM for a long time and with Matic going this is a "must have" so no matter what we do I hope we see a CDM arrive. We need an entirely new frontline but that can't happen right away. If Ronaldo stays first choice can be Sancho on the left and Ronaldo as ST. That leaves me thinking a RW would be the best option this window. It leaves Elanga and Rashford covering - which isn't good enough but it's where we are.

The more you think of it it's a massive daunting task we have a long road ahead of us if we are ever to challenge again and all this first window can be is a small tentative first step. CB, CDM and RW would have to do for me, see how things go and maybe make a Winter signing once we see how the players are adapting. My expectation is that they won't as they're just not good or motivated enough, but at least we can see better where the most urgent issues are once Ten Hag has had more time with them.

Can we move forward without 3 signings? (a CB, CDM and RW or other combination?). We might have to!

DM - Phillips*/Kamara
CM - Haidara/Eriksen
RB/CB - Timber
RW - Antony
ST - Nunez

* If Leeds get relegated i think he'll be nailed in as you'll get him for 25

Big worried about lack of links to midfielders, and the ones we have been linked with are very likely going elsewhere.

Kamara, likely going to Athletico
Laimer, likely going to Bayern
Tchouaméni, likely going to Pool or Madrid
Phillips either staying at Leeds or going elsewhere, because of rivalry
Rice is not possible this season, as it would blow our entire budget.

As a bare minimum we will need two midfielders. One DM and one CM. Fix the engine room and hope for improvements elsewhere.
Rice is way too expensive. Tchouameni will be taken by a CL club.
Kamara could be an obtion on the free if he fits the system of ETH. Otherwise no idea who.
Next a striker as we cannot count on Ronaldo for the entire season.
From the news Nunez might be willing if we pay the transfer. And he could play on the left when Ronaldo is in the center.

After this: RB.

Regarding CB: I would actually like to see how the ones we have turns out with ETH and the right DM to cover.

With City signing Haaland and Liverpool signing Diaz in January, we’re already further behind. We can only hope Murtough is laying the groundwork to strike fast in the market when ten Hag finally comes in. It’s such a decisive and important summer (we say it every year), but this time it really is when you consider the number of players leaving. Those players available on a free won’t be there for long either.

I hate transfer windows. It should go back to the days when transfers could happen during the season. It‘s a creation of the media so they talk shite for six weeks especially SKY. United are linked with enough players for two teams and I always say I won’t believe player X is joining the club until he paraded in a red shirt at Old Trafford.

Report suggested that the players leaving on a free are releasing £50m that will be added to our transfer budget. Add our average summer budget of +/-£150m and player sales:

Pereira: £5m
Bailly: £10-15
Jones: £10m
Henderson: £40m
Martial: £25m
Tuanzebe: £10m

That would give us roughly £300m

With this in mind I’d be looking at 6-7 signings:

RB: No idea of possibilities, maybe Timber?
CB: one of Pau Torres, Inaçio
DM: Kamara (FT) and Laimer
CM: two of Rice, Tchouameni, Tielemans, Phillips, Neves
Forwards: two of Nunez, Nkunku, Richarlison, Antony as well as Rafinha (If Leeds go down)

Total budget I think would be anything between 120-170m. I hope so atleast.

Must sign

2 full backs - would love Timber and Cucurella (60-70m)

2 Midfielders- would love Tielemens and Tchouameni. Also Eriksen on a free (70-90m)

RW - Antony/Raphinha (40-50m). Wouldn’t mind Dembele on a free if he is up to it and signs for the right reasons.

Striker - Not one outstanding candidate. So whoever ETH prefers.

Have to cover all these positions to give us any chance next season. If the budget goes above then try to fill 1-2 positions with freebies like Eriksen/ Dembele/ kamara.

Tielemans and Tchouameni are not realistic transfers for us. Sadly. The rest maybe (I don't think Dembele would like to come here unless we offer him crazy salary)

Love this place, even half of your targets have all excelled in different types of football that would result in the same disjointed squad we currently have.

Please no, with his attitude problems and motivation issues we need to steer clear and go for system players that don't appear to value themselves above others.
I completely understand your point, however it's been reported that Dembele has somewhat overturned his attitud problems and has started to be consistent on the pitch. However there are other free options to reinforce our attack such as Belotti (instead of Nuñez and use that money on a winger as in Antony or Nkunku), or even Dybala, Bernardeschi. We do need numbers and quality

I get what you are saying but I really do want us to come away from a lot of those big names, Antony or Nkunkuwill cost big money and I don't think Dybala or Bernadeschi will suit the PL..

Terrier has had a good season but I would hope our scouting network has their eye on someone, I don't tend to watch a lot of the South American leagues but there's always a gem popping through there every few years

£20m gets you precisely feck all these days. Tuanzebe is a CB with potential so I’d think £10m was fair for him.

Jones for £10m…OK you might have a point there but if a PL team wanted him you’d have to add PL-PL tax and English player tax.

Logic has never prevailed when we are selling talent.. you won't get £10m for both

Maybe I'm not as tuned in as I used to be in regards to who is out there, but I really don't know who (within a realistic budget/likely to go elsewhere) would do a decent job for us.

Pau Torres has looked good each time I've seen him, but wonder if we need a tougher CB to play alongside either Lindelof or Varane. I think Abidol does a really good job at providing Torres the platform to excel.

Bissouma always looks good, but what's going on with his court case? Rice is too expensive and I doubt we'd be Phillips' first-choice - there'll be loads in for him if they go down. Shame that Ndidi looks like injuries are starting to plague him, I don't really know who would be a standout option from overseas.

Striker/wingers - if it wasn't for his links to City, I actually think Jesus would be a good shout and could fill a few roles. Darwin I'm really not sold on, and would ideally like to see another season of him before moving for the prices quoted, although we may be forced to move this time around. Antony again looks good, but it's so hard to gauge the Dutch league it seems.

Obviously I'll support whoever ETH goes for, but I can't remember another summer where there were so few obvious and viable options for us out there. Could be a blessing, but I fear we're going to be left wanting whilst others get their business done early.

Going by reports and dream land, spending on De Jong, Tchouameni and De Ligt plus adding free players like Kamara and Dembele would add massive quality at a good age with players that need to prove themselves and with faith in the manager. We would also then need a striker, so maybe Nkunku.

We will spend a lot, probably our record ever spending summer.

Muppet mode activated.

DDG
???- Varane—Torres-Shaw
DeJong -Tchouameni
Nkuku———Donny——-Sancho
Nunez
I’m going to be broken when we don’t sign Nunez, Nkuku and Tchouameni. I can live on if we miss out on Torres and DeJong maybe even Nunez but if we don’t get Tchouameni and Nkuku I may never unzip ever again.
I think you’d better invest in a trouser lock

1) Majority of the dross out both ability/performance/attitude wise. There are over 15, but 10-12 out at least

2) Seven In - LB, CB, RB, DM, CM, RW, CF

This is why I feel we should steer clear of any of these big name signings of £70m+ this sumemr like Kane, Rice, DeJong, Nunez, etc if we do have a nudget of around £200m, any such signing batters out ability to make the required number of signings. We have to compensate for maybe missing out on the best option for the overall progression and growth of the team this summer.

We have to find the next ones on the line on the cusp of breaking through at reasonable prices. At the same time we cant just make value signings, they have to have quality and the right mentality. They do have to still compete and improve our first eleven. We improve the quality of the first eleven and squad we are then in a position to make a big signing or two next summer.

Been a few names I am not sure actually improve on what we already have and want to get rid of and a whole host of players I dont even know.

Two names now off of the potential list which is sad is Livaramento with his injury and Caqueret after siging a new contract, think both were quality players around £30m that already improved on what we had with a lot of room for growth.

i havent seen enough football in leagues such as Holland to know many of the lesser known players we are gettign linked with. Only really watch the big sides bar the French league the last couple of years.

Some of the names I have seen enough of to think we should be con sidering in terms of ability, intelligence, attitude and value woul dbe:

Gusto
Kamara
Bissouma
Doku
Ekitike

All players I think would be £25m or under and we need 4/5 of those type of signings.

Think we need 4/5 signings of that ilk anyway.

If we are to make big signings, then they should be £45-60m, dont know Timber, Antony well enough, not seen a huge amount but not massively impressed with Nunez.

I really like Fofana but feel it would take a Maguire like fee, the three names stand out for me purely in terms of being on the cusp of big things, not at huge clubs and with world class potential ability and all young, would have to be

Sulemana
Gvardiol
Giouri

Would personally prefer anyu of those over names like Nkunku at the same price
