Their owner isn't allowed in the Country. Has shelved Stadium plans. Whispers that he isn't willing to throw funds at the Club any more.

They've been successful over the last 15 years, but they've still always seemed capable of a quick collapse like they're built on quick sand.

Chelsea fans, what's you take? Are you concerned?

Former Chelsea chief executive Trevor Birch says if Roman Abramovich doesn't get a visa Chelsea face the prospect of no stadium, no manager and no star player.
Not everyone is so confident

Why is he not allowed in the country? Has enough assets in the country and not some economic refugee?

Perhaps the natrual order of football is slowly correcting itself, back to the pre Abrahamovic Chelsea days. First Chelsea will fall, then in a few years City will tumble, Liverpool will continue to yo-yo between 4th and 8th and Spurs will fall back to their true level of the Newcastle’s and Everton’s.

United under Josè and Arsenal under Emery duke it out for the title and the cups...

They're financially independent now. They'll have spending on par with Arsenal and Liverpool now, which is enough to challenge for any trophy if the funds are used right.

I just wouldn't expect to see any future talents chose them over other big paying clubs. Or any 100m marquee signings unless they sell first.

It's part of the anti-Russia crackdown following the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal on British soil.

The proposed new stadium is many years down the road and may now not ever get built. Even if construction starts, they face the prospect of playing their home games at Wembley (or wherever) for 3 long seasons.

Even worse, the club don't own the current stadium, and even the name "Chelsea Football Club Ltd" is only licensed to them.

On top of this they owe well over £1 billion to Abramovich, their sugar-daddy funding is drying up and they may well lose some of their best players this summer .. players who don't relish playing in the Europa league.

All in all, the club's in pretty dire straits.

Dire straits? Chelsea cancelled the plan to build a new stadium, they still have a current one. In fact, spending 1b to build a new stadium that could only add 20K seats is economically unsound, so a blessing in disguise. Chelsea doesn't have to sell any of their players and in fact can afford to buy new players if they feel like it, because the debtor Abra isn't going to force through a pay back. Should Abra lose interest in the operation of the club and stop sacking their manager every 2 seasons, it would be a big problem to all of us.

Whenever we think about them this way, they go on to win the league. Maybe not this time around, but we should never write them off

Theyve been spending well out of their means, they owe ambramovich £1 billion personally. So if he does pull out and doesn' write off a large part of it i think their spending is going to be quite hampered for the forseeable future

The name is owned by Chelsea Pitch Owners (CPO), who also own the stadium land freehold. The name is licensed back to the club on condition that the first team play their home matches at Stamford Bridge. This means that should Chelsea move to another stadium in the future, they would not be able to use the name Chelsea Football Club without permission from 75% of CPO shareholders.

They don't even own the land on which the current stadium sits.

You don’t half talk some waffle..

As if the name is an issue the fans of the club own that license and will always act in the interests of the club.

The club has been very successful over the time since Abramovich took over and I mean success as in winning leagues and European honours (not what spurs consider success) if he were to sell his hand would be bitten off.

He can get a visa to visit the UK, but not a visa to work unless he answers some questions on the origin of his wealth. As a result he is not happy to invest in a country where he can’t work. Long may the toys exit the pram!

I initially thought this was nothing but it seems as though some at the club are starting to show concern. All down to Roman really. I don't buy that if he pulls out there will be no noticeable changes though. The club and fans will definitely see the effects and they won't be positive.

So bearing in mind the money owed to Abramovich, and the many obstacles to building a new stadium, how much is the club worth do you think?

The hire and fire culture is one of the best things off the Roman era.

Look at what happened to Arsenal and to an extent United when they held on to managers for too long.

One of the world's most famous clubs, in the richest league and in the country's most exclusive area...Abromovich would have no shortage of offers.

Try telling that to Glaston mate. He’s already decided that they’re pretty much going out of business - talk about premature ejaculation!

Sure, the new stadium being put on hold is an issue but since when did moving to a bigger stadium guarantee more success. It’s not helped Arsenal who were far more successful in the final years at Highbury. It’s not doing much for West Ham so far. Spurs are going to be hamstrung for a fair few years (looks a fantastic stadium mind), and it was doing fook all for City until we got an owner who pumped loads of money in (although if we stayed at Maine Road, we might not have been as attractive a proposition for Mansour to buy us so I guess it’s served a purpose in some way)

Yes but the club is probably worth 2bn. He could sell it which could be bad for the league considering there are plenty of Chinese billionaires that would snap up Chelsea. Not to mention, it's only time before Saudi Arabia decide to try football to clean their image.

As a Chelsea fan I'm not to worried regarding the Visa issue with Roman, it's just petty politics and money always talks and Roman is ridiculously rich. I'm pretty sure that would be sorted soon

The thing that concerns me as a Chelsea fan is on the football side of things, we don't seem to have a clue on what we are doing. The problem for me is our board is filled with business people, there's no person on that board that truly understands how football works and has footballing background.

We had a shocking transfer window last year, our transfer dealings were absolutely horrific. We loaned out RLC and sold Chalobah for 5 million and replaced them with Bakayoko and Drinkwater who cost almost 80 million. We also missed out on almost all our first choice targets and went into complete panic mode. There seemed to be no clear plan on what we were doing.
We also went into complete panic mode the Summer before but got lucky due to our panic signings in Alonso and Luiz turning out to be good buys and being able to get Kante on the cheap. Then you have Mourinho's last season with us when we failed to sign our first choice targets and started randomly trying to throw money around, we also made a huge mess trying to sign John Stones and completely failed trying to sign him.

I could be totally wrong but I feel Marina Granovskaia is a big problem for us right now. Our problems with transfers and everything else seemed to start when she became Chief Executive. I've heard stories that she's notoriously hard to deal with and goes about things with an iron fist.
While she's shown she is great when it comes to selling players and brokering sponsorship deals, she's also shown that she doesn't have a clue and appears to rub people up the wrong way when it comes to signing players. Like I said before in this post, she has literally no background in football and no experience or understanding on how it works.

Right now we have no idea what's happening with Conte, we still have no idea who our manager will be and we've made an absolute mess with this Sarri situation that could potentially be taken to court. We just seem to be making an absolute mess out of anything we try to do

Oh yeah, we still haven't even got a DOF either

Reason he’s trying to build the stadium isn’t cos of seats. Increasing the value of the asset for a massive sale. Quote me.

Yeap. Strange business model and org structure. Lego-like mindset that you can plug in a manager and things aren't suppose to miss a heartbeat but it does. No lessons learnt. As its almost groundhog day.

It's about time things went wrong for them. Since Abramovich bought them it feels like no matter what they did, no matter who they signed or sacked, they'd land on their feet and continue winning trophies.
