When was the last time you were successful in an away ballot?

Appreciate this might belong in the ticketing forum but feel it deserve a wider audience.

My uncle has now applied for a ticket for the last 50 away games and not been successful in one ballot. There appears to be a similar issue with many others.

When I was going more regularly, I applied for everything and only really got midweek cup matches when there was a big allocation.

What are other people's track records and do we need to look at the process? Do we need a points/credit system like Euro aways? Do we need a collection system?

What does everyone think?
 
Wolves in August 2021. I've applied for around 15 away games since then, but I've had no luck.

In 18/19, I went to 5 away games in one season. My success rate was well over 50% back then.
 
Burnley 2-2 in January. One of the games Fletch was manager. Sesko 2 well taken goals.

Nostalgic journey up by train, through Bolton and Blackburn.

Burnley is a kip (sorry, not sorry)
 
It’s obvious the ballot isn’t random, but other than the loyalty pot how does it work? Ridiculous system

I don't think it's obvious - some people get lucky, some don't - simple as that

The club has been trying to kill off the loyalty pot for a while now which would increase chances for all standard ST holders

It just feels mathematically impossible for people not to get tickets 20+ times consecutively and therefore must be operated on some other basis.

We once got 7 in a season including Leeds, Everton, City and Villa, that was the 1st season after COVID, since then we get around 1 or 2 a season last year we got Sunderland and Newcastle, this year we are 2 for 2 being chubbed

Mathematically it's absolutely possible - even 100+ chubbing in a row is possible, although less likely

The club have been pushed to be more transparent on ticketing data and they are again releasing info about away apps



Note there is a typo on Loyalty Pot in at @Cheeses of Nazareth tweet (690 v 390)

That's interesting.

I don't think there's gonna be a completely fair system but there should be some reward for people who apply for every away game.

As I said above, a points/credit system might be the away forward.

Apply - half a credit
Apply and attend the match- full credit

10% to loyalty pot

40% of ballot goes to random people within that have say 10 credits (including what's left of loyalty pot)

40% of ballot goes to random people with say 5 - 10 and anyone left with 10+ credits

10% of ballot to all eligible applicants

Opportunity for people to get on the ladder and again, provides some reward for applying for every game. But also rewards those who have been regulars for years.

Nah that's a terrible idea - you are giving an extra reward of a credit to those who get lucky in the ballot, making it even more difficult for those who don't. Your uncle will never get a ticket ever again !

I think the majority who are interested in aways probably apply for all of them - especially in the current system which allows you to forward the ticket on or return to the club if you can't make it
 
Think last I got was Chelsea last season which wasn’t that long ago compared to some. Unsuccessful in all so far this season.

I know this won’t be a popular opinion , but Ideally I think that forwarding of away tickets should be banned. If you can’t attend, returning to the club should be the only option with them reallocating to someone who was unsuccessful in the original ballot. Another thing I would do, although I am not sure how this part would work currently as tickets are issued by the away side. I think they should be device locked to the same phone as your season ticket. I think then you’d see a dramatic drop in applications. Part of the issue at the moment is mass applications using the accounts of people who have no intention of attending.

You could also maybe have things like an away ticket guarantee if you are unsuccessful in ten consecutive ballots.
 
I would be interested to know how many of them loyalty pot tickets end up being sold for ridiculous prices each game.
 
I've never understood how football tickets work in Europe.

Can any random person not just get online on a site like Stubhub and buy tickets to whatever match they want?

As an American supporter, if I want to make a trip to Old Trafford, is it really difficult to get a ticket?

For away tickets it's pretty hard, if you're not successful in the ballot you need to know people and the club are closing off a lot of those avenues.

For home tickets I'd say use something like Sports breaks they normally have game tickets with a hotel package you'll pay over the odds but you'll guarantee a ticket, there is no stub hub or anything like that available for football matches
