Which 2 midfielders would you prefer we sign ?

Bouaddi and De Cat both seem to have lots of potential, but I think you'd only take one player of that kind of profile as a 3rd midfielder, mostly for cup games initially, behind 2 slightly more ready players. Mamadou Sangare has the potential to become a generational player, he is that good. We'd have a player from midfield that can carry the ball forward and cause havoc. He could even pick up ball from wide and take on defenders. Only slight weakness is perhaps his height and he isn't that short so shouldn't be such a big concern.

I really wouldn't mind Siltanen and Yirenkyi. Dragojevic I have not seen at all. But Kees Smit I don't understand the hype. looked good in the youth tournaments and hasn't pushed on. I think he has had injuries though.
 
I have only seen Sangare on YouTube and if he stands out in a good physical league playing against men and his technique is sound then for me if the price is right it is worth serious consideration.

Because a player who downs tools isn‘t going to cut it at MU.
 
We need 3 at least. Anderson is my first choice, not sure beyond that if I am honest. Another established player to be in contention to start and then a player that will provide reasonable cover.

Ke was so poor on the ball in his time at PSV. Unless he has improved 100 + % technically he's not good enough for United

That is how I feel as well. Anderson and someone else who I hope will be able to score a few goals.

Yeah even if he never plays for us has earned legendary status for that hattrick against the financial dopers. Surely if they want Rodri and Stiller then a couple will have to make way at Bernabeu for it to happen
 
Elliot Anderson. Man Utd have to get back to being the team that signs the best young English/British talent.
Then maybe Bruno G.
 
Assuming Anderson is going to City, Wharton and Joao Gomes would be my two picks. That should leave enough money to get a quality LW and Lewis Hall at LB. Maybe even a third CM.

No way we sign Gomes as a front line CM, he is someone we should consider, if Casemiro leaves and we have signed two starters, for a squad role. Wharton seems to have the same intensity issues as Mainoo but he is a potential great passer who could grow into a role should we have a physical monster to partner him so maybe Baleba and Wharton but that would cost a bomb.

Ideally Matheus Fernandes should be our Anderson alternative and he could be gettable at around the £60m mark which enables us to get another top midfielder in plus a fullback. I think we could do Fernandes/Scott at circa £60m, Balaba at £80m, Gomes £50m and a left back for around £30m. Sales and CL football help us to balance the books.

I appreciate I may be in the minority here but I would rather we signed 2 CMs and a quality LW than 3 CMs and no LW. Gomes has the tenacity to cover ground next to Wharton. I also wouldn't mind Matheus Fernandes but I feel like you may be optimistic with the 60m figure IF West Ham avoid relegation, as they only signed him last summer for 45m.

Forgot about that fact, him and Gomes could be the most financially feasible duo for us, if we want to address LW and LB in the summer. I don't think West Ham could turn down a £20m profit either so circa £65m - £75m would do it. Gomes and Fernandes make sense financially but can they really up our midfield in terms of control, on the ball?

Because ideally you would want a duo that helps to recover the ball but one that can play too, pass teams to death if they have to. I worry about Gomes on that aspect.

But given that we would need to spend about £120m on a LW and LB too I think such a conservative move would be the best way forward because you could spend about £120m on Gomes and Fernandes which could cost you £240m to bring in Gomes, Fernandes, Diomande and a Left Back.
 
I haven’t seen anything from Gomes that makes me think we should get him. I‘d rather take a punt on a younger squad option.

If we could bring Camavinga in on a loan with an option to buy like the Spanish and Italian clubs always want to do with us then I’d be all for it because when fit and in form he’s a beast BUT him being fit and in form isn’t very often it seems so shouldn’t be bought unless he can prove his fitness and form.

I love the idea of Camavinga but feel the reality just won't match, I would jump all over a loan should it be an option but I reckon if we were to go in for him his price would somehow double.

I mean, i don't think they'd let him go on a loan, but if we can get him for like £35m+, I'd go for it. We really need to stop spending top prices for players that're not wanted by their clubs ffs. Some might laugh at the £35m price but, how many is going to spend more on a player thats on bench, and been used as a left back and injury problems?
 
There's 2 ways of doing this:
  1. Replace Casemiro with a defensive player & replace Ugarte with a box to box player that can provide competition both in Casemiro's & Mainoo's positions but it leaves Mainoo as our only true passer in midfield unless we use Bruno Fernandes in an emergency.
  2. Or we buy competition for Mainoo by getting a playmaker, buying a direct replacement for Casemiro and then keeping Ugarte as back up whilst raising up Kone to the first team. This gives us 3 players covering Casemiro's Position whilst having 2 creative players covering Mainoos Position.

I really want a playmaker type player like stiller, wharton or Camavinga, but well rounded box to box players like Bruno Guimaraes, Fernandes, Anderson have that passing ability already that can compete with Mainoo because Mainoo isn't an amazing passer anyway.

So it will be likely we look towards option 1 and is why we maybe looking towards letting Ugarte leave.

Option 2 would require Ugarte to stay for an additional year whilst we get rid of Mason Mount who is more useless, unavailable and has been replaced already by Cunha at the club.

It's an interesting chessboard the board will be dealing with this summer. I have no idea what our transfer budget will be, but I'm going to assume 200m on the low end and 300m on the high end. Let's assume 200m.

If we agree on these two targets, and many would disagree, should we spent 175m of our 200m on two midfielders? I say yes, but others argue a LB is a real priority. I get that, but we should be able to find a decent LB (Dorgu for me a is LW who can do a job at LB, not the other way around) to hold the fort with Shaw (last season, I think) for about 30m while Amass grows from boy to man.

I think we will spend something around £250m gross and possibly look to whittle it down to £180m after sales. So £175m on the midfield would leave us with £75m to use on a left back and one more position, maybe a left sided attacker?

Won't this be a bit too light weight off the ball? I think we need a true DM to come in and play alongside Anderson, should we win the race for his signature.
