Couldn't find a thread that focuses on this.
Chemistry, understanding and cooperation between players is more important than individual strengths. Clearly, if the players are that good, then it's even better. Our great sides have plenty of it. Some:
Yorke-Cole
Bruce-Pallister
Giggs-Scholes-Keane-Beckham
Beck-GNev
Beck -> Ruud
Rooney-Park
Rooney-Tevez-Ronaldo
Scholes-Carrick
Vidic-Ferdinand
Evra-Vidic-Ferdinand-Brown (VDS behind)
Scholes -> Evra
---
The squad with Mourinho left much to be desired - the often counter attacks broken down when our players misunderstood others movements and then mispass, lack of good movements when attacking, key players doesn't combine well with others, etc (some of those probably has to do with not enough attacking training drills). Player injuries, inconsistent form and constant tinkering doesn't help either.
Still.
Who else? Funny how certain names come often, and their good combo is clear on the pitch, but they don't play that much for all kind of reasons.
Some chemistry between players takes time to develop. Some just don't match well at all. Some just clicks straightaway.
It's been 2+ seasons now, and we still don't have a clear picture of our consistent best starting 11, while our rivals do, and their players that regularly play starting 11 have good understanding.
P.S. I do aware that some players who doesn't combine well with others will still brought a lot of things to the team, overall.
Would like to know difference of opinions. How important is player combinations?
