Which signings from the past 10 years would've suited Amirom's system?

CB: Varane
CM: Fred
LAM: Di Maria
ST: Martial

Other players, I'd like :
13-16 Antonio Valencia
15-22 Luke Shaw
14-18 Chris Smalling
13-18 DDG
17-19 Rashford (the fast dynamic version, not necessarily the most productive version we had)

---------------------- De Gea
-----Smalling --- Varane ----- Martinez
--Valencia ------Ugarte --- Fred ------- Shaw
----------------Di Maria ------- Rashford
--------------------------Martial

Fred + Ugarte give you the legs you need in the middle of the pitch to press and harass teams through the middle. We've had better midfielders than Fred and Ugarte (Pogba, Bruno, Matic & Casemiro for 6 months, Herrera arguably) but I value high energy and pressing in the midfield two more than anything else for this set up. Kante for example was vital for Chelsea's teams that won the title under Conte and then the CL under Tuchel.

Martial, Rashford and Di Maria give you pace to break on teams. Bruno at his best was arguably our best attacker post 2013 but I value pace more.

Ideally I'd want a faster CB than Martinez for the LCB channel but a left footer is also important. There's a case to put Shaw there but there isn't a better LWB option, and Di Maria would be too vital to drop from the forward positions.

Smalling & Varane are probably the most comfortable defenders we've had defending against pace and both were very good in the air. That's important in this set up, especially with Martinez at LCB.

Romero
Varane - Bailly - Blind
Di Maria - Herrera - Fred - Sancho
Pogba - Mata
Ibrahimovic
Wing-backs are probably not the best choices defensively but shocked I'm the first person to say Mata.

Mata came to mind also, but then the second 10 would be someone like Depay or Di Maria

Others have already said this, but Cavani has to be in the eleven. I would give a lot to have Cavani, even the one we got, in the team right now. Running and pressing machine, and he was still able to get goals consistently.

Given what Amorim is doing to Rashford, Sancho and Pogba would have got a far more severe treatment and really don't think they'd mentally fit in. Varane would have fit into any team had he not stayed injury prone. Bailly, oh my!

Pogba, Martial, Lukaku possibly pre-bulk. And then obviously ADM who would have been unbelievable in this type of system with his versatility.

James as a wingback might have worked funny enough. Fred would have gotten a bunch of minutes. Varane.

Funny enough Sancho might have fit but knowing what we know now I'd never include him.

—-darmian-Smalling-blind—

Valencia—Herrera-Matic—Kagawa

————-Pogba—mkhtiryan——-

——————Zlatan/cavani———-

Herrera more than any other
But also could see Dan James, Mata & Zlatan.
Think maybe also Smalling would be nice in such a system.

Zlatan and Di Maria spring to mind …also Pogba, though doubt he’d have lasted very long with Amorim.

Romero
Darmian - Varane - Blind
James - Fred/Matic - Herrera - Telles
Mata - Di Maria
Cavani

We've signed a lot of very talented players the last 10 years. You could easily build a much stronger starting 11 than what we can put out.

Romero
Varane - Smalling - Bailly
Di Maria - Herrera - Matic - Shaw
Kagawa - Pogba
Cavani

I was always convinced a player like Kagawa would absolutely thrive in a system like we have now, but was never gonna thrive in a 4-4-2.

Honestly, I am not sure there are that many that would improve us based on what we have.

Cavani / Ronaldo / Lukaku / Ibra would definitely be an improvement over our current #9s.

Pogba - great skills but would he run like Amorim wants everyone to.

Sancho - same as above

Di Maria - not sure if he would fit positionally.

Matic - a younger Matic for sure but he was already lacking in legs when he joined us.

Varane - probably be a good RCB but thats not a big worry for us at the moment.

Fred - good workrate but got beaten too often.

A fit Shaw and Mount can probably help us a lot but they will never be fit.

prime Mata would've been good for one of the n.10 roles, Blind would've been good for the LCB role with his excellent ball distribution.

prime Matic would have been brilliant in the C/DM role.

Based on their peak at united:

------------------Onana------------------

-----Bailly----Maguire--Blind-----

Darmian--------------------------Shaw

-----------Herrera-----Matic---------

------Mata----------------------Pogba

-----------------Ibrahimovic----------

Honorable mentions: Dalot (RWB), Ugarte (CM), Martial (CF), Cavani (CF), Bruno (AM)

This team would have been title challengers.

Which signings from the past 10 years would've suited Amirom's system?

- Only include signings since 2014
- No current players i.e Shaw, Bruno etc.
- Based on their age/form when we signed them (so you probably wouldn't include Scweinsteiger, Ronaldo, etc)

I'll give it a go

----------------------------Romero--------------------
---------------Varane----Bailly-----------Rojo
Darmian------Herrera----Schneiderlin-------------Blind
---------------Mkhitaryan-----------Di Maria---------
--------------------------------Lukaku-------------------------------
Naaah....I don't see Bailly working in a system that reliant on the CBs making good calls about when to be aggressive. Rojo didn't have the required skill on the ball. And I struggle to envisage Blind running end to end on the flank for 65 minutes, never mind 90. Alsi, Zlatan a better option than Lukaku IMO.

Sancho is the most suited player we have on our books for a role we currently have no ideal player for. Perfect inside forward.

Technically but I don't think he would ever have the intensity in his game to be a serious success in the PL.

Certainly not if he keeps being asked to play in high intensity roles. I think the inside game is a smaller game where he could theoretically succeed. The outside game he has been expected to do requires hard running both ways and is not suited to his strengths. His strengths lie in this specific role I think.
