I was thinking that Ten Hag is bound to be impressed by someone who we're not necessarily expecting, as have previous managers. Mourinho with McTominay, Elanga and Ralf.

Who could be a candidate to get a surprise inclusion in the squad next year?

Maguire.....
Not a 'surprise' but I do agree that Ten Hag will like him more than we expect. When in form, he has everything that Ten Hag seems to like in a defender.

As for a surprise, I think Martial will stay and get more games than people expect.

Everything? Hes not a bad defender when on form but everything he is good at is the opposite of Ten Haags style, hes not a ball player, hes slow, cant play a high line. Hes physical and good aerially.

I think Martial though also, thats a good call, Rashford, Bruno etc arent great at retention in their style so will find it hard to adapt but Martial looks better in possession teams i think

I've had enough of him and won't spend a minute thinking about it if he left. But I think Ten Hag will want to try him before losing him (especially as I don't think they'll get any serious bids) and when Martial has been at his best, it's been when United have adopted a more free-flowing passing and attacking game.

I keep in mind that he was starting games for France about a year ago, so I just think Ten Hag will want to see if he can get a tune out of him first.

I find the 'Laird' votes a bit confusing. Seems he is currently benefitting from the same 'not being AWB' syndrome that helped convince some Dalot is a good option at RB. In reality, AWB is miles ahead of Laird, who struggled to get games in the Championship last season.

I think if there's to be a player to get more game-time under ETH, it's bound to be Hannibal - purely because it's reaching 'crunch' time for him now, if he's to kick-on. There's nothing to be gained by keep playing u23s football, so if he's going to be good enough, he needs minutes sooner rather than later.

If we're talking about a player the last manager(s) didn't fancy but ETH might bring in from the cold, then I could see someone like DvdB fitting that bill, for obvious reasons.

Martial maybe. If we don't sign any other forward, surely he'll be getting a fair amount of chances. He has the talent, but if Ten Hag can get him motivated on the pitch, I suppose he could be the surprise factor.

Safe to assume that he will give plenty of minutes to players we have written off completely.

Which will lead to outrage and meltdowns.

And that will be fun to behold.

(Provided they turn out to be useful, that is.)

I still think there is a player with Martial, if he can buckle down and put the effort in (although he's not done that before) then he could even play himself into the World Cup squad with a serious run in the team. That's got to be his aim if he's got anything about him.

McTominay.
Probably, somehow. He’s been a key player for 3(?) managers now, they’re obviously seeing something the rest our eyes cannot decipher
