Who will be United's big signing this summer?

All this talk of Kane is ridiculous. I actually think we're more likely to go after Dele Alli, but I'd much prefer to take Eriksen or Dembele off Spurs' hands.

Realistically, we're probably looking at the foreign second tier players from the likes of Dortmund, Monaco, Inter, Roma, Atletico etc

It could still be Greizmann. Although his obvious preference is staying in Spain, I don't see how he fits into a Barca starting 11 with Messi, Dembele and Suarez.

Suarez looked like he was going to get benched earlier because he wasn't scoring but he's picking it up lately and is still way too class to be on the bench to make room for AG.

Also can't see them benching Dembele when he was their big money marquee signing last August and the 'heir' to replace Neymar

Ozil, so we can have value in our market.

Tbh United need a top class player to play on the right wing area. None of the supposed players who might be up for grabs and we're linked to are the type or style of player we'd need for that role. Jose likes specialists, so will be interesting as to whom he goes afte. I expect there will be the usual meltdowns on here as its not the big name some expect. Just like with the anti Matic brigade last summer, as he was past it, blah blah blah.

Jose sounds quite sure some big transfer is happening, he would not say like that if it's difficult case. Dybala from Juve would be really difficult to get. He have many years contract left and he would cost like 150 million. So i would guess it's Griezmann. He maybe was coming already last summer before Atleticos transfer ban and he have 100 million buy out clause in his contract. I would say he's the most likely choice.

Having a clever midfielder next to Pogba like Eriksen, Lemar or Koke could really improve our attack. Martial should be our LW and we just bought Lukaku for a huge fee, so it wouldn't be that crazy to ignore the attack, hope one of Rashford or Lingard can make the leap at RW and buy a Mkhitaryan replacement for cheap (Ozil on a free or Lucas Moura seem the likeliest) and spend our money on that aforementioned creative mid and a fullback or two.

Depends once again on wether we qualify for champions lge ( and by no means is that a certainty ) we should be buying a couple of good quality squad players in January to give us a strong finish to the season .
No champions lge and you could certainly rule out the likes of Griezman , Dybala or Bale

Considering this is a World Cup year, it might very well be that United buys one (or more) of the players who will absolutely shine during the tournament - someone who might be totally out of the loop now

Yea, see, I don't buy into the whole we are broke and can't compete with city and PSG, bs. So I do mean "Signings" needed.
We're obviously not broke, but we can't compete financially with state funded clubs over the long term, it's simply not sustainable. They have an almost unlimited supply of funds, whereas most, if not all the money we spend comes from the club's revenue.

It's nothing to do with thinking the club is broke, it's that it's run like a business, I don't think we'll ever see a summer like PSG just had or Madrid had in 2009 where we pay 2 enormous world record level fees in one summer.

Even if we get Lucas Moura, it has no bearing on who we get over the summer. Moura who I think has immense potential and could be even better than what Willian was under Jose. Either way, I think Griezmann is going to be first choice considering we've tried to sign him before. If not for him, we may go for either Asensio or Dybala and Ozil is probably our last option. With Zlatan leaving, I'm going to assume that since we've had dry patches of not being able to score goals, he's definitely going to get someone who will score goals and share the burden of scoring with Lukaku. I think Timo Werner will have a terrific world cup for Germany and will perhaps end up at Madrid which is why I think we should sign him up prior to season ending.

Yea but it's not impossible to expect 300M to be spent one of the summers, or near it. 2X 100M ish and A 50-70M ish. Unlikely but not impossible. If it were to be the 250-300M its probably going to be on 5 players. 1 medium or big value signing (as you suggest) and the rest more affordable the likes of Maguire or other prospects of quality for around 30-50 depending on the duration of contract remaining. Who could turn out to be quality buys, to be fair. So it's not as bad as it sounds. As long as we have the homework done and are sure we are buying quality.

The real issue is more obvious than it initially appears. There is feck all available. If AG, as expected goes to Barca, is there anybody else, really? Kane? Alli? Dybala? Lemar? Moura? Ozil? Fabinho? Kroos? Ronaldo? Bale? Milinkovic? Perisic? Mahrez? Umtiti? Asensio? Belotti? Sessegnon? Sandro? Tierney? Dendoncker? Willian? But are any, would be real stars available or interested in us. The others might be just those who need us more than we need them

The way I see it, the player pool is spread too thin in England. You have 6 very strong sides and for me, that's just 2 sides too many. So while Wenger keeps fecking up and Poch seems to not be working his magic this season as good as the last 3 so... As Mr Kane says, win things or I may be off. AT THE MOMENT these are the 2 sides who are poised to miss out on champions league and there is no doubting that if they slip now. It could be a while before they could bounce back.

Sanchez and Ozil's quality will not be easy replaced with. And well, with much bigger wages and champions league on offer elsewhere and Walkers success at city obvious to his old club mates. I think they will be tempted and it's going to be a tough summer for Spurs. Not only to hold on to their squad but also to attract top players themselves.

What I am thinking, will not be linked on there but I think could get us over the line to better things. It would clear up the picture of what's exactly needed and it's a little field but most importantly would not cost us the earth. So while it's a risk we would be taking. It would be one with little or no outlay. I would sell Darmian Fellaini and Mkhitaryan this window, Raising 40-50M. I would buy 3 or 4 players. As much a signal of intent as it is plugging up the gaps and clearing up an issue or 2. I'd buy
Ozil, 29yo, 10M
Dendoncker, 22yo, 20-24M
Mahrez, 26yo, 30-40M Cl avail
Mora, 29yo, 20M.
I wouldn't normally have Mahrez anywhere near us but last 6 weeks he has been playing well, has his head down again and is back playing well. Plus, is champions league available. We have Mata and I think Mahrez is a faster quicker thinking maybe not as skilful but he can also play a killer pass. Ozil in case Mahrez is a flop and Mora for genuine width, To play alongside and hopefully replace Matic one day. It's a net outlay of 40M. But the real idea here is to be ruthless and if things are not going the way we want to, shift on and replace with like. If any don't work out in a playing style that fits us, get rid fast.

I would then move heaven and earth to ensure Fabinho and whoever this top target Jose mentioned are confirmed before the end of March and signed up to arrive in the summer. Then shift on more deadwood. If any are the new signings should recoup and exceed the price just paid.

Ozil will be our big summer signing.

Then a midfielder to replace Carrick and a right winger if we don't get 1 this month. Is going to be crazy difficult to buy players this summer.

Dybala would be the absolute dream, but won’t happen. Especially not for less than a world record fee, probably.
I have only watched his Champions League games and he was average in all of them. Also neither Barca, PSG or Real have expressed interest in them when they were recruiting. Is he really that good in the domestic league?

Mahrez is one player that is attainable this window if we are ready to cough up the money. I don't understand why the big clubs don't rate him. Imo, he'll be perfect for us.

Probably a midfielder if both Carrick and Fellaini won't be part of the club for next season. Not sure who though.

Bale, Grizbala, Fabinho or Bale, Saul, Ozil. Will accept nothing less to satisfy my inner muppet.

I like him too but he’s shocking off the ball so maybe that but like you I think he’d do well at OT very similar to a Nani that we lack but he’s only slightly better than Mata imo and not in quality although much better suited to that position we struggle in what Mata occupys when starting.

He's done well in the CL too, especially considering Juve's attack basically lives or dies with him. His performance in the first leg (?) against Barcelona was phenomenal, ran the show.

Ozil, Bale and one of Milinkovic-Savic or Jorginho in the summer and I'd go to muppet Nirvana

Jack Wilshire on current form could be the signing of the summer on a free if he can stay fit next season. Jose would be creaming himself if he could get Ozil and Wilshire for free from his old nemesis

So you want Wilshere and Bale. Are you the United physio?

Van Persie couldn't string 2 games together without pulling something for years yet managed to stay consistently injury free in his later years....Giggs too......Robben too...It can be done. Worth the risk in some cases

I think we'll spend 200-250m and buy 4 players.

Out: Fellaini (free), Carrick(retires) and Mkhi (20m-25m)
In: Bale(60m) and Griezmann (100m), Rose (40m)/Sandro (50m) and rest on a CM (maybe Jorginho) or a CAM (Ozil -free)

We extend contracts of Blind, Mata, Herrera, Shaw. Pereira comes back
So 250mil plus Ozil for Free and maybe Jorginho for 50-60 - so over 300mil in total.

And you want to sign 2 top class LB's (Rose/Sandro) AND keep Shaw. So LB options would be Rose/Sandro/Shaw as well as young/darmian/blind/rojo. How many LB's do you think we need!?

Also notice the RW hasn't been addressed - so shall we go another season with playing all of our AM's out of position?

Cant see your prediction working out I'm afraid

I think we need to step away from the "one big marquee" signing.

Pogba was a big addition, but we haven't got the best out of him yet.
Lukaku was essential as we had no striker.

I think we need to focus more on getting the balance of the team right.

We need a RW and a CM desperately. Jose may ship a few he doesn't fancy, Miki/Shaw/Darmian being most likely and we have Fellaini/Carrick with contract/retirement plans.

I think our incomings will depend on the outgoings.

If Shaw goes, we'll get Rose. Is Jose keeps faith with Shaw, no Rose.

Giving whats available and Jose's preference, I think we may get Ozil and Bale. Bale would fill the RW and if fit is in the bracket of best 5 players in the world. Big risk, as injuries have played a part for Bale for 3-4 seasons. Could be worthwhile skipping, but I think Jose will go for it. Ozil is free and is an upgrade on Mata/Miki/Lingard for AM. Again, not my best pick but what I think Jose will do.

Personally, I think we need to play Pogba higher up. He looks more dangerous when further forward, it doesn't work when he plays deep. So we need a DM/more natural CM. Goretzka on a free is an absolute no brainer for me.

The Griezmann/Dybala talk - I cant see either really. Have no preference, just don't want the rumours to rumble on all summer. Either do it quick or dont

The window closes before the season starts, the time between the world cup finishing and season starting is like 4 weeks. Players who participate in the world cup get 3 weeks off after it.

We really screwed ourselves as a league with that decision.

It's a hyphen rose/sandro- one of the two!

Also, remind me again in which position does Gareth Bale play?
