Van De Gouw. I recall an immense game against Arsenal where he took a knee to the face. May have been the game Keane scored twice

Best #12 candidates will often be either sentimental ones or hypothetical ones.

Sentimental ones:
Les Sealey - played in THAT final and the n that other one.
Ray van der Gouw - seemed such a thoroughly nice fella
Sergio Tomero - such loyalty, NT keeper with a WC final, chosing to be dead cert 2nd fiddle for us for 5 years.
Paddy Roche - had such a cool name when I was a kid, unfortunately let in 7 in two games once Gary Bailey became injured.

Hypothetical:
Jimmy Rimmer - never saw him for United, but he became a very good keeper at Villa and CL winner.
Victor Valdes - one of the ten best in the world and suddenly he is our back up keeper?
Dean Henderson - is going to be our back up and England #1 any day now (maybe)

From the ones I’ve seen play much, I think both Van der Gouw and Romero have played at a surprisingly high level for being back ups, and managing the part of coming in from the cold and deliverinf at the required level time and time again. Romero edges it for me, having played steadily and well gor Argentina behind a sub par defence Many times against high end opposition.
