Why do commentators always say it's good for a defending team to score first?

I have heard this a lot over the years when a game is stagnating and one team is defending deep playing in the break .

To me it makes no sense and only the opposite happening would improve the game and make it more end to end

I've only heard them say the opposite in terms of the spectacle of the game.

Usually it's in the context of a stronger team vs a weaker team on paper. When the stronger team gets their first goal and the weaker team needs to leave space behind, it tends to result in thrashings.

The game gets more interesting when the stronger team unexpectedly concedes a goal.

It certainly isn't good for the game when a Mourinho team score first.
