Why do we have a meltdown today?

It was shit boys and girls. Ultimately got the 3 points but I do share the sense of concern for us atm. We're way off it in pretty much every department - and the boys do not look properly drilled.

Because people have short memories and think that we used to win every game under Fergie 4-0 with exciting football and 80% possesion

its just a default reaction these days. People choose to overlook how often other teams grind out these wins through a season, or how often we did it under Ferguson. We used to say that these were the types of results that win titles.
Yeah but at this stage of the season when we were winning titles scraping past West brom 1 nil wasn't our best home result and performance

Why today?!

Have you seen the display we put out tonight?

Sorry excuse for a football team we are. Lack of coaching, lack of grit, lack of strategy, lack of leadership, lack of any kind of progress.

If fans were allowed on matches, you'd see a "Simpsons whole town tar and feather aftermath".

I would have started the riot myself.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
Because this place is toxic as feck. Moderators seriously need to look into doing something about the pathological moaners in here.
Yip.
I’ve stopped coming to the caf recently and I feel a lot better for it.
Me too.

I especially don't miss the "then you're a top red aren't you" tools.

Three points after a disruptive international break was the priority. Job done.

Tonights performance was broadly speaking below par, and not very entertaining to watch, but we shouldn‘t forget the Everton game before this one where we were outstanding.

Winning when you play badly is vitally important. We do need to play better more often of course, and the evidence exists to show we can.

Yes United's performances have been fairly lacklustre, but we all knew it would be a tough start given the fact we played the Europa tournament so close to the start of the new season.

I think we'll start picking up some momentum in the Christmas period and have a much better second half of the season.

We're only 4 points off the top of the table teams. It's not a time to panic

Fans on here do themselves no favours. Its a very unhealthy place to be where only a very comfortable victory is enough to prevent a cacophony of complaints.

There is a very large emotional area in-between euphoric joy and utter fury, but those seem to be the only available states of mind for 80% of posters on here.

Its really quite ridiculous to have this type of reaction after a win. There is fighting going on between our own fans in every single thread. Its becoming an asylum.

I rather watch other teams at this point. There's no fun here

Spot on mate. The journey is the fun part. There is no football being played after a trophy is won. I think even if we won a trophy the negative views would still be there as it wouldn't be good enough to win it just once, or because we didn't win against the toughest teams on the way, or because losing would be better longterm because the manager is trash. Things like that. It's just not enjoyable for these people to watch football as they can't even use it as an escape, it's more like a trap for perpetuating a state of crisis.

It's always funny to hear negative fans saying "I wont be lowering my standards". Being in a state of utter fury for the foreseeable future is really something that will help the club, and probably bring a person forward in life as well. Great standard to set.

Its amazing to hear so many entitled fans here who keep talking or moaning about 'United's standards.' (I have been a United supporter for nearly 45 years.)

What it does indicate is that they started supporting United when United was in its prime years ie the Fergie Years.

They have no clue or history when United at best for several decades, were a cup side. The years of chopping & changing managers -- Tommy Doc to Dave Feckin' Sexton to Rompin' Ron. We were always a cup side -- buy the most expensive players/breaking transfer records nearly every year and yet, cup sides. Ole is trying to build a platform for the future.
There will be inherent growing pains -- its like building a startup company or life in general. Its never a straight line.

So whenever they talk about lowering my standards, it really reflects on when they started supporting United. Those who have seen through the ups & downs of United's journey over the years know not to use such pejorative phrasing.

We won the game with clean sheet, got ourself 3 points, moved to 9th with only 7 points off the top table but with one game less. The Ole out boys and the double pivot midfield haters aren’t happy that’s why :) and we have bunch of those in this forum.

Tottenham only managed 1-0 win as well against WBA and the goal was from set piece while Chelsea had 3-3 against them. Strange to have meltdown considering other top teams also had scrappy & lucky point against them.

Because we knew we had a good chance of doing so therefore it was much easier to accept.

Yeah, this confuses me as well. I mean, we as fans dont really set any standards since we have almost zero impact on how the club is being run or what happens on the pitch. We're just along for the ride really. Being unhappy with playing like shit or thinking the manager is not good enough? Sure, but this is not like picking a restaurant to eat on.

I think a lot of people view this as some kind of transaction. They give support and expect good football and results in return. I get it, Sky are greedy bastards and we all pay a premium to watch United on the telly, but that does not really mean we also can demand swasbuckling football and great results. One argument that often gets brought up is how we are apparently too big to fail. Do you think Liverpool fans at the end of the 80's could have imagined they would go three decades without another title?

Growing up as a foreign United fan i always had rival supporters tell me we were all a bunch of glory hunters and it pissed me off. Turns out though, they were somewhat right because we do unfortunately have a couple of those

I can see why there is a meltdown. Ole said we had 30 mins to prepare and it was obvious. It’s harder for us as we are a pragmatic team. City, Liverpool it’s pretty much the same approach every game.

However I’ll take 3 points today gladly. Southampton is going to be unbelievably difficult for us.

Funnily enough I think is we had Pogba and Greenwood on the flanks today we would have performed better as they are naturally more adept at holding onto the football and playing without instruction.

I think there is a lot of projection going on with some of the folks.

So you think? I don't, this was a terrible performance
Look around, nearly everybody in Europe are playing like this.
Maybe its because ive repeatedly said its going to be a shitshow of a season because of the schdule but my expectations arent that high. We just need to win these games.
Jose said he had to prepare for the City game without the players, Ole said his first tactical work for Wrst Brom happened Saturday morning.
Its an abhorrent season.

If not for some sloppy finishing we could have won this 4-1.. Tottenham, for all the praise they've got recently also beat WBA 0-1, albeit away from home...

Rename this place to moancafe. But seriously this crap we are served every other week is not what pulled us into supporting the club.

Well Mr bagginses. I think it's a reflection of the mess the club is in. But it's pretty much the Internet as a whole is now. It was much better when it was just nerds using napster and sharing pokemon game boy emulators and roms. Or spending 10 minutes downloading a poorly shotoshopped image of Sarah Michelle gellars head on a porn stars body.

But I think to suggest we used to call yesterday's performance the sort you win the title off is incredibly disingenuous. I mean it is, if you're top on a good run and you squeak past a shit team with a dodgy win. But yeah, that's not us at all. First league win at home all season. Completely papers over the cracks and people are right to say that.

I haven't been into a topic other than this one since the match so I can only imagine the reaction has been severe in both directions, but if we're all honest we are currently less than the sum of our parts and it is baffling.

I'm in a few what's app groups with other united fans (because I'm so bloody popular in real life) and one of the guys in one of them said Rashford is like Henry one week and Ralph milne the next. Sort of how our whole team is really.

The point is, it wasnt that bad. I think everybody should expect to see a bit of a collective vent after a defeat. If it helps the emotional basket cases to feel better then have at it.

Thats not where we are now though. Its only a great win that brings some calm - and hell even thats not always the case. We've seen the 5-0 win against last years CL semi finalists picked apart by some if it suits their agenda. "Yeah we won but they, like, definitely had some of the ball sometimes, so....."

For me, the reaction to last night's games was that it was instantly forgettable, we didn't play very well, but thankfully we got the win. Anyone over 20 would have seen this game a hundred times before, and will do so again.

Because we are sick of watching this expensive and pretty good team playing like shit.
Because we are sick of watching defensive football and defensive lineups against every team no matter how that team is bad.
Because it is obvious that we don't have bright future with this so called coach.
Because we play boring football.

This type of thread would be valid if a manager was two months into a stint, joining the club mid-season with no transfer window, and we just had a bad performance

However this manager has been here two years, had four transfer windows and had games like this for the past year or so. I don’t think it’s kneejerk if people are making valid points that it was the same as last year and that we’ve seen games like this before with this manager.

It means that manager is not learning from his mistakes and if he isn’t learning from his mistakes a year later then you should question whether they’re good enough... just like any form of job ever.
