Why don't we win penalties anymore?

Don't forget Richard Keys saying this year (January) last season "At least 20 of Manchester United’s last 33 penalties are debatable" Pulled up these statistics, but oddly enough didn't show any actual penalties

He and Andy Gray have been constantly talking about the "bias" in favor of United over the last 2 seasons, without any substance to their argument. Chuckling about United getting "yet another penalty" as they watch a United player clearly get fouled in the box on their screens feels comical at times.

It's been going on for a while now. Hopefully Referees would look to make amends and start giving us a few.

We've got penalties in our last 3 games against Villa, Bruno's scored them all

We'll get one tomorrow, Ronaldo will take it and it'll be saved/missed

Anybody got the stats for before and after Klopp's tantrum?
Had a quick look here and surprisingly the before and after is not that different - 6 in the PL up to that point, 5 after.

We had 14 the season prior, which is where I think the rep for us getting lots of pens had been built up.

The total number is irrelevant anyway, high or low - it's about how many we've had that we shouldn't, or penalties we should have had which we have been denied. I definitely noticed a marked change in the calls we were denied after Klopp's comments.

Yeah I said this would happen at the time. There was a massive push from opposition managers and since then we have gotten absolutely nothing.

The worst thing is, supposed United fans on here were also using it a stick to beat the manager and some of the players, and I said at the time, be careful what you wish for because we'll end up getting nothing soon enough

Thing is there used to a plausible excuse as reasonable doubt back in the day and you can deal with it, now its just plain cheating with VAR available there really is no excuse to not at least look at the situations the west ham away ones were laughable, comically bad.

The match at Old Trafford i could see from the stands the clear drag down on Jesse.

Ole needs to put pressure on the referees the same as Fergie did back in the day, fines or no fines. This shit cannot be tolerated.

Do we not have to give Klopp some credit here? Exploited the media's bias, used the referee's weakness of being accused of anything untowards and has weakned a rival by doing so.

Mind games success.
Not really. If the media is biased in your favour, then it is easy to say all this.

For example, now after Ole said this, the media can write a report on stats showing that United's penalties have indeed dried up and bring up some decisions which were given before in season and not given later.

Or

Media can spin this as Ole insulting the refs by calling them getting influenced by manager talk etc etc., and then turn the refs completely against us in coming games. Also spin this as Ole looking for cheap excuse for his loss in Carabao cup.

The media drives the narrative in the country and refs, FA everyone are influenced by media perceptions.

guess what angle ESPN took even when they had the stat that Klopp's moaning seemed to have had influence on the frequency of penalties United got?

Its not about the amount of penalties but about is it a penalty or not.

Stupid refs thinking if giving lots of penalties is a bad thing. You are there to make sure the game is as fair and smooth as possible based on whats happening, not stats. Idiots.

Yes but they don't do news, only hype. This is the angle that gets more clicks.

ESPN said we would get relegated in the 19/20 season. That’s all you need to know about them.

How many clear cut penalties will we get denied today?

I’ll go with 2. Defenders know now that they can stop us in the box by any means necessary.

We're really suffering for that initial run of pens we got aren't we?

A big reason we got a lot of penalties before was because of the profile of players we had. Rashford, Martial and Greenwood all had quick feet and the ability to entice a foul. With Bruno constantly feeding them into feet and the trio having quick link ups, we were constantly drawing fouls. As soon as you introduce Ronaldo or Weghorst you can forget about any interchanging and linking amongst the front 3.

The link up play between Rashford and Martial hasn’t been what it used to be but then they haven’t got to play much together either and Martial looks miles off it.

Yeah, this is largely true. The only one we have currently is Garnacho and he should’ve gotten a pen vs Saints

Probably because they look at Weghorst and Martial in the box and think "ah I won't even bother trying to tackle him, he won't score anyway"

Ironically, Weghorst was kicked against Forest and didn't get a penalty.

It's a media story if we get a penalty so easier for a referee not to give it.
Not my words by the way, a referee told Shaw this.

People literally never talk about it if we don't get given a blatant penalty, so easier just to not give it.

Sancho, Antony, Martial and Weghorst is your answer.

If you're slow as feck or have slow reactions you don't put defenders in compromising situations so that rules out Martial and Wout.

Sancho does everything at half pace and is slow so there's no temptation to dive in to challenge him in the box.

Lastly, Antony is probably the most predictable player in the league. The only thing he does in the box is shoot. All his skills are pointless and he does them away from the box.

Doesn’t help that Rashford got into the habit of diving and now he doesn’t even get legit pens

You constant hate of Antony is pathetic for a new player to our team.

Our players need to be shot in order for the referees to give a penalty. I remember Zouma cleaning Ronaldo out last season and the McTominay one at Crystal Palace this season where stonewall penalties were ignored. It's just incompetence at this stage.

Penalties are directly proportional to the time spent in the opposition box. I'm sure we'd be in the bottom 3 in that regard.

We’ve also had about 5 of the clearest cut penalties turned down this season which certainly helps the statistic.

Often because as soon as we can shoot, we do. We don't do much work in the box to help create a really good chance.

I'll be honest I haven't disliked a player of ours as much as him, I don't like his style of play and antics. Maybe I should be easier on him.
