Will Liverpool’s 19th first division title influence United’s transfer plans, short-term or long-term?
The United board may have already identified a few transfer targets and will buy one or two players in the transfer window, irrespective of Liverpool winning the title. The ongoing pandemic will probably limit transfer spending, but this thread is not meant for any COVID-19 related, or usual transfer-market related discussion. A few posters may even suggest that Manchester United need not spend anything and the current squad is good enough. While I appreciate those view-points, this thread is not for that kind of discussion either.
I am interested in exploring a different dimension. My question is simple - will Liverpool’s 19th first division title have any bearing on United’s transfer plans? Will the Glazers/Ed/Board be hurt to see Liverpool inch closer to the 20th title and thus be tempted to spend a little more than usual? Or is there no scope for any sentiment in the day-to-day operations of the current Manchester United? Is the board downright frigid? In the last couple of days, after Liverpool won the title, the print-media is giving me an eyesore, and it is equally impossible to watch the TV. Surely, a few influential people on the board are as hurt as the average supporter is. Or are they?
