Good player. Possibly should have signed him in 2013 before Chelsea did.

I think he's great. However he's 30 in August so I don't think we should aim to get him for what would be a high price.

Had good energy, made a few dribbles and a solid shot. Nothing special but he improved a lot on his early time at Chelsea.

I don't think he's anything special whatsoever but he's a damn hard worker and he comes up with big goals.

He is very good player. For a winger his end product was very poor but in the last 2-3 seasons he has improved a lot in that front.

Superb shot from distance and a very good acceleration with very good crosses. Looks like he is happy with squad player role too.

Glad we didnt buy him because it might have blocked Lingard. However, he can actually play on the right wing and that would have given us alot more balance.

He was everywhere in the first half yesterday, and seemingly running past our players at will. Brilliant 45 minuets from him... it dropped in the second along with the rest of the Chelsea side but yeah, still a very good performance.

He is like that bunny in duracell ads. His acceleration is just superb and gives him very good advantage from any position, more so when he just takes one on one after standing still.

For everyone who is asking, there is the interview that Mourinho gave us yesterday praising Willian, putting faith in the Brazilian National Team in Russia, and of course speaking of the victory over Chelsea. Oh, and SMILING!

'Do you want to talk about Willian? Top, cream of the crop, he's amazing'

Willian and Alderweireld, both 30 in less than a year's time, two players that have already devoted their passion towards other clubs in the same league as us, and will no doubt be on a lot more money than they deserve to be. We keep on falling for the same mistakes, neither of them will solve our current problems and we'll end up more overpaid past it players to add to the post fergie era list.

Even in those games you thought he was good if you go to Chelsea forums they will say he was poor there...if you read their criticism in general is unfair or simple made up. When everybody is poor they always will pick Willian to hate. Was the same thing with Matic.

In the case of Willian i suspect they just have a unconsciouss very high standard for a winger because of Hazard. But there is no other Hazard out there they can sign.
It's not made up atall.

He's a naturally gifted player which is why he is rated amoungst supporters who rarely see him live just mainly on highlights and he's good at transitioning play but his end product is very hit and miss. He often does pointless stepovers which slow the game down, holds the ball for far too long and when by the time he does release it the chance has gone. The Pedro of last season was better than Willian has been for us in 5 years.

Keep Pedro and give us Willian, we'll be there to help Chelsea on this matter.

What is this obsession with rounding players ages up? If I said Alderweireld was 28 3 months ago it would be a bit ridiculous.

If only we didn't sign Van Persie we might have won the league that year.

I thought that was a rule here? We have to convert Euros to Pounds (at a 1 to 1 rate) and a players age must always be "he's 27 next season/year (whatever is older).

I understand your point as a Chelsea fan. But i think that now the Premiere League is an international competition with the best managers of the world and the fans need to update some concepts. Players have different characteristics and roles. Wijnaldum scores more than Iniesta.

This idea of "end product" is an obsession in the English football world. You can be a donkey, but if you are good at scoring goals you are going to be rated..then when the team is in the highest level in the Champions League, those players with poor skills will not even touch the ball.

Anyway, Willian is going to the last years of his career i dont think he deserves too many debate now.

I'm going to start rounding player ages down to the nearest 0.

"We should try to sign Aguero, he's only recently turned 20."

Van Persie was the best in the league at the time which is much more excusable and we only got a season and a half out of him which helps the point more than anything. Do you really think fergie would've signed past peak players like Willian and Alderweireld that are getting frozen out of teams that finished below us? It's not sustainable and isn't good for our long term progression as a top side.

Our greatest ever managed deemed it necessary to sign him in order to win the league, and that's exactly what happened. If that isn't vindication I don't know what is. We brought in a 36 year old Henrik Larrson on loan and a 37 year old Scholes out of retirement. We also kept the likes of Rio, Giggs etc well into their twilight years. When you put it into context. Saying a 29 year old is past peak is ridiculous.

Clearly Willian has fallen out with his manager and Alder is being frozen out because he won't sign a new contract.

Sanchez was one of the best players in the league, the concensus is that Matic has been out best outfield player this season.

And they're the type of players we should sign? If Fergie wouldn't have signed them, we shouldn't that's my opinion on the matter. They won't improve our situation enough for it to be worth it. Also the age thing was one reason of several out of my original post, the age thing is more of a icing on the cake rather than the whole reason why I don't think we should sign them. Also because the likes of Rio, Giggs and Scholes were quality all the way to the end of their careers doesn't mean everyone can maintain that level. There's more than plenty of examples I can use of players that had past their peak by the age of 29/30.

Should we not have signed Stam or Rooney? Should we have not signed Ronaldo? You're just throwing shit now and seeing what sticks.

No it doesn't mean everyone can maintain that level. It also means you can't discount someone who recently turned 29. Or pretend they aren't in the side because they aren't good enough. Or players are past their peak before 30. Or there's no way an established player playing in the league can improve us.

I'm the one throwing shit and seeing what sticks? I don't see how you can't understand why someone would have a problem with us signing squad players approaching 30 from teams underneath us. It's not Van Persie or Giggs we're talking about it's fecking Willian.

Perisic to be fair is better and could put a good cross in. William is just average.

Mourinho rates him and beats playing Mata or Lingard there.

Perisic has good height on him and can cross and break, Willian is short so must have some other perks Jose rate.

If we'd been linked to Hazard and Hazard had posted that picture, everyone would be going ape and we'd have got to 30 pages minimum.

I sense people aren't as fussed about Willian

He'll play at leftback without complaining if Mourinho tells him to - a quality Mourinho greatly admires.

Yes. Clearly. You've said we are repeating the same mistakes, despite Matic being our best outfield player this year. You said RVP was an exception because he was one of the best in the league, despite Sanchez holding similar status prior to signing. You say players are past their peak at 29, despite having several players play successfully for us well over that age. You've said Fergie wouldn't sign players of this age (paraphrase) despite him signing players in their mid thirties. You've said Alderweireld and Willian aren't first teamers at their perspective clubs because they aren't good enough, despite that clearly not being the case - it's well documented. You've said Fergie wouldnt sign fractious players, despite him signing several.

Frankly, there is shit everywhere at this point.

I suspect as much that he would be versatile and loyal under Mourinho.

Hindsight is 20/20, but he would've been a much better signing than Sanchez since he would've actually been playing on the right side.

Good player, but don't want, he's just an easy choice , & like Matic will be untouchable because he worships Jose, and will not help us play better, more help Jose make his poor football marginally more effective.

Would rather he steps out of his comfort zone & at least tries something different if he's staying.

Because they work hard for the team. It's clear that Mourinho values defensive work rate & physical presence over actual quality in his attackers.

People keep spouting this nonsense. Its not either or, they require both. He likes players who follow instruction and have creativity. We wouldn't sign the likes of Pogba, Micky, Zlatan and Sanchez if he didn't care about creativity/ability on the ball, but that seems to be conveniently forgotten.
