Trump envoy seeks to replace Iran with Italy at World Cup, says report

https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...lace-iran-with-italy-at-world-cup-says-report

Congrats Italy for qualifying for the Epic Epstein World Cup via the massacred schoolgirls route. Forza paedophiles!
Just more pandering to the Italian American community - like his restoration of the Columbus sculpture recently. (And hey guess what Trump has ties to the Italian mob as well through his dubious real estate shenanigans in NYC)

It would be stupid to kick them out, unless Iran actually withdraw themselves they should be free to compete despite USA issues.

Even then if they have to be replaced, it should be by a team from their region, not Europe.

I'm not sure it's so much pandering to the Italian American community, rather trying to get back in Meloni's good books.

Meloni was one of Trump's biggest supporters in the EU. She was elected on much the same platform as Trump, anti immigration, proud patriotism and Italian heritage and strong Christian/Roman Catholic values. However she has recently come out hard against Trump and especially his war in Iran and she has also frequently spoken out against Netenyahu and Israel.

I'm betting his idea of Italy being given Iran's place is more to do with getting her back alongside than anything else, especially as much of the rest of the EU and UK seem to be heading away from the US with regards to trade and military equipment deals and forming their own European defence rather than relying on such close ties to the USA.

It would be stupid to kick them out, unless Iran actually withdraw themselves they should be free to compete despite USA issues.

Iran were going to withdraw, mainly due to safety and security reasons, however as of yesterday they said they will definitely be competing.

FIFA have also said they will definitely be competing. From my understanding, FIFA said previously that if Iran were to withdraw then they would be replaced by either Iraq or the UAE. Not Italy.

Again, this is Trump trying to control things that have absolutely feck all to do with him. Saying that, the influence he clearly has over FIFA and Infantino cannot be ignored, although after their worldwide humiliation in presenting their own specially made Trump Trophy, the FIFA Peace Prize award, I would (hope) think it highly unlikely that they make the same mistake again.

More than 120 civil society organisations and MLS and NWSL-affiliated fan groups have sent a travel advisory to potential visitors to the United States ahead of this summer’s World Cup, warning that those from immigrant communities, racial and ethnic minority groups, and LGBTQ+ individuals are “most vulnerable to serious harm” when travelling within the country due to government policies.

The advisory, published Thursday, is directed towards fans, players, journalists, and other visitors, calling upon each individual to “exercise caution and have an emergency contingency plan” amidst what they term as the “Trump administration’s rising authoritarianism and increasing violence”.

Evidence cited as part of their advisory includes 48 deaths in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody since the beginning of 2025, total or partial restrictions on entries for visitors from 39 countries, and the presence of ICE agents at airports across the U.S. over recent months.

Less than 50 days away I believe. Seems a bit tight for any replacement at this point.
Bibi can convince Trump that having Israel as the replacement will bring everlasting positive reverberations across the football fans.

All of a sudden Israel is going to change their qualifying region.

I'm not only going to boycott the games, but I'm going to refuse to watch any legal stream, and instead make a point of pirating the broadcast.

Genuinely surprised that the plurality of votes are for boycotting. I sympathise with those boycotting but it's the world cup, and Canada and Mexico have done nothing to deserve it

I'm not paying for it either but I can't resist watching the games, it's the best thing in football

Remember it’s a self-selecting sample of people responding.
If you look at the total membership of this board I don’t think there’s a chance in hell that 30-odd percent boycott it.

I respect people having principles and I would love to see the major national teams withdraw from this tournament, including my own, and I would support it 100%. but... if the question is, would I personally restrain from watching it with every NT participating, every player being there, every manager being there, every TV house doing coverage, every reporter enjoying the trip, basically, everyone else enjoying it without any issues, then the answer is no.

there's little sense in having higher standards for myself than for those who should be preventing or at least speaking out against all of this, and I'm not going to change myself and my habits when the same is never expected from those who are directly involved and have much more influence than me.

biggest murderers I've seen in my life will be singing and dancing at that crappy music festival without any remorse in month or two, with European leaders sleeping like babies and being perfectly fine with ongoing genocide, as well as this war. so being the only sucker that was doing... whatever during games, while everyone else involved just carried on with everything makes little sense.

the world where USA invade other countries and kill or kidnap foreign leaders while the rest of the Europe pretend they deserved it, is the only world I know. so this last couple of months is nothing new for me and the same goes for Trump. the issue is, I also learned something about Europe in the last year or two and what I know today will be more lasting than these 3 weeks of football.

there will be repeat of this somewhere one day but we will be left with the same spineless cowards and their usual bullshit once again. because when you listen to the likes of Merz or Ursula, or even that dumb bitch that is obsessed with Russia, you have to ask yourself what's even the point anymore.

we have hosts bombing one of the participating countries without any issues. and lack of reaction from Europe, and by that I mean big, looooooud statement on those girls that were killed just because they were born in wrong country is insane. again, no sanctions, no consequences, not even for Israeli clubs at least, even after that recent brutal attack on Lebanon. it's not even being considered.

if you aren't even willing to do the bare minimum, you basically support this agression, no way around it. so why would I pick this tournament for boycott but keep watching UEFA competitions soon after without any issue, given what I've witnessed from Europe in last two years? we are basically an accomplice, period. if I can accept that, I can accept this tournament as well.

now, I will miss vast majority of the games anyway so instead of writing all this crap I could simply pretend I'm boycotting it, but it's not that, it's the schedule. I'm not going to watch any match that doesn't start before 22h. I won't bother with my NT either. if I'm not too tired that evening, I will probably watch our opening match against England, miss the next two games and after that, who knows, that could even be the only game I will watch if we go out early. I couldn't be bothered with our recent games against Brazil and Colombia either.

football seems to be the least important thing currently, but it's mainly the schedule that makes my decision easier.

I'll probably boycott the group stage. As much because it looks crap as any political issues. I'll watch matches held in canada and mexico but it looks like they have very few really. I dont know beyond that. I boycotted the last one in full and dont really care that i missed it so it wouldn't be the end of the world to skip this one too.

Such hubris and disrespect. A disgusting shithole organisation. "Here, come stand next to your rapist so I can get a selfie".

"Can I shake hands with someone who represents a fascist and racist government and defends the policies of this government!I don't think I should shake his hand. Nor do I see him as qualified for cooperation or to be my partner."
Further response, in his own words.

How absolutely bloody demented and arrogant does one have to be to call up a representative of two FAs, one representing the country actively genociding the other's, and ask them to shake hands for a publicity stunt? What a vile, selfcentered moron would even consider this? Infantino for one, it seems.

This is the least hyped World Cup I've seen. There's not even an anthem, is there?

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will feature a multi-song official soundtrack rather than a single song. Key songs released include "Lighter" by Jelly Roll and Carín León (March 2026), "Por Ella" by Los Ángeles Azules and Belinda (April 2026), and "Echo" by Daddy Yankee and Shenseea (April 2026). The official album is produced by FIFA Sound

Was half expecting a Kid Rock/Kanye mash up.

Never thought i'd miss Blatter.
True. He was corrupt as well but looking back he kind of cared about football. During his time World Cups happened in countries that actually cared about football and have a football culture...

Pretty sure he was pushing for an American world cup on both occasions. He's just less slimy. Less grotesque.

What's depressing is that c*nt will definitely get reelected because he's earned more money and that's what the continental boards care about as well.

This will be one of the shittest World Cups in history. Easy to boycott. The Americans have corporatised and price gouged the shit out of it which will just grow the wedge between real fans and the people that are in power.

I really hope things return to normal in the next WC. I can't see European/African fans tolerating these rip-off prices.

Fifa have to be honest. I honestly couldn't give a shit about the world cup.

England can win and I'd be happy for a moment and then not give a shit. I genuinely think it's a pile of corrupt wank now, go the extent I'm starting to despise players for not boycotting long ago.
