FIFA and international football do feel like they're a few steps further down the road to being a soulless, slimy, boring, pile of shit masquerading as sport.
I've been watching football for 30+ years and i can barely give a feck about the biggest event in the sports calendar.

It refreshing to be able to boycott a World Cup and not be called a racist.

A cape verde fan would have to spend a month's salary to watch a football match vs saudi arabia. It's criminal.

Oh no. The World Cup is expensive

BBC have a delightful piece reminding just how so

They should try costing up a Disney trip

What isnt expensive anymore.

This world cup is particularly gross with the extra focus on premium tiers. Is that not relevant just because you think a trip to Disney is expensive?

Struggling to understand the link between the two?

I'll watch it for free, won't be contributing to the greed fest. Empty seats would be justice for the ticket prices. Dynamic pricing is a disgrace.

All the games shouldn't cost more than clubfootball. FIFA are meant to be custodians of the game, not an ultra greedy corporation. Maybe time for the big football nations to break away and create a new governing body with rules so the fans don't end up getting rinsed.

Indeed.

I had been thinking I might end up watching the odd game, but that shitshow from Infantino last week sealed it for me.

Toronto Fifa fan fest general admission tickets go out tomorrow. General admission at least they made free. But they're also giving options for a $300 package, $150 and $100 packages. You know they're going to try and make the "free admission" as shit as they can to push people to buy. Gross how literally every aspect they are trying to monetize as much as they can, but at least they caved on the pressure to give a free option.

People are going to be disappointed if they are rooting for empty stadiums. Every game in the U.S. will be packed. It sucks, but we have too many people that still want to go just to be a part of it and are not worried about the politics or the price gouging.

This guy hasn't come back to elaborate on his point (if it could be described as such).

Shocked.

It's more a case of the atmosphere will probably be a bit shit. Teams traveling around the continent, not having a home base, expensive prices driving out a big chunk of real supporters... Also definitely some of those smaller matches will definitely be partially empty. No chance they all sell out.

I mean I honestly don’t know why you can’t understand what I posted…

But I’ll try to say it another way.,,

Everything is expensive. Especially premier sporting events. F1, US masters, Wimbledon. They’re expensive for a reason….exactly because they are premier sporting events. Don’t recall bbc writing articles about the cost of a week long trip from US to Wimbledon for example. Just a poor article I was referring to

So that's your point? You needn't have bothered.

There's "everything is expensive" and then there is charging minimum $1300 as the retail price for Canada vs Bosnia in Toronto. It's predatory prices. The question isn't if they'll sell out, it's about doing "what's right" to give people a fair price and fair chance to get them. Not price out so many people out of it and making it a sport for the rich.

But footbal is cheap. I could watch the whole world cup paying maybe 2-5 usd tops for special streamer (official)

Going to watch live is not. So.. there's that

You dont need to watch live to enjoy the worldcup, that is the privilege for the rich sadly. But the worldcup alone is easily accessible

Thats just not true though. The previous world cup was far more affordable than this one. The prices for 2026 are madness and completely disproportionate.

I was talking to my brother who lives in the States and he thinks more of these tickers are being bought by corporates as gifts to their customers / partners / senior management etc.

Wimbledon was a bad example as the prices start as low as £40 and you can get centre court tickets for the early rounds for between £120 and £350. Obviously the semi's and finals tickets are expensive.

F1 tickets start at £70 so again, not too bad at all.

Hotels, Holiday let's and Air B&B's have been raising prices when big events are in town for years, that's not new. What is new here is that transport costs being raised like they are in New Jersey and the biggest increase is the ridiculous prices of the tickets for games. As many have pointed out in here and on other sites, for those travelling from overseas you could have watched 4 or 5 matches at the last world cup for the price of watching just one this year.

I think that's the reason your posts were challenged because they aren't based on facts and you used awful examples as comparison to the World Cup this year.

I won't watch a single minute of this just like the last one.

Between the matches being played in the middle of the night and my general antipathy towards both FIFA and the US, boycotting it will be easy.

Yeah same here. This isn't a difficult decision to make.

Just got an email from Soccer Canada, tickets still available for every game in Canada by the looks of it. I put my name in tbe draw for the Round of 32 match in Toronto. Second place in Group L v Second place in Group L. If Croatia wins the group, England will play in Toronto on Ju,y 2nd.
