Is that Canadian dollar?

TBH that isn’t too bad for Knock out games. I’m not saying it’s cheap but we have paid three figures for League Cup FA Cup Final tickets in recent years and that was face value.

I’m sure the tickets for the Europa League final were around £300 as well, we got ours through the club so paid nowhere near that but the UEFA ballot is extortion.

Are those for the best tickets in the stadium/most expensive ?
Surely all tickets arent selling for several hundreds..

All the best tickets are Category 1. They are all sold. It's the "cheap seats" that are still available. Those prices are for the worst seats.

For 90 mins football game.

Insane
If England finishes second in the group, they will play the knockout round in Toronto. Prices are insane but I am only 40 miles away and it's an easy train ride. It's been a live long dream to see England play a World Cup game, I was living in England in 66 but only 10 and we couldn't get tickets, so I will pay the $637 for the two tickets. If England wins the group, Croatia shoukd be second and I. An offload the tickets to the local Croatian community.

feck me. I know things have gotten a lot more expensive, but I can't wrap my head around those prices.

Certainly rules out most casual and neutral fans.. The hardcore fans desperate to see their team in the WC will probably pay and get fleeced..

I see that New Jersey Transit has "reduced" the price of the R/T train ticket from NYC to the stadium from $150 to $105.

The same ticket for NFL games is $12.90 r/t.

So while they're bigging up the 30% "reduction" I've not seen yet how they explain why it's not $12.90.

Gov. Sherrill stated that local taxpayers should not fund transportation for FIFA visitors and so NJ Transit aims to recoup $48 million in operating expenses

Not to mention them restricting other ways to access the stadium. Pure greed and we should be embarrassed.

Unless I'm being exceedingly thick here, I can't for the life of me work out the reasoning for the added price increases.

The Governor says it's to cover increased costs and spending on transporting fans to and from games, but surely that's covered in the normal ticket prices? As mentioned in the article I have linked below, there's not expected to be any more passengers than they would expect for regular sporting or large music events. It's just the added frequency of the games in a shortish period of time. They are claiming it's to recoup $48 million it will cost them and are saying FIFA haven't provided any remuneration for transport costs.

Other than greed I honestly can't see why they are doing this. I doubt FIFA have provided free travel passes to all corporate and sponsors packages, and if they have then surely that would have been negotiated with the travel providers. Even if that was the case there's only 8 games scheduled, the maths just doesn't add up to where this $48 million number they keep quoting.

Just guessing, but maybe the normal rate does not cover costs 100% and the state subsidies them?

I live about 2 hours from Toronto and the other thing that needs to be considered after the ticket prices are the costs to be in Toronto. Me and the wife usually have a night out and stay at a hotel in Toronto and the cost is usually around $400 for the room for the 1 night. I just checked the same hotel we always stay at and it’s about $800 a night.

My buddy owns a restaurant and he told me he’s raising his prices during the World Cup and I’d imagine most restaurants are doing the same. As it is right now, a decent restaurant for 2 people it’s usually $150-200 and then you are expected to leave a tip on top of that.

This thread is just reminding me why I love local football more and more.

But local taxpayers can fund transportation the NFL teams?

Hear hear.

Here in the Bay Area, we have a few local teams that provide a great day out without blowing a paycheck

Bay FC (women) https://bayfc.com/
Oakland Roots (men) https://www.oaklandrootssc.com/

The Roots are doing a good job of making use of the Oakland Coliseum since the great East Bay exodus of the Raiders and A's (and Warriors from next door Oakland Arena).

FIFA make plans to use MetLife playing field for 2026 World Cup final half-time show

FIFA has drafted plans to use the MetLife Stadium field during the half-time show of the World Cup final, making it very likely that the interval for the tournament’s showpiece event on July 19 will run significantly beyond soccer’s usual regulations of 15 minutes.

More advertisement breaks, err, I mean "drink breaks" of course, and a tacky-ass long halftime show. They're really US-ifying the tourney.

so the NJ taxpayers fund the NFL fans train trips?

oops I just noticed tthat RedinSTL asked the same question.

Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum has agreed to allow Iran to be based in the country during the World Cup, claiming the US was unwilling to host them.

Sheinbaum said her government had been approached by Fifa after the US made it clear it did not want Iran's squad to stay in the country during the tournament.

"We have no reason to deny them the possibility of staying in Mexico," Sheinbaum said.

"The United States does not want the Iranian team to stay overnight, but they are going to play three matches there.

I am aware but i'm just pointing out plenty in the US are not in agreement with many of the things he does.
Still the USA as a country are at war with Iran and don't appear very Hospital to the Iranian team and fans. Not Trump as a person.

Like the last one I won't be boycotting exactly but I doubt I'll watch much (or any) and the host country is part of that in both cases.

Two and a half weeks away of the World Cup: I still don’t “feel it.” I may not watch much. Boycott? No, but not excited either.

This should have been a dream scenario for me as I was born in Iran but living in Canada for 30 years now. But I am just not bothered and not sure I will watch many matches. With what has happened in Iran with all the killings and suffering of people on top US co-hosts, makes it hard to get into this tourney. This is coming from an avid football and sports fan.

You're same time zone as me aren't you? The time difference pretty much rules out watching anything live, which automatically reduces interest levels, let alone all of the rest of the nonsense around this world cup.

I remember taking time off work to watch the world cup back in my 20s (when I couldn't afford to go on multiple holidays a year).

Yep. Getting up in the middle of the night requires some serious motivation these days. I've started staying up late to watch United again since Carrick returned though.

I checked the kickoff times and loads of the matches are on at 23:00, 02:00 and 05:00.

Quite easy to boycott that.

What do you mean by top US co hosts? Is that in reference to how the US won’t host Iranian teams?

No not really at all. What I mean is what has happened to the US since Trump was elected. So much destruction and hate created around the world.
