World Cup Round of 16 Matches

6 european teams in the last 8

Seems a lot but when you drill down, 4 of those could easily be another continent

Mexico played against 10 men for 40 minutes and didn't win
Senegal should have made sure Belgium weren't even at this stage
Brazil missed a pen and a one Vs one before Norway put it away.
And Colombia just lost on pens.

Maybe says something about non-European teams not being able to put games away?

Did you forget Egypt were also 2 - 0 up

The route to the final is surely now just a formality for Argentina.
I don't know if you're just intentionally trying to jinx it, but surely after these last two games, nothing is a formality for Argentina. Honestly, I am tempted to put some money on the Suisse.

I cannot stand Switzerland. Pointless, boring bastards every Euros and every World Cup. Just go away.
Bitter much? We're a tiny nation. For us to get to the quarters is a massive achievement. I couldn't give a sh*t how we get there. On top of that we have played some really good football in this tournament. Better stuff than some much bigger nations with much better players in their squads.

And you weren't rolling around on the ground every 5 minutes like there was a sniper in the stands.

Not sure why people are acting like Switzerland are easy to beat, they've either beaten or tested nearly all the major nations over the past couple of decades. Know for a fact they've beaten France, Spain and Italy.

Argentina will need to improve.

We need Manzambi back asap though. We don’t offer much going forward without him.

They're difficult to beat yeah. Very well organised, very disciplined.

Very boring but they don't care about that and I don't blame them. I think Argentina would have preferred to play Colombia.

They are not.

They're generally totally unspectacular but very hard to beat.

Colombia seem terrible at pens. Always seem to lose in Copa America and the only team ever to lose to England in a WC shootout.

I was surprised they started James in this. Surely at his age he's better as an impact sub late on in games like this unless there is a mini Ronaldo situation going on there? He hasn't played a huge amount at club level in recent times with his physical issues either.

Switzerland will have that European defensive organisation and composure that Egypt didn't. However, unlike Egypt who had some dangerous players in attack, I don't fancy the Swiss attack troubling the Argentine defence, so best chance for them is another penalty shootout.

You think?

I think Switzerland will cause them more problems

Still expect Argentina to scrape a win.

Against Colombia it would be more of a war and potentially for Argentina to lose a player or two to suspension.

Also surprised the final QF is being played Monday at 2am.

Really not a lot of time to prepare for Wednesday evening QF so there is small advantage to winner of England/Norway.

Agree. They would be more familiar with Colombia’s style of play. Swiss are not easy to beat.

Like @Darkhorsez said, I think Argentina are obviously much more familiar with Colombia and how they play so they'd have rather faced them. You have to go back to 1930 for the last time a South American side that wasn't Brazil knocked Argentina out I think.

I take your point about it being more of a nasty spiteful game vs Colombia and there being more risk of injury and suspensions though.
