World Cup Round of 16 Matches

Good luck man.
Yeah good luck man.
Thanks guys, appreciate it!

Do you have any updates on his injury? Really hope he makes it as he has been great
Sadly it doesn't look too good according to our coach. After the game yesterday he said it's probably too risky and thus unlikely for him to play again this World Cup. I have a slim hope it might be an attempt at mind games, but probably not, which would suck :/

Oh well - all the best. They are a mentally strong team. Wishing you and the team all the best. I will be rooting for them for sure.

So what’s going to happen to Egypts coach? He stared at and runs menacingly into an elderly camera man.
Fine? Suspension? Both?

North African are not arabs
Ah, another person who doesn’t know about the colonization that the Arab/islam world did

“Yes, Arab forces colonized North Africa, beginning with a military conquest in the 7th century that was followed by centuries of migration, cultural assimilation, and the spread of Islam and the Arabic language among indigenous populations”

Arab colonization this video summarizes it well

Thank you, the support is much appreciated!
It is interesting how much we seem to split opinions. On the one side there was quite a bit of "hate" in some comments yesterday because of our less-than-flamboyant playing style. On the other side there was also a lot of encouragement and good wishes like yours.
For a neutral nation that is quite something as our mentality is mostly a "do right by everybody", which we apparently fail to do completely in our approach to the World Cup

So Spanish are arabs too by your definition ? Are british people latin ?
They did the same as the romans before them by placing pawns in to lead the regions they conquered but they didn't replace the population.
PS : don't assume what people know or don't, I'm Moroccan btw and I know my country's history.

No games today, always hate this part of the WC.

I'd even take another Switzerland v Colombia just to have a game on today.

Yeah man, impeding a shot is called defending.
Yeah man, when you don’t hit another players foot. Defending is not doing what Tielamans did. It’s fine you don’t want to watch the footage I sent, it’s 10000 percent a foul. I’m curious did you believe the Egyptian stomp on the foot was also “just defending” and that goal shouldn’t have been over turned?

Pulisic hit the defenders foot. I did watch the footage you sent. I watched it when it happened too. I even watched other replays of it on TV and social media. Just because you’re wrong doesn’t mean I didn’t watch it.

So if an attacker is running towards goal a defender can just jump in front of them? They don’t play the ball, just put their body directly in front of an attacker in motion?

True. And equally true it could have been very different. Of the top of my mind

Congo - England 1-0 for 75 minutes ended 1-2.
Senegal - Belgium 2-0 for 86 minutes ended 2-3.
Egypt - Argentina 2-0 for 79 minutes ended 2-3.

Africa really threw it away. Could have had 4/8 in the last 8. Striking down to European sides and regning World champions Argentina. But they didn't. Not because the talent wasn't there but apparently for not being able to close out games.

Unfortunately what that Romanian guy said has shown itself to be true: On far too many occasions they are only able to concentrate for 60 minutes.
I remember the exact same thing being said about African teams back in the 90s.

They've got much better but the outcomes follow the same pattern. The argument used to be tactical indiscipline and naivety, can you still argue the same? Concentration?

Maybe it's more about belief? Some of the games above you expected the other side to score and somewhat turn it into "it was nice while it lasted". Not Senegal, I was very surprised but more a function of how shite Belgium had been.

Here's hoping Morocco prove me wrong on all of that

Morocco for the past 4-5 years have consistently shown that they are playing at a World Class level. I still expect them to lose tonight but that is only down to two things.

1 the absolute brilliance of this France side (hosting 3-4 Ballon d'Or level players)
2 and the fact Moroccos squad is very thin. Players 12-16 are already a huge drop of in quality vs 1-11. France on the other hand have at least 16 players who are good enough to be starters.

Would be a shame to see them ousted this "early", Morocco 26 is better than Morocco 22 that ended 4th.

At this point, you are willfully creating an alternate reality instead of accepting that you’re wrong.

Tielemans played the ball. He completed a successful tackle of the ball and gained possession, and while doing so, got kicked by Pulisic.

The last time we played them in semi finals was 1986, and Argentina got referees decisions then as well.
That was a quarterfinal, no?

Belgium played Argentina in the semi finals (and got beaten by Maradona who was fantastic once again).

Er... Isn't that exactly what defenders do? What else? To put your body infront of the attacker and closing his space is the very definition of defending

What else can defender do? Tell him to stop?
