Wot, no LB? (2026)

We are but Mainoo played the 6 a fair bit last season and looked good there, we’d be a bit slow in the middle with him and Tielemans but I’d hope their control of the ball would alleviate that a bit.

Now 2 injuries out of those 3 and we’re in the mud.
I doubt Mainoo can play as No 6 twice a week for a month or two.

You realise that Lausanne were perennially a yo yo club, often in the second division, occasionally in the third before INEOs took over, they have now stayed in the top division for the first successful season in a very long time.

Again, I've explained that INEOs don't care about the debt, they had an option to use money from selling assets to improve the debt situation, they decided against it as it has no benefit to them. They want Government help so stands to reason that having a high debt counts in their favour, they've also been in debt for a very very long time, so it's nothing new.
18b in debt is no joke especially since the credit rating keep going down. That translate into higher interes rates. Their debt is at par if not higher to six and a half times the level of its underlying profits.

INEOS had been in talks of selling parts of their businesses (including OGC Nice) and they had sold INEOS Calabrian. They also sold their shares in INOVYN Produzione Italia SpA,

Rodri to Barca basically confirmed and will hopefully be the domino stone to kick off the last 2 weeks of the window. Right now everything seems to be frozen.

Doubt our inactivity has anything to do with a city player moving to barca

Signed a load of youths on a wing and a prayer that they'll save us some bob down the line by developing into world beaters. We're skint and turning into Liverpool pre-Klopp.

That would have made sense if Rodri was going to Madrid.

We know other teams are negotiating for some players I.e. city and lille still discussing bouaddi. Liverpool and Spurs discussing Gapko, especially if Liverpool can agree a fee with PSG for Barcola.

I think louis page will be our final central midfield signing this summer. Leaving room for him, thwaites and flecther brothers to provide backup for Santos, Tielemans and Mount.

Whether a LB or striker come in on loan or we buy them, who knows. If we miss out on CL football next summer, this window will be the catalyst for it.

No one seems to which is a breath of fresh air. My guess is that they're working on several deals behind the scenes and we won't hear about them until they're really advanced. I like how shrewd the moves we have made are, it suggests that we're thinking things through a lot more.
We've been working behind the scenes for over a month now, since Tielemans.

Taking us over a month to get a deal to an advanced stage.

To me this doesn't make us shrewd, it makes us slow.

I really wonder what the strategy could be.

* Waiting for a player to become available? The longer it goes, the more settled the squads get
* Waiting for a club to become desperate? None of the players we’re linked with belong to poor clubs
* Waiting to further identify the need? Impossible, LB and CDM are the obvious gaps
* Waiting for sales to start the domino effect? We couldn’t sell panties to a child molester

Methinks we’re looking at whether we can go in with what we’ve got (i.e., rely on young players for squad depth or no bad injuries in preseason), or last minute bargains (i.e., loan deals Reguillon or Amrabat-style).

I would rather be that type of team than whatever City are.

 You think we have a strategy?

Look at how stupid we have been over Lewis Hall. We waited till after Gordon-Tonali-BrunoG left, before we enquired. What strategy is that when the selling club has funds in abundance and needs to replace players they have sold and not sell more?

It will be a deadline day panic, like running to B&M on Christmas Eve to buy presents and taking whatever tat is left on the shelves.

What have Ineos been doing for the past month? This isn't even like we're being strung along by a transfer saga (à la De Jong). They've just been sat with their thumbs up their arses.

I suspect they're waiting for the big transfer chain to happen with the big midfielders moving, maybe still hoping on getting Tchouaméni.
If not, then it's a grim indictment.
We also badly need a LB, but all we hear are rumours.
We'd better have some kind of hidden plan, and not stuck between what Vivell and Wilcox want.

What dominos would it set off with him going to Barca?

They overspent last summer and have fecked themselves this summer most likely. Still Carrick is right there for them to use as a scapegoat when this season goes tits up eh?

Surely there was more chance of that happening if Rodri went to Real and not Barca?

Expect some journos to suddenly have a few hints on our transfer dealings by Monday, obviously briefed by Ineos themselves of course. We lost (to Ruben Amorim) and suddenly all the focus is on them reinforcing the squad. All this while they were enjoying the good vibes and football we were playing but after this loss the pressure will be back on. We WILL sign someone next week.

If our signings over the next few weeks are Page and Salinas, it won't move the needle at all. Not for this season at least. We need a new starting left-back and a defensive midfielder, who can get around the pitch. Ground coverage and physicality were discussed heavily before the summer in regards to the midfield rebuild. None of the players signed fit that description.

You're right. I forgot that he's off to them instead.
Well, then there's no excuse.
I just hope it's not internal politics that's slowing us down.
There have been reports of some of Vivells recommendations being passed over.

Given the midfield targets we were linked to (Baleba Tchouameni Scott Anderson), Ineos obviously think we need a midfielder who is able to clean up when we lose the ball, id they haven't been working on any alternatives so far it would be gross negligence. They might as well sack Carrick if they let him face the season with squad as it is.

What gets me is they employ these guys then ignore their judgement. You could have saved a lot of tea ladies jobs by not employing him if that is the case.

2 decent athletic players please. A CDM and LB. I can live without any other signings. Calling out to the holy spirit, fsm and Allah on this one.

Yes they sold those shares but didn't use the money to bail out the debt in any capacity, because they don't want to...they could have quite easily used that money to reduce the debt, not by a huge amount, but they were given that option but decided against it....ask yourself why that is?

It does sound like Wilcox and Vivell occupy the same space when it comes to transfers.
Not saying they don't work well together, but do they really need to take right up to the beginning of the season to make a decision on a player?

Don't know mate, considering how they run their football clubs they don't come across as very smart. Seriously I guess they are selling parts of the business and with it the debt that business had ran into. They also a private company so we don't know exactly how the money is being spent.

Is there anything really wrong with this take? Santos has been good most preseason, Tielemans is a top player and Bruno is Bruno.

They could be the best trio of the coming season. They could not. But it's not exactly worth a simple laughing smiley is it?

You need a physical midfielder. Manù Koné should be your top target.

Vivell at least seems to have experience and a repertoire of spotting talent from his previous jobs at Hoffenheim, the Redbull clubs and Chelsea as both a scout and technical director. Wilcox' recommendations so far seem to be mostly limited to ex-City youngsters and very little beyond that. He was also (apparently) the main driving force behind the Delap chase last year. Getting rid of Hojlund just to replace it with Delap would have been a horrific indictment on our recruitment process and it was only avoided, because the player chose another club instead.

Bruno has just come back as have a number of players. Unfortunately those players will be rusty. Has Bruno changed his penalty run up for some reason? Like him I missed the penalty. Tielemans and Santos are class and will add a lot to the team. The whole team was really off today.

That's how I feel about this game as well. We were just plain shite. I definitely think we need to find a replacement for Shaw and add another midfielder, but that's not just because of today. We've got a pretty good starting 11 for the new season.

The squad needs three players minimum to have any chance of putting up a decent showing in the Champions League and finishing in the top 4/5.

As it stands now I would expect us to finish 6th and it’s crucial more players are added before the window shuts. I’m still assuming that we will sign at least two players but have to wait and see.

Exactly. We knew we needed three midfielders for depth, that was before Mount got his usual injury, now it is more urgent. Shaw definitely needs phasing out and a proper LB brought in, not a utility fullback, can do a job on either side. We need better than can do a job.

Think some just presume we will get into the Top 5 as a matter of course. Spurs have bought pretty well and if they could get their hands on a striker will be a real challenge, Chelsea you would think cannot be as bad again. Villa will be thereabouts.

This happens every time we make it back to the Champions league. We screw up transfers in the summer.

The ambition is gone, and the high-ups rest on the fact we gained champions league so don't need to strengthen.

Yes it's a pretty ridiculous take in my opinion
