WSL 25/26 | Arsenal v United - 12:30 Sat 10 January

Awujo goes off and Lundkvist comes on presumably at right back to let Zigiotti return to the midfield.

Lundqvist has been great since coming on. Hindsight’s 20:20 but she really should have replaced Rivière before she got sent off.

Worse from the player. You adjust your game on a yellow. This idea that you have to sub certain players on a card can be annoying.
Except she looked choppy all game. Sometimes you can see it happening a mile off. We also have a new right back who is a much better player. It reminds me of when Casemiro got sent off against Chelsea, the way he was playing you could see it a mile off.

Nothing wrong with that imo.

No, but it's more on the player imo.

Full Time. We had to hold on for much of that game, especially when we went down to 10, but our defence came through for us again.

FT 0-0

Arsenal will feel hard done by. United worked hard and needed a fair bit of luck to get that draw. Point won.

Good result in the end, all things considered. Probably would have taken a draw at the start. There's no avoiding the fact that we played poorly for most of the match though. Arsenal will be very disappointed with the draw.

Big credit to the defence, goalkeeper and the dms for determined defending keeping a clean sheet. A return to form from Tullis-Joyce

Frustrating to watch as we couldnt lay a hand on Arsenal and attack even on counters other than the first 5 mins. Obviously losing a player after 65 mins meant we were even less likely to get forward and force a save

A little bit of luck that Arsenal werent sharp in attack, but good defending from the team and probably deserved a point even though it was 6 attempts on target to 1

Proud of the team ... every single one of them. That was a defensive masterclass. Janssen, Maya and PTJ were immense. Okay, we weren't great getting forward, but to stop Arsenal scoring when we had ten players for the last 32 minutes goes down as a great result for me.

They had much more possession, more shots, more corners ... but we hit the woodwork!

Agreed. It's that thing with Rivière in particular though. She's a high risk/reward sort of player despite being a full back. Leads to some great rescue tackles and excellent attacking play - not so great when you're defending a lot and spending a lot of time under pressure.

Normally I'd say you only have to sub them if they seem to be attracting too much attention from the ref. Under pressure today, constantly pinned back? Not many of us were surprised to see that red card.

No grumbles about Jayde's red. My only complaint is that last year she was the most fouled player in the WSL, and I suspect she is this year too. Yet nobody has ever received a red against us for the constant battering she gets.

Grumble over.

As others have mentioned, it was good to see Phallon back in form like this. As great as she looked in her mask after the eye socket injury, I really do think it affected her game.

Just home. Frozen. Too many players not quite on their game today but the positives were that we hung on for a point, PTJ was excellent, and the new signings looked excellent.

Disappointed in Rivière, Rolfo, & Malard today. Malard played with all the intensity of Zirkzee on a bad day. I don’t understand how she wasn’t subbed. Felt bad for Awujo as thought her physicality would have been useful.

This is exactly how I feel, though I would find a way to work the word "valiant" into the discussion.

IMHO, a major reason why we struggled to get or maintain possession throughout the game was the absence of Ella Toone. Maybe Tooney hasn't had as many outstanding performances this season as we all hope/expect to see, but she is often the glue that ties everything together. I think that Jess Park could be great as a 10, but she hasn't been playing there for us much this season and clearly has been more effective on the wing. That said, I think she will greatly improve in the 10 role if she needs to play there for a few weeks.
