Liverpool managed to beat us to fourth place at the end of the 23/24 season, but were down in the bottom half last year.

This season after two games they've got 0 points - losing 4-1 at Anfield to Everton and 1-0 at Leicester (who had a player sent off). Their match with Villa was postponed after the death of their ex-manager Matt Beard at the weekend.

They sold their star player, Olivia Smith, to Arsenal in the summer. That said, their squad isn't great but it really isn't this bad. Fair to say we're playing them when they're struggling to find their form. They will do of course and we have to make sure that isn't against us.

Incidentally while Liverpool's men were winning the COVID league in 19/20, their women's team were getting relegated. So for omen watchers their poor form may not be the best news.

This time it's our opponent who has the midweek game. They play Sunderland in the WSL league cup on Wednesday.

A couple of years ago Liverpool liked real up-and-comers. Since then they've looked like... um... down-and goers?

Having a week off between matches should feel like an extended vacation to our players. I hope Skinner gives them an extra day off this week: I think extra rest might have a bigger (positive) impact on next Sunday's performance than anything that could be accomplished on the field in training.
 
Liverpool won their midweek WSLCup match against Sunderland 5-0, so their season has finally got underway.

Meanwhile, United have had a few days to rest and recover. According to Marc Skinner - Leah Galton, Simi Awujo and Millie Turner are out - I haven't seen any other updates on Millie's injury. Everyone else is currently back in training with the squad and available for selection.

I haven't heard anything specific about Jayde Rivière, so whether she's available to start I guess we won't know until Sunday.
 
If the back line that held firm against Arsenal concedes even a sniff of a chance against an Olivia Smith-less Liverpool, our ambitions need checking.

I don't like feeling this confident ahead of a Liverpool game, but we really should be doing to them what we did to everyone but Arsenal here

That means both Rivierie and Blundell should be available for selection? And they did say 7 days ago that they would give a time frame on Turners injury at the beginning of this week but for some reason nothing has been said at all. I was searching for updates on Turner when I stumbled into this thread.

Most important will be if Riviere is back as she has been kind of injury prone so would be relief if to see her back in the squad.

Amazing how the journalist says: "Thanks for your time Marc, and Skinner thanks all of them and asks how they are doing etc. Thats not something that happens in most countries :)
 
Terry Terland has only played 20 minutes the last 10 days, will she start today and bring the Brann home leg pressing energy? :-)

It is a fine position for the club to be in - do we bring in the CL destroyer in place of the WSL top scorer, or will we play them both?
As long as we bring the pressing energy, I am excited for today

Riviere starts. Team as expected really. Rolfo starting, as are Malard and Terland.

Only five subs named. That's ridiculous.

Turns out Simi, Turner and Galton was not the only ones not available. Blundell is not a sub either. It would be easy for Skinner to just include her in the talk in the press conference from now on as we know she is in full training and playing reserve games :-)

Where is Sandberg btw? (not in the squad) Hope she is just a tiny bit sick or something!
 
So glad to see Rivière back but this lack of options on the bench is worrying.

It's funny: It was only a short time ago that we were all wondering if Sandberg was an adequate backup to George at LB. Then she turned into an absolute beast when forced to start, and now here we are worried about her not being available.

Its not as worrying as I thought it would be when we have 5 players injuried with 4 of them probably back within the next 1-2 weeks (except Turner) We can do with 4 outfield players subs today, its not like Skinner would use them anyway if he had 5-6 outfield players to sub in :D

I hope Toone can get a rest once in a while as well, we dont want her to get burnt out!

Evidently Skinner gave everyone an extra day off this week, and it looks like it's paying off. Everyone seems to have an extra spring in their step.
 
Oof! Miyazawa hit the inside of one post and now hits the outside of the other one. Would’ve been another cracking goal.
 
Need to make the most of this dominance and get at least one more before half-time. Would be good to have a nice relaxing end to the game, even if we don’t have much flexibility in terms of resting players at the moment
 
Lets make it count ladies! Arsenal was robbed of 2 points yesterday for not taking their chances!
 
United pushing for the second. Terland and Zigiotti with two attempts off target, but both should’ve done better.
 
Can’t believe it’s still only 1-0. This really is a poor Liverpool team. They’re lucky there might not be any relegation from the WSL this season.
 
Terland looks like she has had a few pints yesterday :cool: she is not sharp in the final third at all
 
We finally get the second we deserve! Terland doing what she does best, winning the ball high up and from there it was easy to find Toone for the finish.
