Hope to see some of the younger players getting game time, then. It’s easy to forget how the United women’s rise from the ashes happened on a large part from the foundation of the MU Foundation’s youth football. Players who had been there and came back to the club or who came directly from the youth ranks when we started up in second division.

It’s right and apt that we already a few years later have reinforced with experienced players from othrr clubs, but this is an opportunity to keep that path from the youth set up to the first tram open.

With City beating Everton 5-1 we need to win all games to win the group. Solskjaer getting her debut?

No worries

Starting line up. Good to see Ladd, Boe Risa and Fuso all start. Baggaley with her debut too. Also, I think this is the first time Jones is in the starting XI.

Nice to see Jones and Fuso getting starts. I'm not surprised to see Mannion/Thorisdottir starting - not just because we don't have many centre backs right now, but because they really do need to build a partnership back there

Seriously? What the hell is wrong with this ref? Our players are getting pushed around and tackled hard without a call but one Durham player goes down they get the call? HELL NAW!!!

United go in, one goal up at ht. Another in other long line of tight, tough games against Durham.

We're not playing badly, but we aren't playing decisively. Whether Durham can keep their performance and energy levels up as the game goes on is one question. Whether we can start playing with a bit more quality in the final this is another.

Who knows, the ref might find her whistle in the secondhalf as well :smirk:

That was inevitable really - the one foul the ref spots and it's in Durham's favour. Russo in particular gets kicked/pushed/pulled every time she touches the ball.

Bagalley saves their third but Durham get a retake, seemingly for the ref not being ready? Durham score the retake.

They miss their fourth kick though and Russo makes it 5 out of 5 for us. It's our shootout.

5-3 win on penalties. Durham were lucky to get their saved penalty re-taken, but it didn't matter in the end. I'm pretty sure we pick up 2 points for the penalty win, even though the commentators keep saying 3?

Again though, it's another game we've failed to control from a winning position. Overall, the second half was poor and we just let Durham push us around. They had a lot more set-pieces to attack from and got both their goals from set pieces.

We knew we have to beat City to get to the next round, so this makes little difference. OK, we might have screwed our chance getting through as the only 2nd group placed team though, thats very possible. Do or die against City! The only defense is it was an artificial pitch. I know that as my team Hammarby plays on such surface, it gives even the best away teams problems.
