Three group matches this time:
United (H) v Liverpool
United (A) v Everton on the 22 Nov
United (H) v Newcastle on 11 Dec

There are 5 groups this year. Top placed team in each group goes through to the QF draw after Christmas. The teams playing in Europe qualify directly for the QF.

So it's all very straightforward really. Beat both sets of scousers and the geordies and we're sorted. Ok, one game at a time and all that...

Liverpool have started the season with 1-1 draws against Leicester and West Ham. They beat us to fourth place in WSL last year though, so we've got a job to do and they won't be pushovers.

I'll be there at Leigh tomorrow. Bring it, after the FA Cup last year I'm well up for going for another cup if the top 3 is (as we expect) out of our reach. Win tomorrow and we should see ourselves in the knockouts for sure (emphasis on the word 'should' !!)

The M62 rivalry is picking up steam now Liverpool finished ahead of us last season. We need to shake them up again. I put my faith in you on the sidelines!

Match is live on MUTV in the UK. Not sure about the rest of the world.

Are these matches on YouTube?
The only WSL cup match I've seen mentioned for the free YouTube channel is Charlton v Spurs.

I don't think it was visible on the MUTV schedule until yesterday though.

Is this...rotation I see? Incredible!

It's a good team, delighted to see George back starting, Malard too. Awujo has looked promising in her cameos so far so will be interesting to see how she handles things from the start. No doubt the Scousers will be fired up for this.

Only question, is it Mannion or Le Tissier at right back? Hoping for the latter.

Refreshing to see a few changes. Very unlike Skinner. Looking forward to seeing both Awujo and Bizet

I've got an unusually stuttery MUTV tonight. Anyone else having problems?

Malard from a corner, scored through a forest of legs.

Bizet could have got a beautiful goal there. Lovely buildup

Okay whatever the season will be in terms of success, credit where (some) credit is due.

I never saw Skinner changing the shape and coming up with something new. Especially with no new coaches in the group or anything like that.

We’ve looked so clueless so many times, especially last season, you’d think they would’ve tried something else. Right now it at least looks like there’s some thought process behind how we play. We’ll see how it all works against the top teams.

Yes, it's good to see some rotation and experimentation. In terms of performances we're still a mix of good and bad though. I won't say we looked clueless against Everton for example, but the word aimless comes to mind - particularly in the second half. Maybe the "it was the wind" explanation was fair.

As you say the test will be against the big three or when a well drilled team score first against us.

Great to see us with a more or less fully fit squad though.

And as I type that, Malard good down with what looked worryingly like a pulled hamstring.

Yeah, even tonight after the bright start it’s not been great. Just saying that it was obvious for all of us last season that some things had to change. It didn’t come in the form of a new gaffer, but at least Skinner has tried to do something in the pre-season. Sometimes it’s very difficult for managers to change and evolve, so credit to him for that.

Fecking annoying listening to some of the fans near the microphones. They sound like they don’t really understand the game that well.

United not nearly so dominant now. Hinata hit the post but not a lot happening in front of goal.

See how we do this free kick

And Rachel Williams scores. Good work from Hinata to set her up.

Hayley Ladd knocks the ref over.
Not deliberately though.

FT 2-0 to United

Solid start to the Cup for us. Not a great performance from us but always better than Liverpool.

Hinata Miyazawa looked good - definitely a strong option for tight match where we need someone to create chances.

Good first half from United and then did more than enough in the second half.
Three wins, three clean sheets.

Got pretty much everything we could have asked for really - two goals, solid at the back, good rotation, clean sheet, comedy gold (ref falling over), Liverpool boss getting told off and booked by the ref. The only concern is the injury to Malard - hopefully nothing too serious.

Who were our best players?

See that some rated Malard and Miyazawa.

Malard looked really up for it before the injury. Miyazawa was PotM for me, she was everywhere.

Simi looked assured in the middle of the park too.

I continue to be impressed with Phallon - seemingly unflappable with the ball at her feet.
