Fbref has a billion WSL stats using data provided by Statsbomb. https://fbref.com/en/comps/189/Womens-Super-League-Stats
A few that stand out:
- Ella Toone has taken more shots (56) than anyone else in the WSL. Only Miedema (50) is within touching distance. On a shots per 90 mins basis, Ella drops to 3rd. Shots on target Ella is 2nd. Shots on target per 90 mins 4th. Total goals scored Ella is joint 6th. Goals + assists Ella joint 6th. On Expected goals Ella is 4th. Non-penalty xG still 4th. On Expected goals per 90 mins 9th. And there was I thinking Ella took far too many random shots from long distance and acute angles, rarely getting enough power on her shots to trouble the keeper even if she had got the shot on target.
- Mary Earps currently has the 2nd highest shot save percentage. She's 3rd for Post Shot Expected Goals minus Goals Conceded. Despite taking 4 crosses in the Everton match, she's only managed 5 in total this season, placing her 10th and she's also 10th for Sweeper Keeper actions per 90 mins.
- United's matches against Chelsea look very one-sided from an Expected Goals perspective. Chelsea found it as easy to create chances against United as they do in most WSL games.
- United (18.69) have taken slightly fewer shots per 90 mins than Chelsea (19.17) and Man City (19.75) and the average distance is also further away from goal. Arsenal (15.91) have taken fewer shots per game but on average, closer to goal than other teams and their percentage of shots on target is also the best in the WSL.
- Leah Galton is currently 4th for Expected assists but doesn't feature in the top 10 on a per 90 mins basis, while both Tobin Heath and Katie Zelem do. Leah is 2nd for Key Passes, Tobin 3rd, Katie 8th. Leah is 2nd for crosses behind Chloe Kelly of Man City. Leah is joint 6th for Goals, 9th for Goals + Assists, though she doesn't make either top 10 list on a per 90 mins basis.
- Hayley Ladd is 4th for tackles won, Jackie Groenen is 5th, Ona Batlle 7th. Ona is 5th for total tackles. Amy Turner's fiancee appears to be the hardest working player in the WSL, given she's top or in 2nd place for tackles, interceptions, pressures. Ella Toone and Jackie Groenen both make the top 10 list for Pressures.
- Millie Turner 1st for Clearances, Amy Turner 4th. Millie also top for Aerials Won, Amy is 2nd. Both feature in the top 10 for percentage of aerials won, Amy is 4th, Millie 10th.
- Kirsty Hanson is an interesting player. Her non-penalty goals + assists per 90 mins stats (0.64) are similar to those of our top scorers Galton (0.64) and Toone (0.68). 9 out of her 16 shots have been on target (56.3%). Her weakness is 51.9% pass completion (lowest United player), while she has the same percentage for successful dribbles. I find her confusing. Still only 22 so perhaps she will tighten up aspects of her game.
- Casey Stoney's approach is quite clearly different to that adopted by Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal, who are all high possession teams. United have had 5 matches with possession in the 40s, another 5 games between 50% and 53%. Only 3 matches above 60%. Our pass completion is 75.5%, while they range from 80.8% (Chelsea) to 84.8% (Man City). We've been caught offside 44 times, while they range from 26 to 21.
- Alessia Russo hasn't had many mins and hasn't played against any of the elite teams but her per 90 mins stats look similar to those of Sam Kerr and Vivianne Miedema. 4.5 shots per 90 (Kerr 4.56, Miedema 5.04), 57% shots on target, 1.27 non-penalty expected goals + assists per 90 mins (Kerr 1.36, Miedema 1.12). It will be interesting to see if she can sustain those numbers when she returns and if she can impact big games.
(Clearly a player needs to have played a lot of mins to feature in most of the top 10 lists)
