For me I rank the xmen movies

X2
First class and days of future past
Logan
X1
Dark phoenix
The last stand
The wolverine
Apocalypse
Wolverine origins

Only x2, First class, days of future past and logan are great imo, but i consider all the movies enjoyable to varying degrees.

I would like xavier to be heavily involved in the film in mcu like mcavoys was and not used like dumbledore which stewarts was imo. Dumbledore is the best comparison I can think of that stewarts xavier was used like. Perhaps that is how he is in the comics.

Hmm maybe I under rate Dark Phoenix. That would go near the bottom for me, definitely below Apocalypse. But I only saw it once so memory is fuzzy. I did like Wolverine in Japan. That’s The Wolverine right?

I think I rate dark phoenix a lot higher than most heh. I can't remember the wolverine much but I think so.
 
Something I realised the other day i found funny. They got the same writer from last stand to write and direct dark phoenix. fecked it up the first and thought nah let's give it another go.
 
The most basic issue the Foxmen series all had was they sacrificed character development for most of the Xmen to elevate only a few characters. Wolverine, Magneto, Xavier, and Mystique got lots of characterization and Mystique imo got way way too much. It dragged down the films trying to make her a Xmen leader when she has never been one in the comics.

She got more leader development than Cyclops or Storm which was silly.

They can and need to fix all that with the new cast. Cyclops needs a lot of leadership development in the MCU. Since we have Rogue again in the new cast they need to correct the mistakes from FOXMen and go more comic accurate Rogue this time. Have her take Carol Danvers powers permanently again to get the more recognizable Rogue.

Not having Wolverine front and center so far is a good thing give everyone else character development before he sucks up all the screentime.

Was it Last Stand or Dark Phoenix wherethey killed Xavier and Cyclops? That one was terrible and they just ignored the plotline thereafter.

The last stand. For me dark phoenix is an 8 out 10 movie and last stand is a 7. I find all the xmen movies enjoyable to varying degrees. They are better than spiderman 3 imo which was very disappointing I felt.
 
The ones I've actually seen of the new cast I'm not impressed by. Hopefully they turn it on more than the F4 cast which I was equally unimpressed by

Those ratings are wild. Spider-Man 3 which also wasn’t great is streets ahead of them both.
 
Yeah I had last stand as 5/10 at best.
Dark phoenix probably 5.5. felt disappointed by it.
Apocalypse I kinda enjoyed but know it was bad :lol:

Bad movie but Oscar Isaac was fun playing Apocolype. Think the issue was he was defeated so easily which was lame.

I'm exactly the same. I dont mind apocalypse at all. Issue is he was Hella nerfed and looked dumb. And I also struggle getting past Havok being Scotts older brother, even though there's nothing really with that.
 
driver would of been a great magneto, I’d say he didn’t want to commit to another franchise but Shame.

I thought apocalypse and dark phoenix were awful. But in fairness im getting older and grumpier and the older ones bring a lot of nostalgia as I grew up with them. Actually have a soft spot for x men 3 but accept the flaws.

Days of future past was great and thought wolverine gets better on rewatch and Logan was one of the best standoffs you could of given the character, kind of wish Jackman can always play the character , good luck to who ever tries to take on the role.

But ledger showed with Joker , particularly after many were dubious that it can be done. Nobody thought Nicolsons joker would be topped.

Was thinking of watching them all before Doomsday but this thread makes them all sound a bit shite :lol:
 
I would definitely recommend Logan. It's actually made by, though rather inconsistent, a decent filmmaker.
 
I was hoping Fassbender and McCavoy would come back as Prof X and Magneto. They were damn near perfect.

Should definitely watch them and form your own opinion. They hit a certain spot but would be interesting to know how much of that is nostalgia.

X2 is one of the best action opening scenes ever IMO.

There’s 4 really good movies outside the 2 you’ve watched which is probably the worst 2! Definitely watch.

Logan and days of future past S tier. X2 and first class amazing.

Then X1 and The Wolverine pretty good.

Apocalypse mid.

The rest for me is poor. Wolverine origins had a well casted Sabertooth. Butchered deadpool though but at least that was redeemed.

From the few xmen comics I have actually read, storm, cyclops, nightcrawler and phoenix seem like much better characters in the comics. I agree they focused on xavier and magneto, among others too much but that is probably why I like the movies as those are my favourite characters. I prefer mcavoy and fassbender as I think there is more energy and drive to their performances and they seem to feature more.

For me, Charles helping magneto with his powers, magneto killing shaw, xaviers speech to his younger self, magneto talking to Charles on the plane, Charles speech to mystique to stop her killing, Charles and magneto at the cafe and especially magneto speech to the world before he planned to kill the president are the best moments in the movies imo.

It would be nice if they did as good a job with all the characters in the mcu, though I would take just a good or great xavier and magneto again.

Everyone bitches only Wolverine origins, but I thought it was (nearly) the best X-Men film made when it came out ... Except for Deadpool and the last half of the movie.

But it's almost good. The first half and especially the opening act were really good!

Yeah, absolutey mental decision to even try the story again, let alone to hand it to the same person. Not sure he'd even directed before.

I enjoyed Isaac. Thought the villain was gonna be good (actually remember enjoying it at the time) but it was not that good in hindsight.

Just binged the original trilogy now. Not bad at all! Id say X2 was the better of the trio but I loved Magneto in the last stand the most.

Im going to skip the wolverine movies until logan and go onto the prequels instead

Inde Navarette might be my favorite of the new castings. She s hard not to like, an absolute nerd who happened to become famous and did fantastic job in Obsession clearly.
