Xabi Alonso | Chelsea manager

As I said in the other thread, I can’t wait for all the videos of them burning their Alonso 14 shirts.

Carrrnt buhleeve it liech la!

Fantastic news. It’s a shame we can’t access the RAWK to see the scouse meltdown

Will either be a great appointment or a disaster depending on how much control BlueCo gives him. If they continue with their current transfer policy it's going to be a disaster.

Next season is shaping up nicely with United and Chelsea getting their sh*t together, Pep might give City 1 more season with his new squad finalised. Liverpool the only one looking a shambles now.

Didn’t see this coming. Thought he’d be nailed on for Liverpool. Surprised he didn’t wait to see what they do with slot.

Brendan Rodgers was once asked about taking the Chelsea job. He answered something along the lines of wanting to build his career, not ruin it. Think he could well have done with some Brendo wisdom here. But we'll see. It's extremely surprising

That's a crazy fumble from Liverpool. Should make next season pretty funny

Can't lie, I misread that as bumming for a second!
Wondered how we'll you'd need to do to bum a shirt!

appreciate the “sack watch” in the title before he’s appointed

I couldn't give a feck that he's managing Chelsea, I just love that it'll piss off the scousers and compound their misery

Will like to see how he does in the PL. I have a feeling Chelsea will need another rebuild. Some of the current players aren't good enough.

Chelsea might be suited to a back 3 with Cucurella and Gutso playing as WBs and Caicedo + Fernandes as the holding mids with Joao and Palmer as the 10s, he'll need a new top striker and couple of good cbs

We will regret this so much. This is absolutely awful news.

This can go either way for him, but Chelsea should be patient with him, as i think he could do great there. But they are trigger happy, so he needs to do well quick enough.

I'll give it until January before Hiddink returns.

That’s like one of those weird feelings of football, where he would just magic out of nowhere and just take Chelsea half a season and then resume being the manager of St Kitts & Nevis national team or whatever

Think he's theoretically a good choice and I would've liked him here.

Only if they stop interferring and stop with the ridiculous transfer strategy though. No one's gonna succeed the way they've been run lately.

This tells me he would of come to United.
Never made sense that he'd turn down rival big clubs just because he played for Liverpool at some point off the heels of getting sacked

So many people claimed the opposite when we were discussing his viability for the United job.

I would've waited for the Scouser job over Chelsea though if I were him tbf

Thought he was stick on Liverpool manager next season. If he takes the Chelsea job, then it’s not impossible for him to take the Liverpool job one day.

I think he will suit Chelsea’s players well. I think Alonso’s positional football ideology won’t be hugely different to what Maresca was implementing at Chelsea before so the players will adapt quickly.

Rumour is we never made an attempt to contact Alonso. I mean he did turn us down when Klopp was going two years ago. Might be part of why the club didn’t try now.

Really curious to see what happens with us now, because Slot’s position looks untenable.

Tbf. There's a galaxy of difference between us and you guys as far as Liverpool are concerned.

I know Busby did, but contrasting eras and all that.

Gerard around October time hopefully

Having witnessed Xabi as a player and a manager - wow! Chelsea are getting a top class guy. Whatever happened at Madrid was in my opinion no fault of Xabis - entirely on Vini Jr + other rebels + Club (Perez) choosing to protect assets rather than backing the manager thus pissing away what could have been a historical season.

I haven't watched more than the odd match of Chelsea recently but the team seems young enough and filled to the brim with talent, just perhaps directionless. Also seems like they are currently out of any European football. Honestly couldn't say whether the best thing for them would be to finish 9th and have a season of no European football or try to climb a few spots and play in the Europa League. I would not be surprised at all if they managed to win the Europa League in Alonsos first season + a top 4 placing in PL but a season of solely focusing on EPL + FA Cup is not bad either in terms of build up.

And if that Mbappé situation doesn't get resolved soon I bet Chelsea is as good of a new club as any. London, play under Alonso again, EPL, big club where he'd become undisputed #1, head to head vs Haaland, usually always a great chance of going deep in UCL.

Premier league will be a bloodbath next season. I expect Spurs, Chelsea, and yes, even Liverpool, to improve substantially

Hopefully I'm wrong and they all get relegated
