Literally don't see the attraction of joining Chelsea

Gutted, you were a close second on the list behind Alonso as well.
I don't mean that in a smart way but I can't see the attraction for him personally. The club is a mess behind the scenes, a squad of players who are on long contracts and don't really care about the club like previous past players. If it goes tits up for him, he'll struggle to get a top job again as he will be deemed a complete failure If he does badly at Chelsea and what happened at Madrid (which don't believe was any of his fault anyways).
There's a lot of change that needs to happen and it's going to take time, whether he'll be giving that time is another question and the way football works these days, he more then likely won't

On the other hand, the most likely scenario is him getting sacked.

It could be partly the London thing. I mean, not everyone wants to settle in NW England, even the leafier parts.
Must have just wanted to a job again, probably looking at Chelsea as a stepping stone club.
What do you want him to do, just sit unemployed hoping for the perfect job to come up? He backs himself as a manger and will be in the PL at a big club. Yeah theyre a mess, but he will be backed. We shoudlve went for him, then he would've had a choice but neither us nor pool went in for him, it was Chelsea or sit at home
It’s Chelsea, the original plastic. They will get it right on track eventually.
Looking from the outside, I see Chelsea's squad as mesh of talent, with some being proven talent and some overhyped players. There's far too many players in that squad that are of similar ilk and managers are spoilt for choice. Alonso may harness that talent and bring everything together but it's a massive unknown, a similar situation we find ourselves in with Carrick. We just can't predict how things will turn out because these managers are unproven in the league.

Actually surprised by this, thought he would have been a great replacement for the bald fraud in Liverpool. Oh well, I get to piss of some Liverpool fans I know at least by asking them why they didn't get him.
An appointment by Chelsea that makes me stand up and applaud. For me Alonso is one of the best, most exciting managers out there (and was available) who yes, got sacked by that utter basket case of a club Madrid, did wonders at Leverkusen on a unprecedented scale. I’m actually really gutted about this one, would have loved him here no matter how unrealistic that was. Kudus to INEOS though, they were able to fool everyone in to thinking there wasn’t anyone better than Carrick available.

Carrick has been great and deserves a permanent chance but Alonso would've been my favourite if Carrick wasn't staying.

Probably, I'm not on here as often as I used to be. But the duffer I remember had more charm!

When you’ve been burned from picking up the frying pan at Real Madrid, why would you jump into the Chelsea fire?
It most likely is, to be honest. Just the other day, I almost found myself missing peterstorey when reading posts from the current Arsenal fans on here who are humourless and dull. At least Pete was entertaining!
He will have a good squad to work with, a lot of young talent will suit him. Needs some investing, but there is a good base to work with. It is a good club for him, i dont get the negative comments. If they give him some patience and trust, why not? I dont think he wanted to wait another year for a position to appear, PL was the logical next step after rhe Bundesliga and La Liga. Liverpool sticking with Slot and Guardiola at City for another year, Chelsea is the next best thing.
Chelsea have some very good players.
They also seemingly have the ability to generate money from essentially out of nowhere regularly.
Now they have a good manager who will add to their squad and pick the right players.
I would put a LOT of money on them finishing above us next season if I was a betting person.

Well, that’s it, no point even competing next season then.

Because that’s what their club does. 3 managers in the space of a year speaks volumes.

Could see Chelsea relegating us
To league 1, I think we'd skip the championship it'll be that bad.
All things told, I think carrick will do OK for us and have us 4-6 next season. We will have some stability. I just feel missing out on Xabi could be like missing out on Klopp all over again, its frustrating we didn't even try for him

But you already have a good thing going on with Carrick. I feel one of Bayerns biggest mistakes was employing Guardiola 2013. Not because he was bad, he broke a whole of records and was by all means a great coach, but due to us already having Heynckes who already was the perfect manager for the team and just won the treble (+ back to back UCL-finals).
Who knows, perhaps Bayern would have reached the final again in 2014 if Heynckes had stayed. The old man for example was able to extract the maximum from Ribéry and Schweinsteiger by being a father figure putting his arm around them, something Guardiola failed to do. Sometimes that feeling of loyalty and resolve gets you a few more percent than the perfect tactics.
He really has to get the players on board and buy into what he wants. Maresca did and for whatever reason they got rid of him, looking at them under Rosenior you see players that know they have the power to get rid of any manager.
Alonso struggled to get the players on board at Real, this Chelsea squad will be easier for him to reign in I think. He'll do a good job if they do, they'll be top 4/5, which they would have been under Maresca anyway.
You’d imagine for him to accept he will have been given more control over transfers.
They need an experienced top keeper, 2 experienced CBs and a wide player who offers goal threat.

I think thats a bit different, you had a treble winning manager, Carrick hasnt come close to winning a bean as a manager. We had a decent thing with Ole, but say we had a choice between Ole when he got made permanent or Klopp you would take klopp any day of the week.
