Did they say when that new handheld was gonna come out? Because they mentioned Silksong would be available from day one.
Holiday 2025. Assuming the game will come out before then as it will be playable at a museum in Australia in September

I've been playing GTA5 for ages now and still not finished it. I need to stop so I can play other games on Game pass (Doom, MW2)

BREAKING: As part of today's cuts, Xbox has canceled the troubled Rare game Everwild, according to people familiar. News on the job cuts is coming in drips — not sure why Xbox didn't announce it all at once — but I'll report what I can as I confirm it.

Phil Spencer's message to staff

An email sent to all Microsoft Gaming employees from CEO Phil Spencer was passed to Windows Central by an anonymous source. You can read the email below:

Today we are sharing decisions that will impact colleagues across our organization. To position Gaming for enduring success and allow us to focus on strategic growth areas, we will end or decrease work in certain areas of the business and follow Microsoft’s lead in removing layers of management to increase agility and effectiveness. Out of respect for those impacted today, the specifics of today’s notifications and any organizational shifts will be shared by your team leaders in the coming days.
I recognize that these changes come at a time when we have more players, games, and gaming hours than ever before. Our platform, hardware, and game roadmap have never looked stronger. The success we're seeing currently is based on tough decisions we've made previously. We must make choices now for continued success in future years and a key part of that strategy is the discipline to prioritize the strongest opportunities. We will protect what is thriving and concentrate effort on areas with the greatest potential, while delivering on the expectations the company has for our business. This focused approach means we can deliver exceptional games and experiences for players for generations to come.

Prioritizing our opportunities is essential, but that does not lessen the significance of this moment. Simply put, we would not be where we are today without the time, energy, and creativity of those whose roles are impacted. These decisions are not a reflection of the talent, creativity, and dedication of the people involved. Our momentum is not accidental—it is the result of years of dedicated effort from our teams.

HR is working directly with impacted employees to provide severance plan benefits (aligned with local laws), including pay, healthcare coverage, and job placement resources to support their transition. Employees whose roles were eliminated are encouraged to explore open positions across Microsoft Gaming, where their applications will be given priority review.

Thank you to everyone who has shaped our culture, our products, and our community. We will move forward with deep appreciation and respect for all who have contributed to this journey.

The reason for not announcing all the cuts yet is to allow the people being let go to hear first.

I hate when companies who are drowning in money get rid of employees, not to make a profit, but to increase the obscene amount of profit it is already making.

Edit: I only posted part of the Email originally.

That bit in particular is such bs, as if the people being cut would be happy to read that. It reads as "we know this email is going to get out so here's a paragraph to let the fans know we're still investing in the Xbox platform and hardware despite the cuts"

Someone gave that Email to Windows Central. Was it a PR leak?

The humble brag about how popular they are in a email telling people they're fired is... really something. Even in that email it feels like its aimed at shareholders and not employees which is extra sickening.

Big rumours Perfect Dark is alone canned but that one is still being confirmed.

@Alock1

Good riddance. Destroyed all the good work they did in the 360 era. Lots of promises and never delivered.

Xbox's wholesale rejection of everything that made the 360 successful is truly mind-boggling.
Except modern Microsoft and their shareholders don’t care about hardware sales. It’s all about SaaS now with these big companies. Subscriber numbers and people attached to your ecosystem. They’re making Gamepass as attractive to people as possible at the expense of everything else.

Sure, and I get that MS have decided that their ecosystem will not be tethered to proprietary hardware. Fair enough. But people are buying their content for GaaS or whatever else on storefronts, and I find it hard to imagine that Xbox are going to be successful in getting the Xbox Store on competitors hardware.

IMO right now Xbox has a software lineup capable of selling hardware, and they have a good piece of hardware available (although a Pro version would probably be smart, if they cared about any of this)...that seems like a great foundation from which to build an ecosystem.

Given that GamePass hasn't seen any significant growth in years, I'm skeptical that tripling down on it after various price increases and service reductions is going to work. Maybe I'll be wrong.

Cancelling Perfect Dark is wild. Just a year ago that gameplay trailer was such a big part of their summer showcase, even if I was skeptical about how representative it was. To just outright cancel it a year later is pretty shocking.

Doesn't sound so rosey. Maybe this will be the news that finally converts the caf to the PlayStation

They gone too deep into the game pass thing with first party that they can’t go back hence why they putting games on PS, so people actually buy them. Horizon 5 sold like nearly 3m copies on PS5, so that’s a lot of money on the table for them.

The Activision takeover effectively killed Xbox. It’s Microsoft Gaming now. You can’t just put something like Call of Duty on gamepass and not recoup the costs elsewhere. The amount of sales they missing out on probably doesn’t cover it being on gamepass, so probably one of the reasons they started putting all the other stuff on PS5.

Spencer has managed to ruin the three major franchises too. Gears was supposed to be another trilogy, but now they went running back to Marcus and Dom. Nobody knows what’s happening with Halo, and Bonnie Ross should have been fired a long time ago. Turn 10 have lost 50 percent of their staff now and are basically a support studio for the Horizon series, so Forza is dead.

Such a sad shame as competition is good. 360 was a great console, but that was one of the rare things outside of windows that was a success for MS. Everything else outside of windows tends to flop. Just look at how much they paid for Nokia.

Shitty news

I told you all this was coming and everybody ignored me
