Yan Diomande | signs for Madrid 120m

He wasn’t signed on a free. He was purchased for €20m off the back of some outstanding La Liga performances and ridiculous data he put up playing for a relegation side.

He’s moved countries, clubs and up in terms of expectations and he’s already RB Leipzig’s best attacker. At 18 (now 19) he has reduced Nusa and Bakayoko to being 2nd and 3rd fiddle to him.

There are no guarantees in football, but his physical ability , technical ability and footballing brain are showing incredible signs and I’ve not seen a player this good this young since Yamal (not saying he’s as good but he’s not a million miles off it).
He signed for leganes on a free after having at trial at Rangers (that's mental if they didn't think he was of the level for Scottish football). So he must have been offered around to a fair few clubs. Leganes had the foresight to give him a shot.

All for a new young exciting left winger, but not at a price that would stop us addressing the 2 x elite CMs we need in the summer.

Diomande is a different level to anything I’ve seen Dorgu do at any level in his development so far.

I really strongly believe a lot of you are sleeping here on a potentially world class talent who is already shown world class carrying and dribbling threat in both La Liga and Bundesliga now having only just turned 19.
Im fine with him, I'd be excited to be honest. For me I'd just be surprised if we bid.

Transfermrkt has his value at £30mil. So I presume there is alot of hype and hyperbole and Leipzig are trying to take advantage of the 'rich PL clubs'.

Anyone who uses transfermarkt as some kind of genuine proxy for what a player is actually worth is clearly clueless and does not have an opinion worth taking seriously.

The values on that site are consistently senseless, inaccurate, and not grounded in current reality.

Go on then genius, find me another site with transfer valuations for players.

You said Leipzig signed him on a free.

Just because transfermarkt is the only site which attempts to give players valuations, doesn't mean those valuations aren't typically crap and proven time and time again to be inaccurate regarding what players actually end up moving for.

The only thing transfermarkt is useful for in that regard is checking how much players moved for in the past, but it is poor at predicting what players are currently worth and will sell for in the future.

You buy him to take advantage of him entering his peak.

Wingers dribble significantly less after around the age of 22.

So if you want an elite ball carrier, dribbler, and hard worker who is ambipedal and has shown he has “la pausa” then you sign Diomande.
Calling him a bargain was a mistake, no?

He looks good yes, but so did many others coming out of Germany who struggled in the PL

And that’s closer to his proper value at this point. 60m is the price point to start talking about players who have proven they’re hot in the PL
It used to be. Now that’s just what players like this cost. 60 million wouldn’t get him right now. I don’t think Leipzig would even consider selling him for anything below 80 million.

And you could say the same st those willing to pay 60m - 100m at this point

The valuations are just made up by the users on the site. They have no connection to reality at all.

Going further away from what we can classify as a “bargain”

At £60m I do not believe you could buy the closest U21 winger potential wise to Lamine Yamal anywhere else.

He really could be an absolute worldie of a player so I stand by my comment and will allow anyone who wishes to judge it harshly to review their opinion of it in:

1 year
2 years
3 years

And tell me that a then 21/22 year old Yan Diomande isn’t one of the best wingers in the world.

There is literally no player of his age putting up consistent performances of his level not called Lamine Yamal.

Thats where this valuation comes from.

Problem his performances are in bundaliga, which is so hit and miss for players moving to PL. There's so much time and space for players there, that alot of them struggle especially the attackers in the PL.

There are less flops from ligue 1 to PL.

My comment was related to buying him now at £60m I do believe that is a cheap price for the talent here given historic players his profile is exceeding.

La Liga too though. Around 40% of his data is from La Liga for a relegation side that he instantly became the best player in.

He isn’t afforded space to operate and still comes out with the ball past his man or having played a key pass or a sensible “La pausa” style one.

With respect, I believe I’ve probably watched the most matches of him as I’ve been following him and watching every game of his since arriving at CD Leganes including watching him at AFCON.

I’m telling you he is him.

I'll take your word for it and see where he ends up if he leaves Leipzig in this window. Honestly would love Utd to luck into getting the next Cristiano or Salah (eventually) level winger.

Right now he's 19 and very raw, his career could go many ways

I don’t think he’ll move this window. Any agent worth their salt will strongly advise him against a move and Leipzig will want to maximise their profit.

With AFCON and a team that adores him and is giving him a great platform to develop he is better off showing it over the season justifying his price tag further. Bear in mind he’s been equally effective as a LW and RW he’s such a unique profile.

I think he moves in the summer and wouldn’t be surprised if he has the following clubs in for him:

  • Barcelona
  • Bayern Munich
  • Manchester United
  • Arsenal
  • PSG
  • Real Madrid
  • Liverpool
And just to further re-iterate why I feel how I do separate to my own view:

Avoiding the point. 60m+ is not a “bargain”

Avoiding the point. 60m+ is not a “bargain”
If United buy Yan Diomande for £60m this window it’s absolutely a bargain.

He’s a potential £100m+ player by 21.

I’d happily spend £40m less than that now and get him in his earlier development, ergo in my eyes at that fee bargain.

Btw im not debating his qualities , just the usage of the word “bargain”
Fair, but then I suppose that completely depends on how you value his profile.

I believe we’re looking at a £100m+ winger (pounds not euros) if we leave him for too long.

I do see what you mean though £60m is a lot of money to spend on a normal player. I just don’t think he’s normal.

If you buy something for 60 million and it is later worth above a hundred, it was obviously a bargain.

Wether Diomande is that kind of asset remains to be seen, of course.

Are we actually linked outside of a general appreciation? I don't buy it. Il need to watch the guy, but he's hyped to a level thats exciting. I remember Dorgu being hyped initially a lot too though.
Diomande and Dorgu are completely different brackets of hype at this point. Diomande hype is hitting next Vini / Mbappe levels.

A summer of Diomande, Jacquet, Anderson and Wharton/Baleba would be magic.

We know we're getting about £40m for Hojlund, hopefully the £25m for Rashford plus selling Zirkzee, its do-able.

I don’t believe Jacquet would be a good signing for us nor do I feel he’d want to come to us.

Anderson
Diomande
Baleba

Anything else is such a bonus.

I saw when he came off the bench against Gabon, he still managed to complete the most dribbles of anyone in the match and won all his duels (he came on the 82 min). He does seem one hell of a prospect, I was happy with Semenyo for £65m, I'd be happy to spend the same on him, his potential seems enormous.

65 would be a fair fee, but unsure if Leipzig would respect that, especially in winter.

I think that's around Uniteds valuation too.

That's around 75m euros, so probably wouldn't be too far off mind you, but you're probably right.

And that's why it's not going to happen. Noone will buy Diomande for 60m pounds this window because he is not available at that price in January.
Basically he's not availabe at all, unless some clubs would come to pay so much that RB just say 'ok then, if you insist'. Which isn't happening. I don't even know why this thread is open without any credible news or links, which there won't be as it's not happening.

To discuss performance or value, we should probably do that in the football forum.

We can discuss hypotheticals. I didn’t say it would or could happen merely that it would be a bargain.

Value and performances linked to a transfer fee of a player we are linked to are valid discussion points here. Feel free to start or add to any thread you like.
